181 | Justification? | Rom 2:13 | Scribe | 86124
This might be a helpful insight. First of all Romans 2:13 is speaking of the one that is trying to make his boast in the Law, saying he is righteous because he keeps the Law. In the context Paul is speaking to those that think that because they are Jews and have grown up hearing the law that they are special and accepted by God rather than the gentiles, and Paul tells them it is not the hearing of the Law that would make you just but the doing, in other words, They would have to do the Law before they could make that boast, and they have all failed already so they can't "go there" either. Now as to James, He is not talking about the LAW or the works of the Law. Many have taken up the case of this "seeming" contradictin between James and Paul. Even Luther had a hard time accepting James as canonical because of this. (Which shows how Luther was not always so sharp) All you have to do is look at the context and you see James gave an example of the kind of "works" his is referring to. James 2:16-17 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone... It is not the law he is speaking of but the faith that produces fruit. Or as John the Baptist preached to the Pharisees, "Bring forth fruit meet for repentance" And Paul said.. faith which worketh by love. So Paul and James were always in agreement about true faith, Paul also taught that the TRUE Grace of God teaches something.. and what is that? Titus 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; So just becuase men and yes even "reformers" have had a hard time accepting it, True Faith, and True Grace demands True Repentance that bears fruit, and God will not have it any other way. Even now the axe is laid into the root of the trees, and every plant (that's me and you) that does not bear fruit will be hewn down and thrown in the fire," But such were some of you, now you are justified, and as a result you will be bearing fruit and showing it by your Love works, and if not, examine yourself whether you be in the True faith or just a fasle security of mans making. |

182 | Who are YOU? | Rom 3:3 | Scribe | 86577
Might I add that when we ask James' bones.. "Who are you"? The answer will not come from the analysis of the text upon the crypt, but the answer will be given in that day.. when the voice of the archangel, and the trump of God is heard.. Then if those bones belong to the author of James, they will be gathered where ever they lie and in any condition they are in, even if atomically dissolved, and they will be glorified into a new body that will never die, this is the answer to "who are you" that my dead bleached bones will give you as well. And in that day will be manifested "who are the sons of god" and who were not. May God Bless you as you study His Word. |

184 | Imputed sin vs. sin nature-the same? | Rom 5:12 | Scribe | 63513
Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: The idea of all being sinners is not hard for us to understand. Because we are well aware of the fact tha all have sinned. Now consider this last part of the verse and read it again. Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: for that all have sinned, in other words death passed upon all becuase all have sinned. We all know that babies go to heaven. So it is obvious to us that though they have inherited a sin cursed form of the perfected body soul and mind originally created; that imperfection that is part of them (getting sick, etc); they are still considered innocent of sin as in that definition of sin called "sin is the transgression of the law" they are going to heaven and their salvation is bought by the redemptive work of the Cross even thought they do not have the conscience to act upon it. Romans 8:19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. It is possible that the ideas of "sin nature" have become a little more mystical than they need be. The idea of man being born imperfect into an imperfect world that was ruined and ravaged by death on degradation and that all nature is cursed with this downward trend toward death from the moment we are born is the idea. When it says all have sinned it means that every person that lived long enough to choose between the good and evil has choosen evil. Some did repent and learned how to choose good even in the OT but they all choose evil at some point. A baby that has not yet reached the age of knowing to choose good or evil; (and there is such an age) Isaiah 7:16 For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings. if the baby dies before this time, they are not judged as sinners who resisted the Spirit of God on their conscience.. Genesis 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. They are coverd by the Grace of God and the Work of Christ to "redeem man from the curse" so that they also inherit that perfect body and perfect redemption, that those that are old enough to put faith in Christ can choose by faith. |

185 | Legalism? | Rom 7:6 | Scribe | 86126
Legalism is not a word found in the Bible that I know of. It is nevertheless a biblical topic. The effort of men to be declared justified by the works of the Law is spoken of at length by Paul. Legalism is a difficult word to define in a short sentence or two, but I will try to do so and then give the scriptures that tell me this. In my opinion and I am sure that I have not fully defined it by saying this: Legalism is that attempt by man to appease his smitten guilty conscious with a religious effort of some type that takes many forms but all have this same objective which is to relieve the conscious even if the relief is only temporary. Isaiah 28:9-13 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken. |

