1 | David's response - "law for man" ??? | 2 Sam 7:19 | kalos | 111574
"Is this your usual way of dealing with men, O Lord God? The NET Bible 2 Samuel 7:19 And you didn’t stop there, O Lord God! You have also spoken about the future of your servant’s family. Is this your usual way of dealing with men,[28] O Lord God? 28tn Heb “and this [is] the law of man.” This part of the verse is very enigmatic; no completely satisfying solution has yet been suggested. The present translation tries to make sense of the Masoretic Text by understanding the phrase as a question that underscores the uniqueness of God’s dealings with David as described here. The parallel passage in 1 Chr 17:17 reads differently. (http://www.bible.org/netbible/index.htm) "This is [indeed] a teaching for a man..." Yet in your view, Adonai ELOHIM, even this was too small a thing; so you have even said that your servant's dynasty will continue on into the distant future. This is [indeed] a teaching for a man, Adonai ELOHIM-- 2 Samuel (SH'MU'EL BET) 7:19 Complete Jewish Bible (http://bible.crosswalk.com/) KJV "manner" Strong's Number: 08452 Transliterated Word: Towrah Definition: custom, manner, mode, law (of man) King James Word Usage - Total: 1 manner 1 (http://bible.crosswalk.com/Lexicons/Hebrew/) |

2 | David's response - "law for man" ??? | 2 Sam 7:19 | Ray | 111608
Hi Kalos, The mention of the Masoretic Text and making sense of it, is a reference to 2 Samuel 7:16 where it would read "And your house and your kingdom shall endure before *you forever; your throne shall be established forever." The NASB reads, "And your house and your kingdom shall endure before *Me forever; your throne shall be established forever." I think that the passage looks forward to the spiritual kingdom to come and the coming of the spiritual King, even the Man Jesus Christ. So to my mind we can ask, "Is this the usual way of a man, O God/Man?" Compare Isaiah 9:7, NKJ, NASB From the heart, Ray |
