341 | I need an explanation of chapter 37 | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 109972
To what book of the Bible are you referring? It would also probably be helpful to specify which verses.
342 | The number 3, what does it signify? | Matt 1:1 | Rowdy | 109965
I'm afriad you're going to have to give us more to go on. What is the context of your question? What are the circumstances that are motivating you to ask such an unusual question?
343 | Visiting the neighbors. | 1 Tim 5:13 | Rowdy | 109963
There's several verses in Proverbs, making it very clear that God hates gossiping. But the scripture above makes it very clear. If that doesn't do the trick, you may resort to harsher means. It depends on how much this person's friendship means to you, hopefully NOT more than your relationship with God. I assume you might already know some little bit of truth about her background, something she's not particularly proud to share with everybody. Remind her that she wouldn't appreciate someone's sharing that with the whole neighborhood. Remind her that we're all human and have made mistakes in our lives. (Some of us, bigger than others; I know because I've made some whoppers.) As a last resort, you may have to warn her that her continued gossiping with you might have to cost her the friendship you share and you would appreicate if she would stop. I'm afraid that's all I can offer for advice. God be with you and be strong for Him. |

344 | candidates for water baptism | NT general Archive 1 | Rowdy | 109960
I can only describe what I do and those with whom I worship. Since we don't have the Holy Spirit's baptism of miraclous powers to help us, we have to get to know the person(s) in question. Form that close of bond of friendship, real friendship, the kind that let's them know we really have their soul's interest at heart. Find out what they know of the scriptures and what they already believe. You may remember, each of the example of saving people in the Bible starts with the person where they're at. Apollos, for instance already believed in God but was teaching John the Baptist baptism so he needed to be corrected. Anyway, after confirming and teaching as necessary God's plan of salvation, it's just a matter of time until that new disciple of God is ready to commit his whole life to Christ as his savior and Lord. It might be mentioned here, it's also a good idea to recite the Lord's caution about the sacrifice of this decision, and the fact that this new babe in Christ will face the very real possibility of ridicule and maybe even persecution, especially in another country. Until this process is completed, that is until he/she makes that committment, they're not able to be added to the Lord's church as we see demonstrated through the Book of Acts and the NT. But that doesn't mean we stop loving them, we just have to wait in accordance with God's time-table. We plant the seed and let God provide for the ultimate fruit within. Good question and God bless. |

345 | Is marriage necessary? | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 109882
If you mean to ask Bible students and to get a Bible based answer, it's important to recognize the most powerful and ultimately the decisive answer is God's from His Word. Now, mind you, I'm assuming you and all others reading this are truly and absolutely dedicated to going home to Heaven with God for eternity. Then, that presupposes that person is going to obey God and His instructions in His Word. You see, our first priority relationship is with God the Father and then with our fellow christians. Now of course, the next smart step for a man or woman is to find a mate with whom they can look forward to going to Heaven, for it's far easier if your spouse is there in your corner and your best soul-mate. After you've concluded that a particular person meets that criteria, it's always best to be quite certain so this decision should be slow in coming. Now this next point might be controversial but this is what I think: the only way we're going to truly please God is to make that firm committment and get married in the sight of both God and man, meeting the full requirements of the law. God has put a blessing on the proper and sincere governments across our world. We should do everything in our power to honor that blessing. If we're going to live in a particular nation and enjoy the benefits and bear the responsibilities of that nation, then we should be willing to follow the customs, laws, etc of that nation, including that of marriage. But remember with God, marriage was intended from the beginning to be a life-long proposition and above all, we do want to go to Heaven. Another big benefit of following God's plan my wife and I have noticed in our marriage: God's Word is a wonderful and perfect referee when needed. When both husband and wife are committed to going to the same Heavenly desitnation and constantly look up to God, it tends to reduce looking aside and arguing about the petty concerns thrown at us from the world about us. Another benefit to be considered is the example we set for our kids and our grandkids. It's difficult to explain the really big mistakes in your life; I know, I've tried. Remember we will MOST DEFINITELY reap what we sow. God bless you all. |

346 | Trim their lamps? | Matt 25:7 | Rowdy | 109872
I'd like to think that our spiritual relationship with God, our Father is something like a journey. I love the poem, Footprints in the Sand. Too often we see ourselves as being self-sufficient and not needing God but then we stumble and fall and sometimes we don't even know it. Thanks be to God, He picks up and carries us. But back to your question, our relationship with God takes constant maintenance, self-inspection and occasional kick in the pants to keep us humble. You might say we need to trim our equipment (our soul) so the light of God can shine through us. His light can't shine through very well if we take away people's attention from Him and insist they pay attention to us instead. Just like the adage goes, anything of value takes work to maintain that value. Our relationship with God is incredibly precious and if we expect God or His Son to claim us as family, we must keep up that relationship, abide in His Word and do all we can to glorify Him in this world. Tell me, what do you think it means? |