186 | spirit led | Rom 8:14 | Scribe | 63510
Romans 8:13-14 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. From this passage we can conclude that whatever else being led by the Spirit might include it certainly has to do with resisting sin or resisting the lusts of the flesh. The Spirit leads men to resist sin, the enemy leads him to "go ahead and jump." Luke 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Luke 4:9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: The Spirit leads all men to follow after righteousnes.. the flesh man will resist the Spirit and follow after flesh.. the spiritual man, he who has been born again and learned to identify his flesh as crucified with Christ will submit to the Spirit. Genesis 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man,... Yes even these unregenerate men before the Flood were said to have had the Spirit of God striving to get them to turn from their fleshly ways. Being led by the Spirit is therefore listenting to that voice in the conscience, for the sinner but for the saint it is a regenerated conscience which has a heart to not only hear but to obey... Isaiah 30:21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. |

188 | is there god's law of succession? | Rom 9:16 | Scribe | 88188
You may already understand this, but if you do not I will take the time to explain that this Forum is for the purpose of posting Questions and receiving answers supported by scripture on what the Bible says. Therefore there would be several follow up questions I would ask before I would understand your question. Do you mean what was the Old Testament Jewish Law given by God to Israel concerning the succession of the Levitical Priesthood? Or how did God choose Judges in the OT before there were Kings. Or what was the law of birthright as it relates to the Hebrews. Or what is God's Plan for appointing Pastors in local New Testament Churches? If you want to know how a leader is appointed today in a New Testament Church, the bible declares that God Calls men to the ministry of the Word of God. You can look at almost every first verse or first few passages of Pauls Letters and see him declare this fact. There are many scriptures on how men are called. I will some scriptures after this explanation. How God Chooses a Pastor of a church after one pastor goes on to be with the Lord, or is called to do another work, is first and formost a call of God on anothe man's life who through prayer knows that is God's Will for them, then they will also have gifts of the Holy Spirit that demonstrate they are called, in some congregations they vote for the next pastor, but they are taught to vote only on those that qualify. There is no such thing in the Christian church of a man lording it over a flock and then when he passes giving the rulership to his son. There is no such thing as the son of the pastor Inheriting the pastorship by "birth right". If you are hearing of such a teaching in the church today I would call that a cult and run for my life. If that is the case that church is built by man and not by God. A true church will continue growing into the image of Christ whether the pastor that started it moves on or not, passing the leadership to the biological son might occur if the son is called by God and gifted by God to pastor, and always a holy life is required. The fact that a son of a pastor takes over after the senior pastor is gone, is more a testimony of the son being raised up in an environment to heed the call to ministry when it came. There is no such thing in the christian church of inheriting a call of God. You are called by God not as a result of who your father was but simply because God calls and gifts you for that purpose. Some sons of pastors are not called and some pastors try to fit their sons in that mold, it makes life miserable for the son and an embarrasment to the pastor. May God Bless You as You Study His Word. Ephesians 4:11-13 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: |

189 | Faith apart from reading the Bible? | Rom 10:17 | Scribe | 41908
Steve I agree with you. You are much more biblical in your understanding than those that would say you have to have read it in the bible first. I beleive that God is faithful to bring a Bible or preachers of the Bible to an honest seeker but I too had faith in Jesus Christ when as yet I had not read the Bible. I was in jail. I was crying out for God to change my life. I had this much knowledge. 1) I knew I was living a loser of a lifestyle, that I was not a good person. 2) That God still loved me , (I admit I had heard that somewere) 3) that if you pray God will help you. I prayed and prayed I was in spiritual turmoil, no rest for my soul After many days, I heard a man pray over his food in jest "God bless the mess! In Jesus Name!" I knew he was being irreverant, but when he said "In Jesus Name!" It was as if a flood light came on in my heart! I got on my knees and ask the Lord to change my life and get me a Bible IN JESUS NAME, and I believed He heard me. The next day I was moved to a place where I could get a Bible and while I waited for the delivery of the Bible I found some torn out pages of the book of James on the floor. That became my Bible for several weeks and it was what I needed to start my life of sanctification in Christ. May God Bless you All. |

190 | OT practices not followed today? | Rom 14:5 | Scribe | 58828
Romans 14:5-6 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks. Good Question. The New Testament had much to say about how such things as all meats were indeed clean and the message behind the dietery laws was the point, though in thier blindness they never did get it. The Truth has now come which is Jesus Christ and our personal relationship with Him. Sin is still around and we must resist it but we do so by the more obvious methods of not "eating unclean things" such as watching ungodly TV shows that fill our minds with sexual lusts, or not "touching the unclean things" such as living in sexual sins, alcohol, anger wrath, pride, and other sins of the flesh. The blind man will not eat pork but will sleep with a new girlfriend every few months. The blind Jew will keep laws that are convienient to give him a sense of legal obligations yet not ones that he considers too much of a drudgery or ones that might be impractical. The reason some Jews who do not believe in Jesus will keep some Laws and not others is that they have been emboldened to approach their religion this way through false teachings in the Talmud going back to the time of Christ and built upon so that they keep "for the law of God" the traditions of men. These traditions have changed the Law of God to make it more palatible to the people and more beneficial to the teachers (such as monetary giving). The Lord will not accept it and they will all be ashamed in the end. The honest one how really attempts to keep all the law will end up having faith in Jesus as the fulfillment of the Law. |

