Dear walkforchrist, I sure empathize your situation and pray that you gain strength from our gracious Lord day by day when you put your focus on Him and His Word. Your question reminds me of a citation from our Brother Doc in post 203695 which reads below: "I do not know of a single scripture -- and I speak advisedly -- which tells me to take my sin, the particular thing that gets me down, to God in prayer and ask Him to deliver me from it and then trust in faith that He will. Now that teaching is also often put like this: you must say to a man who is constantly defeated by a particular sin, 'I think your only hope is to take it to Christ and Christ will take it from you.' But what does Scripture say in Ephesians 4:28 to the man who finds himself constantly guilty of stealing, to a man who sees something he likes and takes it? What am I to tel such a man? Am I to say, 'Take that sin to Christ and ask Him to deliver you?' No, what the apostle Paul tells him is this: 'Let him that stole, steal no more.' Just that. Stop doing it. And if it is fornication or adultery or lustful thoughts, again: Stop doing it, says Paul. He does not say, 'Go and pray to Christ to deliver you.' No. You stop doing that, he says, as becomes children of God." --Martyn Lloyd-Jones Please read Roman chapter 5 and 6. Shalom Azure |

Walk for Christ, Welcome to the forum! How do you stop your bad habits. Start by reading Romans 7, Paul had the same problem. The things I want to do, I do not. The things I don't want to do, I am doing. Then move on to Romans, Chapter 8 which gives us the victory. God made them male and female. Once God made a man, he did not declare things good, but made woman and then said, it was "very good." Scripture expects a man to have a wife and to express his God given sex drive inside marriage. We have three spiritual enemies. The world, the flesh and the devil. We are to be in the world but not of the world. If your car works well and gets you to work, why get a fancy new car? This is the world. The Devil influences us to be lazy, lie and kill (John 8:44) among other temptations. But for many men the problem is the flesh. Wine, women, song, smoking, and drinking/drugs, we are to consider ourselves dead to sin. Gal 2:20. I personally have found 1. cold showers, 2. exercise does wonders to change the mind and clean it up. 3. Read my Bible and 4. pray. Prayer and Bible reading don't work so well when I am in the middle of temptation, 5. do something else like walk/run until I am exhausted when tempted works the best for me. |

Dear Don, I think your response to Walkforchrist has been wrongly directed to me. In order to secure your intended reader's (i.e. walkforchrist) getting your post, perhaps you may repost your reply to him/her again since the user is a new registrant to SBF and I am not sure he/she will read your reply displayed on the main page.
