561 | John5:1-9 "Do you want to get well?" | John 5:6 | Mommapbs | 54009
Greetings! It really isn't a ridiculous question, it is one we must all wrestle with. The REAL question is: what are we desperate for? Jesus knew that this man had positioned himself there for a LONG time. Don't you think if he REALLY wanted to get better he would have devised a WAY to enter the waters? You see, in his condition, he had to have all his needs met by others, yet it appears from Jesus' question that he had become complacent and comfortable with this "dependency." Another thing to consider: Jesus might have perceived that the man really didn't believe that the stirring of the waters would heal him. Note how he makes "excuses" for himself in verse 7, as if to say "It's not MY fault." In essence, I think that Jesus was presenting a challenge to his faith. I recognize that I may reap a firestorm for my statement . . . but this may be an example where Jesus healed to demonstrate that healing is NOT dependent upon man's faith but God's will! Is your last question "Why is it difficult to believe we can change?" Frankly, I believe that I cannot change, but God alone CAN and DOES change me! Blessings, Mommapbs |

562 | Does Paul contradict Jesus? | John 6:70 | Mommapbs | 70975
Greetings Cheryl - The word "brother" is the key to understanding this seemingly contradictory verse. This references an individual who professes to be a believer in Jesus, however as Paul notes, the individual is living a life that is contrary to God's standands. I suspect that Paul assumes that the Lord's prescribed method for correction and discipline (Matthew 18) have already been carried out at this point, so he reaffirms Jesus' instructions. We are supposed to exercize discipline within the family of God. See Matthew 18:17 Just as Jesus welcomed sinners (we are ALL sinners - sin is sin; it has no degree in God's economy!), we are to welcome all those who would receive us (as bearers of the Good News)and those that don't, we are to shake the dust off our feet (Matthew 10:14. We are not to cast our pearls before swine(Matthew 7:6) Sin is toxic, people are not. I'm wondering, are you trying to avoid a relationship or someone in particular? Seems to me that you might need more help that this Forum can provide. I urge you to seek Godly counsel from someone (your Pastor or a Christian psychologist) who may be able to help you set appropriate boundaries in questionable relationships. Blessings, mommapbs PS: Henry Cloud has written an excellent book called "Boundaries" that may be of help to you. |

563 | love the NASB | John 7:8 | Mommapbs | 131586
Magnum44 - a few verses later we read that Jesus does indeed go up to the feast.(So what He has said is true, "My time has not yet fully come.") I'm a bit perplexed by the questions you ask - do I detect a "critical spirit" here? What is your intent? Are you attempting to "strain out a gnat?" mommapbs |

564 | How to overcome spiritual dryness | John 7:38 | Mommapbs | 48144
As a believers we have the "living water" but indeed we do experience periods of "spiritual dryness as you have perceived. I guess the easiest answer to this problem is to go to the Source of all solutions. When you are thirsty, go to the well and drink deeply. God knows how much you need, and if you are still "dry" you have to keep drinking! Regarding the the issue of disobedience we could look at the warnings of Jer 2:13"For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, The fountain of living waters,To hew for themselves cisterns, Broken cisterns That can hold no water." Ask God to show you if there are areas of your life where you are drawing water from your own cistern! He promises to answer - and when He does, I trust that you will be obedient to respond to His loving counsel! Hope this helps - I've been in the desert many times too! Blessings, Mommapbs |

565 | Search and see that...? | John 7:52 | Mommapbs | 84453
Seeking healing . . . from the water, not the Healer. Seeking to worship . . . for blessings not the Blessor. Finally, they truly seek the Lord when they realize that they have sought in vain. (God's promise for the future of Israel) see Dt 4:30-31 See also Jer 2:13. What did God say to you through this study? mommapbs |

566 | Man or man? | John 8:40 | Mommapbs | 71787
Greetings Ray! This is a tough one. At first glance I am inclined to say Man, for Jesus is the God-man. Without the distinction of caplitalization, would one be open to deny or question His divinity? Yet, by using "man" He clearly identifies with us and we can clearly see His sinlessness as an acceptable substitutionary sacrifice! Just some thoughts . . . Why does the Amplified capitalize Who? Blessings to you and yours! mommapbs |

567 | genesis3 v5 | John 8:44 | Mommapbs | 85552
Greetings chumbu! I'm not quite sure how this reference prompts your question, but remember who is speaking here!(The father of lies!) One thing we know from God's Word is that the man of sin can not understand the things of the Spirit - they are foolishness to him. See I Cor 1: 18-25. In fact Scripture also tells us that the god of this age (Satan) has blinded the spiritual eyes of unbelievers (2 Cor 4:4). Lastly, God's Word can only be understood as God reveals it by His Spirit. The unregenerate man does not understand the things of God because he does not have the Spirit. (2 Cor 2:9-16). God alone searches the hearts of men - do you know what He's looking for? He is looking for the presence of His Son! That's what an obedient heart looks like to God! Just some thoughts . . . Blessings, mommapbs |

568 | i want to no the truth | John 8:58 | Mommapbs | 135756
Jesus declared, "I and the Father are one." John 10:30. You claim to want to know the truth? Jesus is the Truth! He said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." John 14:6 Jesus also said, "you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." John 8:32; What is keeping your belief captive? Mosa, you have been duly answered and directed to Scripture. May Jesus reveal Himself to you there; and may you come to exclaim like Thomas did when he saw Jesus, "My Lord and my God" John 20:28 Trusting God with the outcome of your search, mommapbs |

