401 | Who are "the least of these?" | Matt 25:40 | justme | 219362
R D Miller: Interesting to note there are no parallels like this in any of the three other gospels. These verses confront every Christian as to how we respond to human need. There is a future judgement clearly stated by Matthew. In Matthew 25:31-46 there seems to be no suprise when the sheep and goats are each assigned different places. I don't think either the sheep or goats expected to be in a different place other than where they are. To think this passage is saying that righteous works will win salvation would be a serious misinterpretation. The sheep did not show love to gain reward. The sheep showed Christian love in their normal traffic pattern of life. The goats also show the lack of campassion and love because they too walked in their normal way. Perhaps the goats might of treated the the needs of people differently had they known their eternal destination depended upon their compassion for those in need. Jesus uses himself as the "I was" in the illistrations. The brothers in my opinion are anyone in genuine need. I don't think this limits the "least of them" to acts given just to Christians. The least could be to the unsaved as well. However even a deeper compassion for brothers and sisters in Christ has a depth of it's own. John 13:34-35 says all people will know we are His disciples by the way we show our love for others. Those who are indifferent to the Gospel reject Christ. Today we see open rejection of Christ and Christians in such a wide scale in our country. "Fundamenal Christians" have even been labeled as "might be a terrorists" recently by some in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. There are those who have little sympathy or compassion for people in need. Who might be those who are the least? Mothers in "with unplanned pregnantancies", "babies (real souls) in the whomb", eldery, children, parents be they single, married, ect. There are so many people in genuine need. "The least of these" is such a wide scope, and to be honest no government, church, organization, or person could possible reach out to all the "least of these". With all I have said, there is a interpretation that is most generally in the understanding that I present. Having said that the Holy Spirit might be directing you to a specific additional way for you personally to grow spiritually. I have been motivated in the past, after reading this passage in Matthew 25:31-46 to be more aware of the "least of these". The separation of "sheep" and "goats" is a message that runs through the entire New Testament. Even though the message of eternal punishment (hell) is mentioned over and over in the New Testament, people still joke and reject Jesus Christ. They which reject Jesus Christ even deny the very existence of a Holy God. I have no idea when the end time will come. I believe this passage in Matthew has a warning in it for everyone who has surrendered to Christ as Lord. Christians, of all people we are to be the most compassionate, and sympathic in the world, country, state, and place in which we live. Thank you for bringing up such a passage to spur us on the greater love for one another. justme |

R. D. Miller: I totally agree with Paul in the fact that I am as well among thoes who are considered worset. You seem to have what you think down pretty pat. I encourage you to prove to yourself by backing tour theory Scriptually. Blessings, Mr. Greem, and a blessed Thanks Giving.
403 | Communion | Matt 26:26 | justme | 87562
JimCar: You have asked a very important question. I can give you a very bias pritestant view, as the Locknam is representative of evangelical position. I am in no way saying I represent Lockman, let me make that abundantly clear. I do have a M Div. and a MARS degree fron a Baptist Theological Seminary. I am retired, and can give you my perspective from my understanding of Scripture. Ok? Protestants DO NOT believe that the bread and cup turn into the actual flesh and blood of Christ as Catholics do. We do not believe in Sacrements as Catholics do. These are major and important differences, and not to be taken lightly. Many protestants do not believe in infant baptism, but some do, mainly what I call higher churchs, ones that have a higharchy type of leadership Baptism, Marriage, Communion, Ordination for Ministry by laying hands on and praying, Anointing the sick, and Foot Washing are what some would call Ordinances. Some would leave off foot washing, or anointing the sick. Commuinon is for those who have made Christ Lord, and been Baptized. Generally in a church setting the Pastor or Eldres, or Deacons administer the Bread and Cup. However there is nothing that says you can't have communion as a family with you or anyone who is a genuine Christian from doing the communion. Bible Study groups, Christian camps. and many different groups have celebrated this special Rememberance of our Lord Jesus Christ. I sincerely hope this helps you in growing in the Lord. Any thoughts or questions. |

404 | Once saved, always saved? | Matt 27:5 | justme | 125539
tmjt21: Welcome to the forum. Often when this question comes up the meaning behind this question is just as important. This has been dialouged many times and there are believers on both sides of this issue. Which ever outlook a Christian has should not cause reason for disfellowshiping with one another. Personally I am concerned that sometimes unless we take into account that there those who havea proclaimed faith that is not genuine. These fall by the wayside and depart form the faith. These that leave the faith, in reality has a flawed faith and were not born again. Those that remain, and abide in Christ Jesus, those born again, are eternalaly secure, sealed by the Holy Spirit and held in the Lord Jesus hand. If I were a person asking this question, perhaps I might really be asking how little can I do the be saved and still live a sinful life. I hyave found thsi to be the case on a few that asked me this question. John chapter 10 in reading the whole chapter will be a big help for you. I hope this helps. Blessings. justme |

