1 | Why did Eve orginally leave the garden? | Gen 3:1 | John Reformed | 99521
Your right Emmaus, the church is the pillar and support for the truth. The question is what is the church? The way understand it is that the church is the body of Christ with each believer a functioning member. Of course, we know that the mere profession of faith is not the determening factor in salvation. One must actually have come to believe and trust in Jesus. How do we tell the wheat from the tares? By their fruit. Once a tare is suspected he must appear before the elders for examination and if the accusations are proved true, that person will be instructed to repent and to seek God's grace to live a holy life. If he refuses or fails to meet the requirements of the church goverment...he must be excommunicated. But not all tares are discovered and (especially today) church discipline, on the whole, is very weak and has avoided this difficult but essential duty. I believe there are only two churches; a visible and invisible. The visable is composed of every member true and false. This church is the one men can see. The invisible church is composed of believers only; There are no tares in this church. Only God can see this church. I know I've gone far afield from our topic but I wanted to ask you if you agree. 2 | Why did Eve orginally leave the garden? | Gen 3:1 | Emmaus | 99522
John, Of course by definition we not agree on eccelsiology, although we may agree on some points, but I see no profit in going there. As I recall the 1 Tim 3:15 passage is traditionally translated as "pillar and foundation." Do you think it is the same Greek word translated foundation in other passages? I wonder why the translators chose "support" in this passage rather than "foundation." Perhaps it was their view of ecclesiology. Emmaus |

The answer to your Q is above my pay grade. I know James White has addressed it in his debates with RC apologists. SEE http://aomin.org/YouTell.html John |
