1 | Translation of the name Esther? | Esth 1:1 | mkap | 145899 | ||
Esther is a Persian word and is translated to "star" in Strong's and Smith Bible Dictionaries. In Hitchcock's, however, it is translated "hidden". Obviously there is a huge difference. Which definition is accurate? Her Hebrew name is Hadassah, which means "myrtle". Thank you. MKaplan |

Esther was the new, and probably Persian, name given on her introduction to the royal harem. Her proper Heb. name was Hadassah, “Myrtle”.