405 | WHO HANDLES CHURCH MONEY | Matt 27:51 | justme | 80158
philsull:The Bible says to bring our ththes and offerings to be put in the churches storehouse. Today that is the local church, and because nost in the USA use checks or cash, a bank and bank account of some sort must be used. In other countries, like Mexico and Bolivia, the people give a portion of their crop, I have seen ears of dried corn stacked 6 feet hing in the cornor of sever churches at harvest time. However as to churches giving or publishing abudget. Publishing is not required by law. However, any member or any person member or not can ask for a written statement of income and payments, as required by Fedral law, for nonprofit organizations. If you are refused a written statement, a letter on noncompliance would be sent to your state agency that gives nonprofit status to such organizations, and they will give you the information you may want or need. This is not limited to churches. ANY nonprofit tax exempt organization like the Red Cross, or the like is mandated by law to comply with this law. Few are the people and organizations that are well informed of this law. Blessings. justme |

406 | can only male's from a church baptise | Matt 28:19 | justme | 73982
Igrabow: Welcome to the Forim! Scripture says nothing to prevent any genuine Christian from preventing them from baptizing a new believer in Christ. Although some would say this should be done through a local body of believers. Som Denomonations, some Souther Baptist will only acknowledge baptism done by an ordained Southern Baptist Deacon or Pastor. There are several churches that have female pastors and they do baptize. Most generaly it is done in the name of the Father, Son. and the Holy Spirit. This Ordiance is symbolizing the death burrial and rising of our old sinful self and the rising of our new creation of self. Like Jesus who died for us all who will call Him to save us, and His death and burial, and Jesus reiaing from the dead. I think you have brought a very interesting question to the forum, and my answer is only one of my opinion, and others may not agree, but we respect and show love and kindness here, nice I think. Blessings. justme |

407 | Holy Spirit OR Water Baptism, which? | Matt 28:19 | justme | 77480
Disciplerami: Can we have one with out the other? In Acts we see that the Holy Spirit came after receiving Christ. Then there was the question should we baptize these heathen and it was determined they had received the Holy Spirit as the Jews that came to Christ did. They then Bpatized the non Jew converts with water. Baptism is confession of an inward change. Who changes us? Is this change not the Holy Spirit of The Almighty Lord? Blessings. justme |

408 | Who are authorised to perform Baptism | Matt 28:19 | justme | 176534
skolaventy: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! Youask a very good question. In reality any believer can baptise a Christian needing to be baptised. The big issue is that some if not many want you to be baptised under the churches authority. Some churhes and denominations require you be baptised again under their authority. My wife was re-baptised in a Southern Baptist Church. She was pleased to be a witness for the Lord, especially when she recieved Christ at the age of five, she was in her mid thirties at the time. I am reminded that often my pastor as a young boy use to say "here is water what hinders you from being baptised?" Hope this helps. Justme |

409 | Why is Mark 16:9-20 contested? | Mark | justme | 52069
The most reliable early manuscripts and other ancient witnesses do not have Mark 16:9 to 20. There are other scriptures in other spots that have minor additions like this one. The editors want you fully informed when they come across these. Nothing of the Gospel is changed, and therefor it in notworthy. agape, justme |

410 | Jesus saves, not baptizing, right? | Mark | justme | 82552
Timmybean: Welcome to the forum! I see this is your very first note. You are correct in your statement that the basic first step in being a Christian is to ask Christ to into your life. However, with that comes the proof of making Jesus Christ Lord, is to obey His commands. A Christian will want to identify and confess Jesus is Lord by being Baptized. I believe if we look at someone who has been a Christian for some length of time and has not been baptized, then there is something very seriously wrong. I hope this helps. Enjoy the Forum and feel free to ask something else if you wish. Blessings to you Timmy. justme |

411 | Prayer and verses to help hopelessness | Mark 2:17 | justme | 209118
isa26: What you discribe that your sister is saying is not to be taken lightly. You need to call her psychiatrist and inform him of your sisters feelings. Perhaps, if you do not know how to make contact with the Doctor, have your sister call him with you being there for encouragement and making sure she does contact him. Please do not assume that all depression and feelings of hopelessness are of satan. There can be medical reasons for these type of feelings as well, sugar can even cause these feelings, either too much or not enough can effect the brain. As a Scripture may I suggest 1 John 4 the entire chapter, actually the complete book of 1 John would be very helpful for her. Pray for her when you are with her, that way she hears for herself that you are praying for her. If the depression is where she won't read herself read Scripture to her. I would keep a watchful eye on her, and follow up with her doctor to make sure she is getting the corrected medications she might need. One other resource that is very important is her pastor, or yours, this is very important as well. I sincerely pray for you and your sister. justme |