191 | biblical reason for todays mondern toung | 1 Cor 1:7 | Scribe | 63319
I am answering this question over a year after it has been posted. It is very unlikely that the original poster will read it but I am going to address it carefully with biblical evidence as the poster requested in an effort to help build this wonderful database of biblical interpretations from fellow believers from all over the world. Looking at the text tecnotrog is referencing we see a peculiar scene... Acts 2:4-13 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine. Several things are obvious here at first glance.. one is that more than the 12 were speaking, since more than 12 languages are mentioned. Most commentaries I look at agree that outpouring of the Spirit was upon the entire 120 and not just the 12 apostles (Acts 1:15...number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,) most also agree that all of them were doing the speaking in tongues. However some commentators and many modern christians say that they think that only the 12 did the public speaking in tongues when the crowds gathered. In reading the passage we see that there are more than 12 nations that heard them speak in their own language. Therefore if it were only the 12 speaking then they must have had such a gift of speaking in tongues that one or more of them could move from one known language to another as the Spirit willed. Or another possibility would be that the hearers were having the miracle upon their ears so that it would not matter how many nations were gathered 17 or 200 they would have all heard their own language. Some have suggested this and let us take it up for a moment. If it did not matter how many nations had gathered, that they would still have heard their own language, then the question would have to be asked which language was coming out of the speaker? One particular language or whatever the Lord wanted at the time? If the miracle happened upon the ear of the hearer than it does not seem fair to conclude that one could know which language the speaker was speaking. One could say he was speaking Arabic, but another that just walked up says nay he is speaking my tongue which is of Egypt. Who is right? And if this be the case then how can you know when you hear a tongue whether it is a known language or not. Here are two from another country both hearing their own language from the same speaker. Now if that is not the case then you must say that one of the 12 was able to speak one language and then instantly start speaking another. If we limit it to only the 12 then one of these two scenarios must be correct, 1) that the miracle occurred on the ear of the more than 12 nations that gathered, or 2) that the speaker could switch tongues, because more than more 12 nations heard their tongue. The other possibility of course is that all 120 were speaking and not just the 12 in which case one could then make an argument for their stand that authentic speaking in tongues is always in a known language, while siting this passage as their biblical evidence. Now we consider the verse.. Acts 2:13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine. What are the possibilities here? 1) these men heard them speak in languages that were known, the disciples having never learned them in language school.. and said “they are drunk” Instantly we see how illogical that view would be. The last thing I am going to think if I see you speak in a language you have never taken the time to learn, (and especially if I hear them speak in more than one language they had never learned), is that you are drunk. I might think you are a genious, nay more than a genious, a superman, one with intellect beyond any man that had ever been before.. but I am not going to think your inebriated with alcohol. 192 | Is smoking a sin? | 1 Cor 3:16 | Scribe | 56051
I think you will get different answers. The main point would be to allow God to have total control of your life. If you know that God wants you to quit then you can have faith that God will help you. I can tell you from experience that I went through the same question when I was saved. I smoked for several months before I even thought about whether smoking was a sin or not. I was born again and still smoked. There came a point in my spiritual growth within a few months when I realized God was convicting me of this unhealthy habit so I began to pray about quiting. To make a long story short the Lord taught me some great truths about resisting sin. In a nutshell I learned that I needed to be willing to suffer in the flesh to cease from sin. I told the Lord that I would suffer withdrawal of nicotine even to to point of death than to deliberately sin against him and grieve His heart with known sin. I went through a week of withdrawal and then I found the smell of ciggarettes very irritating and obnoxious. God will deliver you if you are willing to suffer for Him. This is how we should live for the Lord. Is sexual temptation strong for you? Then be willing to suffer the denial of yielding to it even to the point of death.. what will happen? You will get victory over it and it will become offensive to you outside of marriage. Name any type of sin, if you are willing to suffer in the flesh to cease from it, you will soon be free and strong in that area of your life. Only those that keep yielding to it stay addicted. God Bless you as you follow Him. |

