61 | Did Jesus pre-exist before his birth? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 76696
Dear Shadowwhisperer, Yes, Jesus did exist before he was born in the flesh. He is God and was God and ever shall be God. One of the many Scriptures that deals with this issue is John 1:1-3, 14 which states this clearly, I believe. Hope this is of help. Itiswritten. |

62 | Were Pharoahs in Egypt during Jesus time | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 76732
Dear Songbirdca, No. Cleopatra was a contemporary of Herod the Great who had all the young babies killed when Jesus was born. Cleopatra and Antony died before Jesus was born and she was the last pharaoh to my knowledge. I learned this from an archaeological history book which says that Herod the Great wrote a letter which is in a museum today, in which he wrote Mark Antony a personal friend of his. In this letter he warned Mark Antony to stay away from Cleopatra...that she would ruin his life. Ha! I thought that was amusing and it blew my mind to think that she was a contemporary of someone who lived up until the early years of Jesus. I had previously thought of her as from an earlier time than this. Itiswritten. |

65 | 2ond most important book in your life? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 76858
Dear Billk, The second most important book in helping me with my Christian walk was "The Hiding Place," by Corrie Ten Boom. Her experience with the Lord from her childhood through her later years and through the holocaust in World War II had a profound effect in shaping my understanding of the Lord and in influencing the way in which I would begin to trust Him with my life early on in my own Christian walk...through the good and bad times. 66 | isaiah 65:20 ? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 76990
Dear Strongfellow, I don't believe this prophecy is about heaven. I believe it speaks about the 1000 year reign of Christ Jesus on this earth when He returns. If you go back to verse 17 it speaks of a new heaven and a NEW EARTH. Once we go to heaven we no longer can die. We have already passed into the next life, so to speak. The "millennium" is a twentieth century term for this period of time spoken of in the Bible when Jesus Christ returns...what many speak of as the "Battle of Armageddon" also modern term which speaks of the end of this age [not the end of the world]. Then Jesus will rule the earth from Jerusalem and it will be the way it would have been, so to speak, had Adam not sinned. At the end of this time, Satan will be loosed for a time of testing for those who have not had the chance to make a choice, and then this world will end. However, God and His people will not end; we will be with Him forever. This is clearly spoken of in Revelation 20. It speaks of the devil being bound and it speaks of the thousand year reign of Christ. Also, remember, God is outside of time and to Him one thousand years is like a day. This is also in the Scripture in Psalm 90:4 and 2 Peter 3:8. I hope this is of some help to you. Itiswritten |

67 | new man old looks | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 77075
Dear Christian7, Please tell your friend that Romans 8:28 applies even to his tattoos. It does not matter what he did before, only what he does from now on. And remember also that this body will not go with us into eternity. I Cor. 15: 51-58 tells us about what will happen when Jesus comes. It reminds us that this body will not go on; we will be changed and that means this body will be also changed. The Just shall live by Faith [Rom. 1:17] Abraham was made righteous simply because he believed God [Rom 4:3] See also Romans 5:17-18 Remind him also that he is to mind the things of the Spirit...not of the flesh Romans 8:4. Remind your friend also of Romans 10:3-9. See also Romans 14:17 and II Corinthians 5:21; Galatians 3:6; Ephesians 4:24-32; Eph. 5:9-10; 2 Timothy 3:16; and Titus 3:5-9 I know that this is a lot and I hope through it your brother in Christ will be set free. Our answers are always somewhere in the Word of the Lord. I will keep you both in my prayers. Sincerely in Christ, for I believe he is merely experiencing an attack from the evil one which is designed to keep him from having fruit. We need to keep our eyes on Jesus and His Word and carry on with what Jesus would have us to be doing in learning and growing in Him that He may use us is some small way in His kingdom. And one more thing. The marks on his body will simply serve to remind him of is past sinful life. He can use this to realize it will keep him humble before the Lord and can actually open doors to persons that would not otherwise listen to the Gospel and at the same time the victories the Lord may give him will also remind him it is not himself but the Lord. It may even be a sign that the Lord will use him mightily for He has a great tool to keep him humble. I hope I have been able to be of some assistance. Sincerely in Christ Jesus, Itiswritten. |

Dear Angelface, I know it has been some time since you asked this question, but I just came across it. Your answer is in Genesis 35:22. That is the sin specifically and you should read the verses around it to get the full story. I hope this is helpful. Itiswritten. |

Dear Chynna, I believe you are right that this concerns the 1000 reign of Christ on this earth as it speaks of things of the earth as they should be and haven't yet been. It does not speak of heavenly things...in my opinion. I personally take it literally, but that is my opinion. Itiswritten. |

