801 | Is Beelzebul or Baalzebub Satan? | Matt 12:27 | prayon | 5616
Beelzebub was a god worshipped by the Ekronites. The original form and meaning is unclear. Originally it may of meant "lord of the lofty abode" and then because this god was considered by the Hebrews to be a unworthy rival to Yawweh, it may of been revised to "lord of the flies" (Baalzebub). Later it was altered even further to Beelzebul which means "lord of the dung". In the intertestamental period numerous names were used to designate the leaders of the forces of evil one of the names selected was Beel-zebul. In the New Testament Beelzebul is believed to be the chief of the demons (Satan). Beelzebul is also a name that the scribes derisively applied to Jesus upon His healing of a demon-possessed person. Jesus made clear that His actions were intended for the kingdom of God and were performed in opposition to the kingdom of Satan, (Matt. 12:24-27; Mark 3:22-26; Luke 11:15-19. This may be where the name Beelzebul became associated with Satan as it was never identified in the Old Testament with the devil or Satan. (Harpers Bible Dictionary and Eerdmans Bible Dictionary.) |

802 | Please I need some ideas | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 5615
Ed, In the Everyday Bible Commentary by Charles Caldwell Ryrie it states that John saw 4 groups of saints in Revelation 20:4. First he saw those who sat on the throne and who shared in the judging, apparently the church. Then he saw a particular group of martyrs - those who were beheaded. Finally he saw a group that had refused to worship the beast and receive his mark. Those (referring to the last group) are the ones who will live and reign with Christ. In answer to your comment of the 2nd question concerning surviving without the mark, I remind you that God can do anything. In 1Kings 17:4 He provided for Elijah by sending his food to him by using ravens. I truly believe that any people who do not receive the mark will be provided for. After all Matthew 6:26 states that God provides for the birds of the air. Aren't we of more value than them? Verse 33 states that if we strive first for the kingdom of God and His righteousness all these things will be given to us. Isn't that what the saints of the tribulation will be doing, striving for God's kingdom and His righteousness? I'll bet that they will be stiving a lot harder than we do today - and He provides for us all we need to survive. prayon |

803 | Was prophecy fulfilled at Pentecost? | Joel 2:28 | prayon | 5612
Nolan, prophecy was only fulfilled in part at Pentecost. In Acts 2:17-20 Paul tells the men of Judea and those who live in Jerusalem that these persons were not drunk but that the first part of Joel's prophecy had been fulfilled and this was that fulfillment. However, not all of Joel's prophecy was fulfilled that morning. Verse 17 starts off "In the last days", of which we are still in. He continues to pour out His spirit on those who desire it today. Verse 19 states that He will show signs on the earth below - blood, fire, and smoky mist. I believe these are still to come. He also states that the sun shall be darkened and the moon turned to blood which we are told in Revelation 6:12 will be during the tribulation.

806 | How do you know? | Josh 10:12 | prayon | 5449
Evolution/ This says it all! One day a 6 year old girl was sitting in the classroom. The teacher was going to explain evolution to the children. The teacher asked a little boy: Teacher: Tommy do you see the tree outside? Tommy: Yes. Teacher: Tommy, do you see the grass outside? Tommy: Yes. Teacher: Go outside and look up and see if you can see the sky. Tommy: OK. (He returned a few minutes later) Yes, I saw the sky. Teacher: Did you see God? Tommy: No. Teacher: That's my point. We can't see God because he isn't there, he doesn't exist. A little girl spoke up and wanted to ask the boy some questions. Teacher agreed and she asked the boy: Little Girl: Tommy, do you see the tree outside? Tommy: Yes. Little girl: Tommy do you see the grass outside? Tommy: Yessssss (getting tired of the questions by this time) Little girl: Did you see the sky? Tommy: Yessssss Little Girl: Tommy, do you see the teacher? Tommy: Yes Little Girl: Do you see her brain? Tommy: No Little Girl: Does that mean she doesn't have one? FOR WE WALK BY FAITH, NOT BY SIGHT II CORINTHIANS 4:7 |

807 | Did Jesus back up His claim in Jno 8:58? | John 8:58 | prayon | 5102
Yes, He did. He backed it up every time He proved himself to be the Son of God. What He was saying is that He existed before Abraham was born. He also applied Gods Holy name to Himself. That is why they tried to stone him.
808 | What's a covanant, according toSCRIPTURE | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 5064
A covenant is a formal agreement between two parties with each assuming some obligation. It can be between people, countries, or between God and His people. In biblical times two people would make a covenant by cutting an animal in half placing each half on different sides of a ditch. The two parties would then walk arm and arm through the "river of blood". Marriage is a covenant between two people signified by the vows and the ring being the symbol of that covenant. You can read about other covenants by reading about Laban and Jacob (Gen 31:44-54) or David and Jonathan (1Sam 18:3, 23:18). Covenants were given the highest respect. They were not broken. When Jesus died on the cross it was the end of the old covenant which God made with Abraham. We are now under the new covenant. It is a covenant where God has promised to take care of us and give us eternal life and in exchange we devote our lives to Him and do His work. When we are saved we automatically enter into that covenant. |

810 | When is "Bible Graduation Day"? | Prov 9:9 | prayon | 5029
You graduate from the bible when you have taken your last breath and are on your way to heaven. Until that time there is always something to learn. As the saying goes you learn something new each and every day. I agree though that it can be daunting! So much to learn! God is a teaching God and He is constantly teaching us new things. Life continually brings trials to teach us more and make us stronger. There is always a different way of looking at the same scripture. There is always a part of the bible to minister to us every day whether you are in the mood for romance, action, adventure, or mystery. The only thing you can't find is fiction!!! I pray that my desire to learn grows stronger each day so that I never tire of learning more.