193 | based on 1 Corinthians 5 | 1 Cor 5:5 | Scribe | 104753
Wow. What a refreshing post. Willing2change4ic you're desire for change is from the Lord and evidence that God is working in a mighty way in your life. And as the Lord convicts you with His Holy Spirit of Love and goodness you find you are more and more miserable when indulging in the flesh. The Lord is faithful to make you miserable so that you will be through sinning and seek to know the Lord in righteousness and faithfulness. 1 Corinthians 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. Better for us to flee from sins of the flesh but if after we have known the goodness of the Lord and walked in the light of salvation, if we return to the carnal appetites of the flesh, we find out two truths very quickly. 1) we are not past sinning. And 2) though it may bring a temporary pleasure even that is not the same as it used to be and we are miserable even while indulging. If we keep it up the Lord will allow the powers of darkness to bring desctructions into our lives to discipline us. There is no need to experience that. Your own misery drives you to the cross for forgiveness and repentance. Your own desire to walk with God and know his light and life in fulness makes you not able to go all the way into sin. So you may fall and indulge, but if you repent and cry out to God in repentance, He will hear and deliver you from your own appetites. Do not despair. Though you might feel despair, shame and as if you have gone too far to ever be used by God, remember that you can be set free by His Grace. You can walk in holiness consistantly. You can have victory over ever vice. What once seemed to revisit you every few months can be something that never rises again so long as you live. The Lord is able to do this. All you have to do is believe and call upon him with fervent faith. Tell the Lord that you will not give up. Tell Him you believe He is able and you refuse to doubt it. After all what choice do you have? If you return the way of sin.. You will regret it. You know you will.. there is no peace nor happiness there.. Since you know you will regret it, everytime you fall, the next time you are tempted, just say.. This time I am going to say no, it is not worth the regret that I know will come, before the day is over or even the sin is finished I will be in regret, but if I choose to obey I will experience joy. Joy is far better, I will live a life without regret. God bless you willing2. You are going to make it and you are going to overcome. |

194 | What is "perfect" in 1 Cor. 13:8-12? | 1 Cor 13:12 | Scribe | 46753
1 Corinthians 13:10-12 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. The context makes it clear that it is talking about when we see Him face to face. Now whether it is talking about when you die and go to be with Him or when He comes again to wrap everything up and usher us into that eternal reality of the Hope we have is a question, but I think it is more likely that Promise of eternal perfection of the restoration of all things that Paul is speaking about. He is saying it as if everyone knows what he is talking about based on well established theology which would not be death so much as it would be the eternal promise of Glory in Christ. Now here is something that those who would try and fit the writing of the Bible into this passage. "Now we know in part." Paul the Holy Spirit inspired writer knows only in part. By the time John finished Revelation Paul was dead. And so Paul did not find the promise of knowing all things or the "then face to face" at the completion of Revelation becuase he was not here. As wonderful and perfect as the Scriptures are, we still know in part. And what we do know causes us to look longingly for Him to come and make us to know all things in Him. God Bless you as you Study His Word. |

195 | How do you interpret this verse? | 1 Cor 14:2 | Scribe | 53840
Wow, how blashphemous. This is the depth of intellectual dishonesty some are willing to go out of fear of the Gifts of the Spirit. Would he say Paul was guilty of this paganism, since Paul said in this Chapter, "I speak in tongues more than ye all" and "forbid not to speak in tongues" This type of interpretation is beneath commenting on because the person doing it could not possibly believe it to be true in the context of the passage. It must be an attempt to slander the Holy Spirit Gifts and that is a very dangerous thing. I never try to convince someone who does not want to learn about tongues but I always feel God's anger at an atempt to change the word to teach somehthing that would slander what the saints did in Acts. It is one thing to say you think it does not happen today. It is quite another to say what the apostles did was "not of God". When a preacher does that he seems to be lining up with the Pharisees. |

196 | What is praying in the spirit? | 1 Cor 14:14 | Scribe | 85772
1 Corinthians 14:14-15 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? To pray in the spirit in this context is to pray in tongues. |

