548 | baptism by emersion only? | Matt 3:16 | azurelaw | 192867
Dear pogolue, For your information, my denomination employs baptism by sprinkling and my father have me baptised when I was an infant. I am still happy with my church which teaches according to bible. My search for your question has brought me to the below sites which hold argument with different stands (the sprinkling and the immersion) and I hope you find it helpful in understanding the topic. http://www.all-of-grace.org/pub/others/baptism.html http://www.ccs-hk.org/DM/Bapt_mode.html May the Lord keep us in His union for we are baptized to His body. 549 | rule of the Tumb? | Matt 4:4 | azurelaw | 210209
Dear Grace, Do you mean "rule of thumb"? which, according to information provided by wikipeida, means: A general guideline, rather than a strict rule; an approximate measure or means of reckoning based on experience or common knowledge. It is not a biblical term. We are to live by the every word of God. 2 Tim 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 2 Tim 3:17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. 550 | What is the meanining of Beatitudes? | Matt 5:1 | azurelaw | 227182
Dear Gracy, Welcome to the forum. Here is what Charles Biggs' commented regarding the Beatitudes... *quote* The 'Beatitudes' are simply what those who have been gripped by the grace of the Lord Jesus and have been saved by his precious blood will begin to look like. In other words, the 'Beatitudes' are the characteristics of Christ-likeness that will gradually be manifested in the believer's life. The 'Beatitudes' are, if you will, "Attitudes of Gratitude" for the work that Christ has already begun in us, and knowing that this work will continue until the Day when Christ returns for us (Phil. 1:6). *unquote* Shalom Azure |

551 | SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH | Matt 5:17 | azurelaw | 223117
Dear Robert, I have to agree with Doc that he encourages you to diligently study His Holy Word. The Bible is not only about the 10 commandments that as a user manual guiding our daily lives, the Bible is so rich with its treasure of God's revelation of Himself, His redeeming grace through Jesus Christ, how we could come to know Him, live according to His will, etc. (Psalm 119) Enjoy your study and taste His glory. 552 | Fornication mistranslated? | Matt 5:28 | azurelaw | 196327
Dear libraudr, I can tell you that Jesus' standard is much much higher. Show your christian(?) friend Matthew 5:27-28. It would be good to ask him to read also v29-30 and 1 Cor 5:1-5 as well. Rom 12:1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and HOLY sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. Shalom Azure |

553 | adultery | Matt 5:28 | azurelaw | 198491
Dear jesus1km, YES !!! VERY SAD to know about your dangerous situation. You are in great temptation. Please STOP your relationship. You will hurt all parties involved and it does not glorify our Lord. Earnestly pray for yourself, pray for your friend and pray for his wife, too. Focus on God and His Word, not your own lust nor man. Talk to your pastor or some mature Christians whom you trust. Shalom Azure |

554 | Is looking at porn a sin if ur single? | Matt 5:28 | azurelaw | 220885
Dear Bob, You have been given fine answers by Brad and Doc. As Brother Doc has already quoted you Mat 5:28, I would also like to offer you a verse from the prayer that our Lord taught: Matt 6:13 'And do not lead us into TEMPTATION, but deliver us from evil. Stay away from temptation...just like Joseph...run away from it (Gen 39:12). Prov 6:27 Can a man take fire in his bosom And his clothes not be burned? Prov 6:28 Or can a man walk on hot coals And his feet not be scorched? Shalom Azure |

555 | Help if woman took neighbor's husband | Matt 5:32 | azurelaw | 221304
Dear Anamak, 1/ It is sure not appropriate to expose your friend's name (if she is your friend) in a public forum. Despite her wrong doing (only according to what you have portrayed), you should keep her anonymous if you truly treat her as a friend. 2/ This kind of issue is usually very complicated. You should urge and encourage your friend (?) to talk to her pastor or elder or someone mature in faith at her church. 3/ I would suppose that she is your friend, then you should speak the truth in love as what is taught in Mat 18:15-17. Please read the scripture in its context. It is about forgiving, fair judgment and church discipline. Lastly, every action of helping the family and your friend should be supported with fervent and sincere prayers. Shalom Azure P.S. I wonder if you are the wife. |

557 | Hatred..Am I truly a Christian?? | Matt 5:44 | azurelaw | 202855
Dear Lissamz, Brother Doc has given you an excellent answer and advice. When we pray God to teach us love, give us patience, etc., there are instances around us challenging us about that. For example, when I ask God for granting me patience, my daughter will challenge me with her disobedience that sometimes drives me crazy :-( When I ask God to grant me a loving heart, there are people around me appear to be offensive and disgusting - again, my challenges. We can't be perfect all at once, but just get closer to His image bit by bit when we are submissive. The more we get closer, the more of His glory we can see and enjoy thus the more strength we get from Him for the challenges lie ahead. May I humbly submit the below prayer by St Francis for you to meditate on:- "Peace Prayer" Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love, Where there is injury let me sow pardon, Where there is doubt let me sow faith, Where there is despair let me give hope, Where there is darkness let me give light, Where there is sadness let me give joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not try to be comforted but to comfort, Not try to be understood but to understand, Not try to be loved but to love. Because it is in giving that we receive, It is in forgiving that we are forgiven, And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. - St Francis ***** Rom 5:3-5 ... knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Shalom Azure |

558 | silent prayer | Matt 6:5 | azurelaw | 191506
Dear mike--, May I recommend the below scriptures for you: Mat 6:5-8 Luke 18:9-14 I don't see any scriptures demand us to pray aloud for getting the Lord's attention. If so, woe unto those who are dumb! Do we have to yell at Jesus? By the way, Jesus is not deaf as well. Meanwhile, praying aloud does not mean that you are praying truly and honestly. I am afraid I have to say that the person who told you that the Lord will not hear your prayer unless you pray aloud is just putting a stumbling stone onto you. (See how Jesus rebukes the Pharisees) Be it a silent prayer or a vocal prayer, we have to pray fervently, truly, trustingly, desperately and according to His will. It is our heart and attitude that matter not the prayer's audibility. You may do a word search for this subject which has been discussed on the forum in the past in order to get a better idea. Enjoy the forum and Shalom Azure P.S.: Several times I was so much in sorrow that I could not utter a word when I prayed. God listened to me. |

559 | What versus talk about praying silently | Matt 6:5 | azurelaw | 201467
Dear Klindad, Welcome to the forum. You probably are looking for Matthew 6:5-15 where Jesus rebuked the Pharisees by comparing a truly repenting sinner's prayer with the hypocritical praying of the Pharisees'. Go further to v33, this verse is in echo with verse 10. However, within the context from v24 to 34, the focus was more on our faith and concern on the Kingdom of God instead of worldly needs (Col 3:1-2). James Chapter 1 as recommended by Sister Val some time earlier on the forum is helpful for our study about praying. You may also do a word search on both the "search box" and "get bible text box" at your right hand corner of the screen by typing "pray" for further study. Hope you enjoy the forum. Shalom Azure |

560 | Explain Matthew 6:6 | Matt 6:6 | azurelaw | 240046
Dear Claudia, Welcome to the forum. Please read the chapter in context. Jesus was teaching His followers not to imitate those hypocrites (especially the Pharisees) who concern only on the outward behaviour of showing self-righteousness for gaining praise and admiration of others. No matter your deeds are for charity or spirituality, God values the heart not the outward appearances. You will see that Jesus sometimes uses rhetoric expression to emphasize the message of His teaching. This is one of those many examples. You may also find more in chapter 5. Shalom Azure |
