Greetings Mysticgaze, David, King of Israel, who fought the Moabites (1 Samuel 14:47) and then later sought refuge in Moab for his parents (1 Samuel 22:3-4), showed mercy on the Moabites (descendants of Lot - Gen. 19:37), sparing at least a third of them. Thus, David showed mercy on the Moabites by not wiping them out completely, and they "became servants to David, bringing tribute." Later, in 2 Kings 3:4, we see that the King of Moab payed a tribute of 100,000 lambs and the wool from 100,000 rams. "..And the LORD helped David wherever he went." (v. 6). Blessings to you, Makarios |
