Hi, Priscellia As you can see you will get many very good answers to your question. The only thing that I might add is to be sure to get a version of the Bible that you are comfortable reading. The King James version has the beautiful old English which because it is difficult to understand may discourage the new reader. I enjoy the New King James Version which just uses more contemporary language. I also like the New American Standard Bible very much because it is said to be the most literally accurate translation. I believe it is good advise to begin one’s reading at the Gospel of John. He brings out the heart of Jesus best and will speak to the readers heart. Then I would go to Romans. The apostle Paul took great pains to describe the fundamentals of salvation through faith to the people of Rome and it was the book that most influenced John Wesley and Martin Luther. I believe it is also a good idea to finish the New Testament, maybe even a couple of times before going into the Old Testament. Without a fairly good understanding of the New Testament and the wonderful salvation that has come through Jesus the Old Testament (with the exception of Psalms, Proverbs and Geneses) would be very difficult to understand. Also you will want to use commentaries and a concordance. There are many helpful resources on the internet including this website and I also use www.blueletterbible.org all the time.
