1 | Son of Man/ Son of God - Who? | Luke | maestrowhit | 210448
When Jesus refers to the Son of Man in various places throughout scripture, is He indeed referring to Himself? I know that is the common consensus, but I fail to see where He is unquestionably referring to Himself. He uses the term Son of Man in the third person, so He could be referring to someone else, or even a symbolic figure. Why does He use SOn of Man, and not Son of God? People call Him the Son of God, but I don't know of a place in scripture where He calls Himself that. Could someone help?
2 | Son of Man/ Son of God - Who? | Luke | Makarios | 210449
Greetings Maestrowhit, The Gospel of Luke mentions the phrase "Son of Man" at least 25 times as part of Luke's presentation of the humanity of Jesus. This does not mean that Luke did not present Christ as fully God (see Luke 1:35), but Luke's distinctive approach to the Gospel was to show a great interest in individuals (see 10:29-37) and, specifically, women (chapters 1-2). Luke is a gospel of the compassionate Son of Man offering salvation to the whole world (19:10). But Luke was not the only one who used the phrase "Son of Man": see Matt. 8:20, 9:6, 10:23, 11:19, 12:8,32,40, 13:37,41, 16:13,27,28, 17:9,12,22, 19:28, 20:18,28, 24:27,30,37,39,44, 26:2. In each case above in the book of Matthew, Jesus is speaking about Himself. Blessings to you, Makarios |
