1 | Abram or Abraham at Ishmael's birth | Gen 22:2 | DocTrinsograce | 195174 | ||
Hi, Cheri... I don't think that you've confused the chronology. Note that God is speaking to Abraham in Genesis 22, calling him by name. Isaac was the son given by God through which the covenantal blessings would come -- the only son of promise. Ishmael was his son by his concubine, not by his wife. Isaac was the only lawful heir, the only son by Abraham's lawful wife. See also Galatians 4. (Haven't I pointed you to Galatians before? I really encourage you to study it to find doctrinal balance.) Thanks Doc, Yes, you did and I did read it, several times. And my congregation has begun an in-depth study of the book last week, but we've only done the introduction/foundation so far, chapter 1 next week!! I'm so excited about it. I did understand about the "son of promise" but also wondered about the timing of the name change and if that had anything to do with the statement. So thank you for clearing that up for me. :-) Cheri |
