Hi, Cheryl... I'm sure you are. I've been known to get mixed up. Not long ago I got illumination and inspiration mixed up! How I managed that still mystifies me. I was fortunate that my professor recognized the error early on in the paper, and adjusted accordingly. I have a hard enough time keeping up with all the students a generation or more younger than I am! Anyway, the moral of the story is that you'll be helping us all out if you ask for clarification. Speaking of words, Doc, I do believe the term anthropopathism would actually fit 'grieving the Holy Spirit' better than the term anthropomorphism. I'd best get my isms sorted out. :) | ||||||

Hi, Cheryl... Yes, that would, indeed, be a more precise word in this particular context. It has been a long time since I've seen it used! Thank you for pointing it out. In some ways we understand God in human terms. Not because that is really who He is... but because He uses such language of Himself. Yet He clearly warns us not to fall into the other side of the ditch in making too much of such comparisons. I've pointed it out on the forum before, but I think it is so a propos: John Calvin asserted that God speaks to man in baby-talk. :-) In Him, Doc |