569 | Is BeDuhn correct on John 8:58? | John 8:58 | Mommapbs | 145165
Greetings Tim - recently I have been thinking about this familiar quote: "I think, therefore I am" - which I completely disagreee with. I believe we should claim, I AM, therefore I think. (Apart from Me you can do nothing - we cannot even exist! Ps 139) I agree with your assessment of 'ego eimi' in the context of John 8. The Diety of Jesus Christ is the issue here. Everything is of God, by God and for God. We would do well to keep Him as God in all things. Blessings, mommapbs |

570 | What light was created on day one? | John 9:5 | Mommapbs | 100255
Greetings and welcome to the Forum! I don't know if "created" is the proper word, but as I read this verse and consider your question, I am reminded that God is Light - when He said, "Let there be light" I suspect that it could be the manifestion of Himself in creation. Another hint is the word good. As Jesus declared, "Only God is good." (Mark 10:18) This is JUST SPECULATION, but an interesting concept to consider: dividing of the light from the darkness . . . could this be the separation of Lucifer and his followers as a result of their rebellion? Did you notice that sun was created AFTER plants? (Gen 1:12) What does science teach us that plants need for life? Ans: sunlight. So where did the light come from for them to grow and reproduce? Ans. God, the Source of all life! mommapbs |

571 | what is the parable of the lost sheep? | John 10:16 | Mommapbs | 47843
For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost. Matthew 18:11 Jesus is the Good Shepherd - read John 10. The parable of the lost sheep is not about our relationship with others, but it is about our relationship with God. We are "lost" until we are "found" in Jesus! As we grow in our relationship with the Shepherd, we will sense the urgency of His call to the many lost sheep that are in our midst. Let's introduce the Good Shepherd to these "lost sheep" and encourage them to respond to His call! Blessings, Mommapbs |

572 | Lay down my life? Am I a shepherd? | John 10:17 | Mommapbs | 83836
"Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends." ( I would ask:What about one's enemies?) Greetings Ray! What an interesting study. Would you say that the Father loves us (approves us) when we sacrifice self for the interests of others? (Please ponder this and then answer)Let's dialog a bit on this. (Basically, I'm interested in your second question) mommapbs |

573 | Truly saved or not | John 10:28 | Mommapbs | 45100
Greetings Aggie2000! We must remember that God alone is the judge of the intent of one's heart. And those who come to Him by faith, (Romans 10:9-17) He will never forsake. As an encouragement, the Holy Spirit is God's gift to us upon our confession of faith;(2 Cor 1:21-22; Ephesians 1:13-14) He is our guarantee of salvation and assures us of our right standing with God based upon the finished work of Jesus Christ.(see 1 John 5) May God bless you through His Word. 574 | once saved always saved | John 10:28 | Mommapbs | 86668
Greetings - this has been debated many times - do a quick search for "eternal security" Kalos wrote an excellent post which supports my position on the matter as well: ONCE LOST, ALWAYS LOST. . . . "Once saved, always saved." This statement is not in the Bible. Nor is it a phrase used by Baptist preachers. The only people who use this phrase are the ones who reject the Bible doctrine of Eternal Security, the opposite of which would be Eternal Insecurity. . . .While "once saved, always saved" is hotly debated, one thing is for certain: Once lost, salvation is always lost. " . . . logically Heb. 6:4 implies that if salvation were to be lost, it would be impossible for that person to be born again, lose it, and then be born again again. This much is clear: whoever openly and consciously rejects Jesus Christ is unregenerate even if he seemed to have been saved ealier." Whether he had lost his salvation or never had it to begin with, "either way, the result is identical." (note at Heb. 6:4ff, NRSV Harper Study Bible) mommapbs |

576 | How did Jesus escape from Nazareth? | John 10:30 | Mommapbs | 129634
Greetings! How did Jesus escape from Nazareth? Is 55:8-9 might give you a clue! I suspect the message for us to understand here is that Jesus is not subject to man's desires. Also, His time (for His death) had not come . . . God is God and we are not - thank you God! Blessings, mommapbs |

579 | Why did Jesus weep or what was the occas | John 11:35 | Mommapbs | 66262
Greetings! Just this evening the Lord reminded me of this verse and I wondered if there might be something more that our Lord was responding to . . . and yes, I agree with owade's response to you. But perhaps Jesus wept at things we cannot see. In verses 33 and 38 we are told that Jesus was "deeply moved" or disturbed (in spirit). What does Jesus see that we cannot? The hearts of men! Perhaps he saw hearts of those around Him, as people without hope. And there He, the Hope of the world, stood in their midst and they could not see Him. Perhaps He was grieved at the lack of faith, the rejection and rebellion that was on display just for Him at that time. Lastly, note what Jesus told the people to do when Lazarus came out of the tomb. (John 11:44)He was wrapped in the grave clothes; they bound him while he was in the tomb. Jesus remarked that he came to set the captives free. (Luke 4:18) And he does free us from death (represented by the tomb) but He also frees us from the bonds of the Law (self effort). We are no longer slaves to the law but followers of Jesus by the Spirit.(Romans 7:4-6) When we encourage others to live by Christ alone (Jesus reminds us "Apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5)we loose the grave clothes and set them free to enjoy the liberty that is pour in Christ. See 2 Cor 3:17. In Galatians, we are told to avoid becoming enslaved by the Law (self effort or performance Christianity) - see Gal 2:16 through Gal 3:5 Perhaps Jesus wept because He saw people, who were rescued from death, still bound in grave clothes. This was just something He gave me to think about this evening and I thought I'd share it with you since you posted the original question! Blessings in Him, mommapbs |