72 | Diffrent between Catolic -protestant | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 77296
Dear Figoyuen, I will try to help you. I was raised Roman Catholic from the time I was a child. I accepted Jesus as My Lord and Savior when I was about 28 years old while I was reading my Bible and was gloriously saved through an encounter with Him. I now find that I prefer to attend Assemblies of God or other Nondenominal churches where the Word of God is given first place, so to speak. The original church, from the time of the Apostles, was only one. They were terribly persecuted by the Roman Empire on and off for the first few hundred years and it is only by the grace of God that the Word survived. In about 300 A.D. Constantine became the first Christian Emperor who made Christianity the religion of the empire. The term "catholic" meant "universal" in those days and there was still one church which was, now that the apostles were no longer on this earth, led by several "bishops". Eventually a tug of war for power or influence or both went on between the Roman bishop and the Greek bishop in what later was called Byzantium and there was a split in the church and we then had the Roman or western Catholic Church and the Greek Orthodox or eastern Church. Even later, the church became corrupted and Martin Luther, a Roman Catholic Priest wrote the "95 Thesis" calling for reform in the church. Instead he inadvertantly started the Protestant Reformation. I highly recommend "Church History in Plain Language" by Bruce L. Shelley a paperback which is an excellent, nonbiased history of how the church evolved and can be purchased for about twenty dollars- it is by Nelson Publishers. The Roman Catholic Church uses the Word of God but it tends to hold tradition as high or sometimes higher than the Word of God. Many of the traditions are good and in fact wonderful. However, some contradict the Word of God. The Word of God says that Mary would be considered blessed for all generations...I do not believe that means we should be praying to her as the Roman Catholic Church encourages. Because of the teachings of the Catholic Church, Roman Catholics feel unworthy to go to Jesus and feel, in their misguided humility, that they should go to her so that she could speak to her "Son" for them. Jesus paid the price for our Salvation, not Mary and He is the intermediary between us and the Father [I Timothy 2:5]. We lost contact with the Father in the Garden of Eden - and Christ paid the debt to repair the breach- The Catholic Bible is a little different than the Protestant Bible, but this really has nothing to do with why they have added so much to their church doctrine. All doctrine should come from the Scripture [II Timothy 3:16]. They have all the truths of the Bible but they have added much more and some of it has been given place in contradicting Scripture. The Protestant Churches accept only those Biblical books which the Jews at the time of Christ had accepted as Scripture or as canon. The Roman Catholic Church accepts those but also a number of additional ones [all Old Testament] which even they don't say are inspired by God but they are good for historical reference, such as Maccabees I and II which give us some of the history between the Old and New Testaments. I hope this is of some help to you...I believe the book I mentioned above would be much more helpful than I and would help clarify things a little better. Itiswritten. |

73 | Why are movies like Harry Potter bad? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 77314
Dear TLenard6, Harry Potter movies and books are considered bad by many Christians because they teach the principals of witchcraft and cause the reader to sympathize with Harry's character who practices deceit and disrespect and the like. It is the first time in this country or in Western society that I have heard of such a rage over a "make believe" book that promoted things that our culture never thought of as good character traits. Really the problem is they are designed for the young who are impressionable and with crime so prevalent these days, it is not a good influence. It is not that there is "make-believe" supernatural things talked about in the story but good is not portrayed as good and evil as evil. Deceit and disrespect are not good for society. However, in "Lord of the Rings" for example...there is good, there is evil, there is the supernatural. But good character traits are portrayed as good and evil character traits are portrayed as evil. This is a much better influence on young impressionable minds. This is my opinion. Itiswritten |

75 | is lent in the bible? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 80039
To Gad, There is no dirrective that you must observe lent according to the Bible. I too was raised as a Roman Catholic. I have not remained in the Catholic Church but I do understand your situation. Let me first say, you are not under pain of sin that if you do not observe lent you will go to hell or you will be considered as sinning. However, do not use the liberty you have as a born-again believer to weaken someone you may be involved with (a boyfriend/girlfriend, mother, father, friend, cousin, sister, brother, etc)that if you flaunt your freedom in Christ, you may cause them to sin. (I Cor. 8:9). For instance, if you are with someone to whom you wish to be witness, do not gobble up a desert in front of them to make your point. If they do it with you and really in their heart think of it as a sin, it is a sin for them and you will be causing them to sin. But you are not bound by it. I, for one, do not think you can leglislate good acts in a general sense. I, however, do not think it is entirely wrong to encourage a time of introspection and reflection which would cause repentance and correction in the body of Christ. Having said this, many Protestants and even many Roman Catholics may not realize what the good of this "lent" process is. For one thing it is biblical to fast and seek the presence of God. Putting down the body helps our spiritual nature rise up and become stronger or allow us to be more spiritually aware. This is not a bad thing. The way Lent is set up in the Roman Catholic Church is that it begins with Ash Wednesday. The ashes used are the burned remaining palms from the previous Palm Sunday. The priest dips his finger into the ashes and makes a cross on the foreheads of the believer to remind him/her that he/she comes from the dust of the ground and to that ground his/her body shall return. From this day on the fasting begins and is over on Easter Sunday when we all celebrate the greatest event in all of Christendom. Without the resurrection all Christianity is in vain. While believers fast, they are supposed to be dwelling on the suffering and death of Jesus Christ who paid for our sinful selves and who made us able to live forever in the next life with Him and His Father. It is a worthy exercise to have a regular time to do this self-examination. The problem is that because it is legislated by the Catholic Church on a regular basis, many ignore it or have forgotten the meaning behind the outward actions they are taking. I hope these comments somehow are helpful to you. Itiswritten. |

