261 | Was the Bible written by fortune tellers | Luke 24:1 | Val | 196180
Tell him that Satan has blinded his eyes. Relying on fortune tellers is idolatry. It is not your responsibility to make your friend believe. Your responsibility is to proclaim the gospel of Christ Jesus's death burial and resurrection and leave the rest to Him. Go to the Lord in prayer and ask Him to open your friend's eyes. Luke 24:44 Now He said to them, "These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled." Luke 24:45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, Luke 24:46 and He said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, Luke 24:47 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. Luke 24:48 "You are witnesses of these things. |

262 | jesus and the woman at the well | John | Val | 222817
Not everything that happens is recorded so we don't know if she did or didn't as the scripture may not say. However the point of the story is that Jesus offered her eternal life. He compared Himself to water and went on to say whoever drinks of this water will live forever. It is a beautiful story to show that salvation is available to even the lowest of sinners if they will only believe. John 4:13-15. This was His work on earth.

There are some things we will never understand until we get home. I don't really understand your last question but I will tell you this many people believe they may become gods and as the end approaches this will become more and more prevalent. It is false. The bible says God will not share His glory with anyone. I am not assuming this is what you meant. I hope you will continue in the word and prayer. May God bless you.
266 | New King Version | John 1:1 | Val | 197808
They are one God in three persons. I know this is hard to understand but if you do a study of the words God, Jesus and Holy Spirit when you study a book of the bible you will see the relationship of the three. Mark each one in different colors throughout the book and then write out each verse, first God, Jesus and then Holy Spirit. The bible will come alive as you see each one. Since you used the book of John, try using this book and do one chapter. When you see how wonderful it is you will want to do the second chapter and so on until you finish the book of John. It is fascinating how you get a different perspective on each one when you focus your attention this way. It allows you to slow down and really meditate on it. You could spend an entire week or more just meditating on the one chapter. Prayer is essential so start with prayer and ask the Lord to open your eyes so you may understand his glorious truths and ultimately to know Him better. He is a wonderful Lord and I pray that you will grow in the grace and knowledge of Him. May God bless you and Merry Christmas.Luke 1:30 The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. Luke 1:31 "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. Luke 1:32 "He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; Luke 1:33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end." |

273 | What does Hebrews 9:16 mean? | John 1:1 | Val | 211789
The word testament is the same as "will". For instance, your father may have a will and in it leave you his house. You would not receive the house until your father died. Similarly the New Covenant did not go into effect until Christ's death. Blessings Val
274 | What are the implications's of this v.? | John 1:1 | Val | 211791
Dear Robert, have you studied the bible for yourself or are you only reporting what someone has told you about the bible?
275 | Same question | John 1:1 | Val | 211793
Robert, please mark your followup questions as a note rather than a new question. A thorough observation of the book of Hebrews is warranted by your question. You will only be satisfied when you have studied the book for yourself and discover the answers to your questions as you slow down and use a bible dictionary and cross references to understand the verse in question. It is only after thorough observation can an interpretation be made. You are asking for the interpretation first without doing the leg work yourself. I notice you have been on this topic for some time now. Its time to get down to some serious personal bible study. Welcome to the forum and I hope you take this exhortation in a way that points you to know Christ and His word better. Blessings, Val

277 | what does the darkness refer to? | John 1:5 | Val | 194726
John is using figurative speech here. The Lord Jesus is the Light. "A metaphor is an implied comparison between two things which are different...." " An example is John 6:48 where the Lord Jesus says, "I am the bread of life." Looking at John 1:4 "In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men." Then look at John 1:12 "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, John 1:13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God." Looking at John 1:10 "He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. John 1:11 He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him." Therefore those who did not receive Him are still in darkness. I would say darkness in this context is the world system that is under Satan's control. Eph 2:1 "And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, Eph 2:2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience." The Lord Jesus came to rescue us and deliver us out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. Reading on in John you see that John admonishes us to walk as children of light not as children of darkness. |

Dear stoneslinger, It is my understanding that the miracles the Lord done were to show that He was who He said He was. We see this in His message to John the Baptist when John was in prison. We see how this particular miracle came about when we look at the manners and customs of weddings of this time period. Timing is important for the Lord did everything according to will of the Father. Since He did this for His mother I personally believe it shows His great love for her. Perhaps His answer to her showed her that His miracles would not be something that could be asked for again. They would be done in His timetable. When the scriptures do not explictly explain something or the event is not covered in cross references, anything outside of the written word is speculation. We should always remember that when we read what people say about scripture. That is why we should study scripture for ourselves so we will know exactly what scripture says and what goes beyond scripture. Blessings, Val |