412 | why were James and John called the sons | Mark 3:17 | justme | 49485
In Matk 3:17. The name given to James and John was "Boanergers" which "proberly described their dispositions." see Mark 10:37 and Luke 9:54-55" notes from NASB Study Bible Updated. Page 1423. Copyright 1999 by Zondervan Corporation. In other simple words so the Sons of Thunder were proberly a roudy bunch of good guys. I can just imagine playing practicle jokes, wanting to be first, and type A personality extroverts. Ok? agape, justme |

413 | Demon posession or Personality disorder? | Mark 5:15 | justme | 211898
bandaid: Perhaps, we have become so educated that we have lost the belief in demons? We all have heard about Jeffery Dalhmar and his eating human flesh, and the many people he killed. This was in my opinion, a man who was demon possesed. Charles Manson is also a person I would say is demon possesed. These men are at the top of my example list of demon possesion. I believe that when Jesus healed those whom He said had demons, these people had more than medications could ever do for them. When Jesus cast out demonds there was clear evidence demons were present and active in the persons life. I think filth was involved in such demon possesed lives. I have never have been involved with anyone who said they were possesed by demons before they got saved. The stories I have heard about have been few, but as I recall they happened in South America, and places wwhere witchcraft and spiritualism were taken place. There are medical conditions that do cause people to act in very strange ways. For example Alzheimers Disease, can bring out words and actions that are opposite of the way the people once lived and believed. This disease is dreadful, and is not demon possesion. We do know that much about the brain and how disease can alter the thinking and actions of genuinely ill people. There are those who are quick to label all bad actions as personality disorders, that covers sin fairly easy. In my opinion drunkeness is a sin that makes a person dependant upon drinking even more, the result is a disease, but sin is at the core of the problem. Such are the case with many mental problems. This same Jesus who healed people long ago, still heals today. Jesus uses Doctors, Pastors, and other Christians to help heal today. To be honest prayer and the work of the Holy Spirit, should guide those who are trained to know the difference in real mental illness and sin, or genuine disorders. The key is prayer and wisdom. Many in the field of psychology are not Christians, and even some who are Christians, have adopted humanistic psychology, which keeps the person locked into a never endind cycle of never getting to the real solution which is surrendering to Christ and becoming a genuine follower. I hope this helps. justme |

414 | Not incest, but adultery? | Mark 6:18 | justme | 77527
disciplerim: In a pure way of thinking, relations within a family being a relative it very well could be considered incest. Most certianly Herodia's daughter was dancing to stirr up Herods errotic feelings, and her dancing was intended to arrouse him. That would by Christ deffination of lusting after a woman would be incestual thoughts. What do you think? Peace. justme |

415 | "Tables" or "Beds" in original text? | Mark 7:4 | justme | 77496
disciplerami: Why the NASB does not have couches or bed is a mystry to me. In the Interlinear Hebrew-Greek-English Bible the last word in verse 4 of Mark chapter 7 is couches. Above the word is a reference to Strongs number 2825. This has vy interest perked up. I have yet to find a verse that the NASB has a different reading without a reason. I will did until I find a reason, and let you know. justme |

419 | Why doesn’t God just show himself to tho | Mark 11:22 | justme | 66234
Jmartin: Welcome back to the forum! I see it's been a while from your last visit. Scripture in a number of places declares there is nore than enough evidence in just looking at nature to enlighten anyone. In that alone mankind will be judged for rejecting the Creator, LORD GOD. There is abundant evidence in history to prove that Biblical history is recorded accurately. Our calendar is based on BC (before Christ) that must say something! But regaurdless, for those who do not want to believe, there will never be enough evidence to convince them. Think about this. Either Jesus Christ is who He said He was and is, or this is the biggest scam ever played on mankind, and Jesus was a illegitmate son of Mary, and His death was falsified, and His ressurection is a myth that the whole word still celebrates. Are you willing to bet eternity that Jesus is not the only begotten Son of God? When a person believes in Christ as Lord, and it is a genuine conversion the Holy Spirit comes to our living conscience, or if you want say heart. The Holy Spirit confirms that you are in Christ. The Holy Spirit convicts of sin, interceeds for us and teaches us. That is your positive proof! I hope you have asked Christ to be your Lord. How does this seem to you? May God Bless you. justem |

rich: Jesus refered to "Holy Father" in John 17:11. I often start my prayer in this way. I have lived long enough to have heard people call out "hepl me God." It's not really "Biblical" but I am sure the Father heard it. What do you think about my first response? How about the second? justme |