814 | Are there saints that willl come through | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 4759
I believe that some will make it through the tribulation because God is merciful and His grace abounds. Throughout the bible God has given people every last chance to be saved because of His great love for us. I can not believe that it will be any different in the tribulation times. I don't see Him deserting anyone and leaving them without someone to provide guidance to Him. Some saints will have to remain on earth to do His work. As for starving from the inability to buy food, I remind you of 1Kings 17:6 where God ordered the ravens to suply Elijah with food. Mark or not, God can provide for all our needs. I admit this could be an assumption on my part.
815 | Synagogue and church analogous? | Matt 23:1 | prayon | 4756
Hank, I am going to take a stab at this since no one else has. I am going to say that no they were not the same. In the gospels numerous times Jesus put the synagogs down because the leaders were more interested in pomp and circumstance and rituals than in teaching the word of God. The rabbi's and priests looked righteous and religious on the outside but were greedy, full of filth and self indulgent on the inside. They did not care about people's souls,(see the woes in Matthew chapter 23). I believe that Jesus would not want His NT church to be simialr to this at all.
816 | Do you mean some people will live twice? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 4752
I must of sounded very confusing. I did not mean to imply that anyone was going to live twice - as you stated there is no such thing as reincarnation. The ones who will live on earth are the tribulation saints that did not die, and I doubt that there will be many. Those martyred will come back to earth with Jesus to reign the 1000 years. Does this make any more sense? |

818 | New Age Movement new? | Gen 3:5 | prayon | 4718
The New Age Movement is a movement of people based on a complex system of beliefs which supposedly will: Save the planet Change the world into a perfect utopian society Usher in the Age of Aquarius and the Christ The main concept is self worship, that man is the center of all things. It believes in the furtherance of humanity based on what man can do for himself. It teaches you to look INSIDE yourself for enlightenment, wisdom, and power. Man think's he's his own god and that God is whatever you make him to be. Unfortunetly the New Age Movement is the most powerful social force in the country today. The New Age Movement changes or ignores historical facts or data that can or will interfere with the achievement of a goal. They believe that the end justifies the means. "If I am a god how can I be wrong". They believe in having "spiritual experiences" without the cost of repentence of that sin. It is a anti-Christ system based on contact from the spirit worker. Humanism plus spiritualism equals New Age. They do not believe that there is a need to be reconciled with God. They believe that you are not born a sinner and that we are one with God, we are a expression of the God spirit. They believe that you can make the bible say anything you want it to say and the accurate guideline is to ask yourself. There are many different holy books that I will not name but each one is considered a different spiritual path. The 5 major New Age Doctriunes are from Gen 3:1-5: 1) The first seonce, or speaking through another, in history. Satan spoke through the snake in the garden. This was also the birthplace of the occult and the first contact with the spirit realm or transmeditation. 2) Verse 4 also talks about reincarnation, "surely not die". 3) "eyes will be opened"; works equals salvation and God's love. If you can do this your eyes will be opened. 4) Oaths, secret rituals, and societies are to be used. God kept the knowledge of good and evil from us so some things need to be secret. 5) "be like God" - tells us that we can be like God. In bible prophecy they believe in a one world religion, the New World Order and in no national barriers. They believe the real new age is the millenial reign with Jesus. On life they believe we are here to serve and worship Mother Earth - which I understand is one of Al Gore's teachings. They believe that we will come back again and again and again until we get it right. PLEASE NOTE: This information came from a workshop I attended given by Eric Barger of Take A Stand Ministries. It does not focus on any one particular "denomination" but on all in general. |

819 | What were Tabernacle and Temple? | OT general | prayon | 4452
The tabernacle was the portable sanctuary of the Isrealites when they were wandering in the wilderness. The temple was the permanent structure which was built by Solomon. They both were very important part of the worshipping of the Isrealites. Both the temple and the tabernacle were very similar in design and what was contained in them. The directions for the building of it are in Exodus 25-30. and the directions for the temple are in 1Kings 6-8.
820 | Is prayer of Jabez special? | 1 Chr 4:10 | prayon | 4446
Their is a play on words between Jabez and 'oseb(pain). Because of that his name was likely to bring him many unpleasant circumstances. Many belived that the only way to change this was to change his name. However, Jabez did not do this. Instead he prayed to God. It is believed that the writer emphasized this to show that direct prayer can change the fortunes of life. His prayer was very special. It was a prayer for spiritual properity. It also asked for the enlargement of his coast and deliverence from evil. He showed great spiritual discernment. He prayed not to be kept from evil but to be kept from being grieved by it. He acknowledged that God was indeed the true center of his life. I may be mistaken but I believe that there was a book that came out recently about the prayer of Jabez. Check your bookstore if you want to know more. prayon |
