1 | Did God cause the tsunami | Mark | Praise Be To God | 141391 | ||
How can you say that God did not cause the tsunami? We don't know the mind of God. Many hundreds and perhaps even thousands of Christians have been martyred in those countries which have been hit by the tsunami. In fact, the aid which goes there is given to the Hindu first and the Christians get what's left over -- if there is anything left over to get. A missionary friend of mine is going to India on the 12th of January and she is taking money to the Christians over there. She says, "We must take care of our own." I know this is a different perspective than you are used to hearing on the news programs, but they do not even bring God into the equation. This is just a little food for thought. Janae. |

Thank you all for your answers. I know that God has not changed and He is the same as He has always been. Also He is in control. Could He have avoided that disaster? There is no doubt in my mind that He could. Is He directing every aspect of our lives and is He controlling every natural occurrence? It strikes me thou that this disaster has struck the hardest on places of long standing conflict and in the province of Aceh where bloody persecution of Christians went on for many years. According to news reports “Christian” gangs defended themselves by arming themselves. They and fought street battles with guns. In the last 2 years the Indonesian army “pacified “ the province and allowed no foreigners in. We don’t know what happened. I thank God I live in a country of plenty and in peace. I have not earned this privilege but I accept it humbly. I think it is wonderful how people and governments pool together in aid for the victims of the tsunami. Let us now not forget all the other victims of war and persecution and natural disasters all around this globe. felgerdon |

I've read (admittedly quickly) most of the threads to this question, and was really surprised at and interested in the answers. I've never believed that it's up to us here on earth to decide whether an action (natural or by people) is good or evil, or to question what happens in our lives. God alone does and keeps the account. God (always in control) allowed misfortune (the Bible doesn't say He caused it....) to fall upon Job, even though "this man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil" (Job 1:1). Job 38 and 39 are God's response to the question, "How could this happen?" |

Greetings Cherylg! Excellent point! I notice too that every attempt to explain Job's suffering was wrong, including Job's! ;-) What makes us think that we will be any more sucessful than they? ;-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