347 | "Jesus Is God" and Christian History | Rom 3:21 | Rowdy | 109440
The quote below from Rom 3 is useful as follows: 21But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement,[9] through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished-- 26he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. 27Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith. 28For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law. 29Is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, 30since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith. 31Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law. In addition to the above, I'd like to add: a brief synopsis of the Bible. First, God was rejected in the Garden of Eden by Adam and Eve but they really represented all of mankind because no one could have done any better. Second, Christ was rejected by the world when he was put on the cross and you and I do it all over again every day we don't live an absolutely perfect life. So, third and last, the Holy Spirit has come in the form of God's Word or the Bible. If we reject it, nothing more can be said or done for that person. We all know where he/she is headed. I think there's some scripture somewhere saying this same thing but I can't recall it. So, as you can see Jesus Christ is a very, very vital part of this whole proceess. And more than that he is our High Priest. His blood is the only thing that keeps us safe from the wrath of God. I hope all this is clear. God bless. |

348 | acts 1:1, I don't know the scripture | Acts 2:41 | Rowdy | 109435
I don't know of any scripture that would support this practice. As a matter of fact, it seems to go counter to the general tenor of the Bible in that we should treat all God's family members the same, at least as much as possible. This practice would seem to foster an atmosphere of putting that person under the microscope which I can't condone at all. |

349 | end of world and end of age | Matt 12:32 | Rowdy | 109402
In my opinion, the only view that makes sense in keeping with the context is the contrast Christ is depicting between this physical world we live in and the next spiritual world we'll live in after this world is destroyed. Another interesting side note for those interested in "secret things" surrounding Christ and His ministry is portrayed in verses 16-20, same chapter. Check it out, it was prophesied that Christ would be this way. Good question. God bless. |

350 | Ephesians 2:9-10 Good works ? | Rom 1:15 | Rowdy | 109339
I think Jesus gave us the best answer with the parable of the Good Samaritan. Whenever we find something that needs doing, we're supposed to do it and give the glory to God. Forget about getting the praise of men. Remember, if that's what you're after, that's all you'll get. Each one of us has a conscience and it whispers to us all the time "I really should have done that thing/task with a little more kindness or thoughtfulness." "I could have done a better job of preparing a certain thing at work so as to allow my fellow workers more time to do their thing in response." Everything we do should be done if it were our last day on earth. We really should take WWJD more seriously than just wearing a braclet. If we did, this world would be a better place to live in. What do you think? God bless. |

351 | what did God mean | 1 Sam 15:11 | Rowdy | 109336
I can only surmise it was the same kind of regret indicated just before he destroyed the world by water and saved only Noah and his family. You're probably alluding to the seeming contradiction: if God did it then why would he regret doing it if He truly is God. That's a mystery. But notice we have the same problem. We humans bring children into this world and sometimes we regret it. Like my dad says, our children can bring us great joy and sometimes they can bring about grievous amount of pain and sadness. This too will probably be one of those questions we'll all be anxious to ask God upon being seated at the throne of God in heaven. Hope to see ya there. |

352 | What is the "NAME" of that church...? | Acts 2:44 | Rowdy | 109321
The Bible gives a few names: the Church, the Church of Christ, the Church of the Firstborn, the Church of God, the Church of the Lamb. I think there's a few others but can't recall but the most important thing is that the Bible (NT) is referring to one church, on a world-wide scale. It's up to you and me to find it, we have to identify what characteristics make up the church as described in God's Word. A person could compare this search to looking for a grocery store or some other kind of business establishment upon moving to a new city and home. I realize this is greatly simplified but if you read and study God's Word and are absolutely devoted to finding like people of the same precious faith, I'm sure you'll find them. God will bless you for being perseverant. |

353 | what does bible say about homosexuality | Lev 18:22 | Rowdy | 109304
1 Cor 6 is very plain and easy to understand as follows: 9Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. Also see Romans 1. Since the beginning as cited Genesis, God has always hated this kind of wickedness as shown in the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. But that doesn't mean that we are to hate the sinner, it means that we as christians should hate the sin and do everything in our power to help and encourage the sinner to see the error of his/her ways and repent. This process of getting the sinner to repent might take several months, several years or possibly a lifetime. We have to be patient, loving and kind, maybe even persistant in reminding them that we still love them and care for them. Let them know we're praying for them but we can't afford to compromise God's word. I'll pray for both of you and hope that all of your friends (hopefully christians) will pray with you as prayer is your most powerful allay. God bless you during this trial. |

