The promises to Abraham and to his Seed, that is, Christ. Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, "And to seeds," as referring to many, but rather to one, "And to your seed," that is, Christ. (NASB) Galatians 3:16 Galatians 3 [14] To the end that through [their receiving] Christ Jesus, the blessing [promised] to Abraham might come upon the Gentiles, so that we through faith might [all] receive [the realization of] the promise of the [Holy] Spirit. [15] To speak in terms of human relations, brethren, [if] even a man makes a last will and testament (a merely human covenant), no one sets it aside or makes it void or adds to it when once it has been drawn up and signed (ratified, confirmed). [16] Now the promises (covenants, agreements) were decreed and made to Abraham and his Seed (his Offspring, his Heir). He [God] does not say, And to seeds (descendants, heirs), as if referring to many persons, but, And to your Seed (your Descendant, your Heir), obviously referring to one individual, Who is [none other than] Christ (the Messiah). Gen 17:6 "I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings will come forth from you. Gen 17:7 "I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you. Gen 17:8 "I will give to you and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God." It looks clear to me here, when God made the covenant with Abraham, that he is speaking of a plural of people, meaning all his descendants. Also, it may just be a matter of oppinnion but "and to your and your seed" reads plural to me. In the dictionary seed is actually listed as "Noun, Plural; seeds or seed," meaning that seed can be plural. If someone were to walk up to you and say "I give this to you and your seed..." you wouldn't ask "Well which of my kids do you mean?" It would be understood that the person meant your descendants. Earlier in Genisis 1:11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself. -- I'm sure that there wasn't just one Herb Yeilding seed in reference here. Sincerely, rkitecsure |

"The promised Deliverer will come out of Zion and the nation will be saved (Romans 11:25-29). That the Christian now inherits the distinctive Jewish promises is NOT taught in Scripture. The Christian is of the heavenly seed of Abraham (Genesis 15:5,6; Galatians 3:29) and partakes of the spiritual blessings of the Abrahamic Covenant." "But Israel as a nation always has it own place and is yet to have its greatest exaltation as the earthly people of God." (Emphasis added.)