197 | "Speaking in tongues"? | 1 Cor 14:15 | Scribe | 43658
The reason some churches believe in speaking in tongues is that they have taken the stand that the Bible is true. That God put the subject in the Bible for a reason. That if some use it wrong or some would make it up should not steer away the honest heart from wanting to know what God wanted us to know about it. Christians should reject anything about tongues that is not in the Bible. But a christian that wants to know what God thinks should embrace everything about tongues that is in the Bible. I never bother trying to persuade someone to believe in tongues, I don't see any scriptural evidence for preaching that way. I only teach those that believe in the gift in tongues as written in the scriptures. I will teach on the purposes of God behind giving the gift to the church as seen in the scripture. It is there for a reason. I only try to know and make known the revealed reason as seen in the scripture. I am careful not to attempt to persuade a person that does not believe tongues is real for fear of having the precious gifts of the Holy Spirit as written about in the scriptures maligned or spoken against. If someone had not made up thier minds and wants to know why God put it in the Bible I will gladly bring out all the scriptures on it and show them the big picture. But if they are adamently opposed to tongues I am careful not to attempt this. |

198 | Can you learn to pray in the Spirit? | 1 Cor 14:15 | Scribe | 85983
1 Corinthians 14:14-15 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. Sticking to the Word of God as our final authority, we must declare that praying with the spirit is speaking in tongues. Can you learn to speak in tongues? No Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:6-8 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? The 120 in the upper room did not learn how to speak in tongues, the just started speaking them. Can you also recieve this gift? Yes. Acts 2:33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. Acts 2:38-39 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. And that is God's Word on the Subject. This type of praying with the Spirit in tongues all believers can have, but when Paul says "do all speak in tongues" he is referring to the speaking outloud with another with the gift of interpretation in the public church meeting. Not all will do that or should becuase it would be confusion, and so he says if there is no interpreter let him pray to himself and God (in tongues) which means that they all could pray with the spirit in tongues but not all of them should speak outloud as to the whole congregation in tongues at the same time, or without waiting for the interpretation. |

199 | How do you test prophecy ? | 1 Cor 14:31 | Scribe | 86887
1 Corinthians 14:29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. 1 Corinthians 14:31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. The type of prophesying you are speaking of would be the type we read of in I Corinthians 14, which I am sure you know is not limited to the presbytery, however they indeed should be an example of it's proper usage. We judge all things according the Word of God,and it would be not different when judging prophecy. Some will mention the OT test of a false prophet or a true prophet based on whether what they say will come to pass. This does not apply to the I corinthians 14 chapter or I should say "new testament" prophet and prophesy which never was after the order of the OT prophets. The OT prophets ended with John the baptist, and the OT prophets that prophesied false things to lead people astray and pretend to be of the same calling as Elijah, or Isaiah, were to be tested, they that said that Israel would prosper, while Isaiah was saying judgement was coming, were exposed as false soon enough. The new testament prophesy is not and never was given to write scripture or to take the place of scripture, the apostle Paul would ask us to judge what is said in the light of scripture. If it is not doctrinally correct, forget about it. But look at the purpose Paul gives for new testament prophecy in the church... 1 Corinthians 14:31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. It will be most identified with bringing comfort. If someone is prophesying over you promises that are already contained in God's Word, it is comforting and there is nothing to fear about receiving such a prophesy. What is the purpose? God will lead someone to give you a scriptual word of encouragement that will help you in something you are going through or about to go through. If it does not make sense to you, or you cannot say it is NOT scriptural, just shelf it and don't worry about it. If it was meant for you then you will be reminded by the Lord latter and it will be a comfort. If it is flaky like.. "you are going to get a visit from Michael the archangel.." then just leave. And don't go back. No presbyter should be so immature. That is not a seasoned pastor but a novice. |

200 | "women keep silent in the churches" | 1 Cor 14:34 | Scribe | 58825
As you stated the context about keeping silent in reference to asking questions disorderly is correct. To go beyond that is to make up your own anti-women doctrine not support by the context. I do not mean you personally but anyone that attempts to teach more than what is said here. Paul used the same terminology when he said ... 1 Corinthians 14:28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.... and again... 1 Corinthians 14:30 If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. The same greek words and the same context so if a person would launch out on a "women cannot speak in the ministry gifts in the church false teaching" then it seems that there is just as much here to say a man cannot speak either. For twice the pronoun "He" is told to keep silent in the church and only once it says a woman should keep silent. So it seems to me that if you cannot understand the context based on "give place" or silence as in "yield the floor" or "do not disrupt" then you would at least apply the same error of heurmeneutics for the man that was told to keep silent in the church as well. I am being ludicrous to make the point that the instruction is that the women stop being disruptive.. not a ban on women in ministry. Here is proof that women were accepted in the new testament church as both teachers and ministers... Acts 21:9-11 And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy. And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus. And when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles. This shows that in meeting together the women did operate in these gifts and it was a blessing to the body. May you also experience the edification that comes when all saints, both men and women allow the Spirit of God to operate through them in the mutual edification that comes only when we meet together corporately and let God have control. Romans 1:12 That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me. |