354 | Did David disobey? | 1 Kin 3:14 | Rowdy | 109220
I think the final summation by the Apostle Paul in Acts 13:22 is most useful. 22After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: 'I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.' We have to remember the most difficult thing for us as humans to do for our God is keep a contrite and humble heart and attitude, completely submissive to God in all things we say and do. Every hour of lives need to be this way and when we fail we have to repent. We can never hope to get past this constant habit of repenting every day so we're covered for the sins of omission as well as those as commission. Otherwise, we approach Judgement Day on very dangerous ground. Yes, David committed many grievous sins and apparently left undone many good things he should have done with his Son, Absolam. But he tried his best and apparently he died with a good conscience before meeting his maker. We see the same kind of contrast between Judas and Peter. Both of these disciples committed grievous acts against our Lord but He was willing to forgive them both. Judas never recovered from his stumble whereas Peter went on and delivered the first Gospel sermon. Praise the Lord. If we as God's creation could only follow the GOOD examples we're given, this world would be a better place. Tell me what you think. God bless you in your studies. Interesting personal file you got there, sounds like a full life. |

355 | Was sin meant to be? | Rom 3:23 | Rowdy | 109201
I think when He created us, our Lord knew that we would get ourselves into trouble. He created within us a freedom to choose and a lust to be individuals and set our own paths. It's part of what makes us human. He created this world to be beautiful and tempting to our senses. Yes, indeed our God knew we were headed for a lifetime of sin for all of us, since the beginning of time to its end. That's the wonderful aspect of His creation: when we finally grow up and realize all this and still turn to Him, He glories in our praise, worship and devotion. If we have any doubt, one only needs to check out Rom 3 as follows: 22This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God bless in your new relationship with God. Keep studying the Word. |

356 | is this a second coming verse | Matt 16:28 | Rowdy | 109197
In my opinion, this propechy is fulfilled with Acts 2, the proverbial middle of the Bible. Most everything before points (with future tense) to the establishment of the kingdom. Most everything after this scripture points (with past tense) back to the establishment this same kingdom.
357 | Help | Luke 3:21 | Rowdy | 109084
21When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened 22and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased." Here you have all 3: 1) Jesus in the water, 2) God doing the speaking and approving with 3) the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove. Need I say more. |

358 | buildikng on the rock | Matt 7:24 | Rowdy | 109075
I really don't understand why you're asking the question as the verse itself gives the answers but in most of Jesus' parables he would preface them a phrase like "The Kingdom of Heaven is like." In this verse He means the same as with Kingdom of Heaven, He's simply referring to all people world-wide, past, present and future who are genuinely interested in God and His priorities. |

359 | Amos 6-7 repentance relented | Amos | Rowdy | 109073
The main message of Amos is the same as most of the minor prophets. God was trying to send a message telling his Israelite children he wanted their obedience rather than their artificial piety and token sacrifices. God's relenting just meant He was willing once again to grant mercy and forgiveness in spite of His repeated promises of their reaping what they had sown. I don't really see any good in keeping count of the number of times God did this. Thanks be to God, He continues to be patient and merciful with us in spite of our nation going the other way. In spite of our taking prayer out of schools and love for justice out of our court system, putting up with corruption in our government and blessing homosexuals in our society. Hopefully, our country will continue re-discovering God and the pendulem will go back the other direction. If we continue following the footsteps of the Roman Empire, we're certain to face the same end result. Looking over my words just now, I seem to sound like a doomsday prophet but then I'm sure that's how the minor prophets sounded to Israel. Will we take heed of God's warnings? Will we learn from our own world's history or are we doomed to repeat it? Only God knows. Maybe if we all pray for mercy and repent for our children's sake. God bless. |

360 | What is a Father/son relationship | Gen 1:26 | Rowdy | 109070
I'm not sure how to answer your question without some clarification. Are we talking about a physical, biological relationship? Or possibly spiritual? Maybe adoption? In all these relationships, the father hopes to pass on some of his wisdom and experience to his son, and thus save his son from some of the grief that comes from living in this world. In the same way, our God and Father would like to bring us home but first we have to grow up and give up our addiction for this world and its pretty distractions with it. We can only partially understand what He's got in mind for us just as our earthly fathers have for their young sons. In my opinion, this way of bringing children into the world is the nearest way we mortals can get to creation, thus you can understand my reason for this comparison. If you can elaborate on your question, maybe my future response will be more well suited with specifics. Let me know. |