76 | are saudi arabians from Ishmael's line | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 80257
Dear Restoration, All the Arabs are descendants of Ishmael. That does not mean all who follow the religion of Islam are descendants of Ishmael. Iran are mostly of Persian descent. This would make them of European stock (so to speak), and some of these Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia, have people of mixed origins. There are many who follow Islam in Africa and Indonesia and many of the Island people. These are not usually of Arab stock. But technically, those of pure Arab descent are from Ishmael. 77 | God not around sin how satan go to him | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 80266
Dear glazedoughnut, I don't believe that the Bible tells us that God CANNOT be in the presence of sin. It does say that no MAN CAN SEE GOD (AS IN GOD THE FATHER) AND LIVE, so that our sinful flesh cannot continue after coming into the conscious presence of a full revelation of HIM. (Ex. 33:20-23)And God does not care to look at sin or be in the presence of sin. However, God is limited by nothing. So, I do not believe that it is true that God CANNOT be in the presence of sin. He went down and looked at man in his rebellion concerning the Tower of Babel (Gen. 11:5) and He (Genesis 6:6 and 6:7)repented that he had made man on the earth and decided to flood the earth and destroy almost all that He had created. He even spoke to the serpent. And even in the beginning He spoke directly to the serpent and to Satan in Genesis 3:14-15. No, God is not limited by evil. He is master of all and for this short time He allows the devil to speak to Him.(Rev. 12:10-11) I hope I have answered clearly as I am having a little trouble with my connection. I hope this is helpful. Itiswritten. |

78 | "Stations of the cross" only Catholic? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 80387
Dear Dmaldona, I am a born again Christian who has been formerly raised as a Roman Catholic. As far as I know The stations of the cross are only observed by Roman Catholics. It is a beautiful tradition and a worthy exercise in that it calls the believer to meditate on the suffering and death of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, but it is not biblically taught so it would be foreign to most Protestant (if not all) denominations. I do not know if the Eastern rite (such as the Greek Orthodox Church) has this tradition...it is possible. If there are any born again Christians in this forum who are originally from the Greek Orthodox tradition, I would be curious to know if they also have such tradition. Itiswritten. |

79 | Help Me With Bible Study... | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 81159
Dear 1001 nights, I have been teaching the Bible for about 19 years or so. The reason for the name I have taken for this forum is because I believe the Word is the most important gift the Lord has given us from which we can navigate our lives in line with Him in this world. I try not to insist on my opinion of His Word but to give the scripture for any situation. I believe the Lord has answers for us through His word for any situation. I may not always find it but because of the time I have spent in His word and walking with Him, I may have enough to be able to help you get a good handle on it. This is what the Lord called me to do. I was born and raised a Roman Catholic of a Jewish mother and Roman Catholic father. I met the Lord while reading my Catholic Bible seeking Him with my whole heart. I no longer attend the Catholic Church but prefer an Assemblies of God denomination though I do not believe the Catholic Church is a cult or anything - I just feel that the Assemblies churches focus more on the word and the gifts of the Spirit which suits my understanding of the Word of God. From the time I was saved my life has never been the same. I continued to read His word and apply it to my life and have found that the Lord has never let me down. After being saved about seven years, and through a tragedy in the life of my family, He called me to minister through leading Bible study. As I have obeyed, most of those who have come to the study have been new Christians or they got saved upon entering our study. It has been a glorious blessing to me to have the privilege of watching these babes in Christ grow to maturity in their walk with the Lord Jesus. I would like nothing better than to share whatever the Lord may give me that could help you in your journey with Him. My attitude is that (Philippians 1:6)the Lord will finish what He has begun in you...that is not my job. However, if He so desires that I may be of some inspiration or help in this endeavor, it would be my privilege. Also, I encourage anyone in the studies that I lead to check the scriptures for themselves, to see if what I may say is true and if they disagree, that is their divine right. If this is at all what you are interested in, I would enjoy hearing from you maybe through e-mail we may be able to correspond with a limited study or I could answer some questions you may have. If this is at all what you may be seeking, you may reach me at marymac84@hotmail.com Itiswritten |
