561 | Is it proper to move the communion table | 1 Cor 11:27 | Mommapbs | 76402
Greetings bmajors, while we want to accord proper respect for the articles we use to worship the Lord, we must be mindful of where our true worship takes place - in and from our heart. For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes. 1 Cor 11:26. According to verse 27, The only "improper" thing one could do is to take the "Lord's Supper" in an unworthy manner. I don't think that moving the communion table could be classified as such, do you? mommapbs PS: Is a table even required? |

566 | ethical standards tauht by jesus | Matt 4:4 | Mommapbs | 76223
Greetings jack8mabc: Let me guess, this is a homework question! Jesus does not teach us ethical standards, for these are ways of making decisions that are determined by what man declares to be right or good. Jesus teaches us the WAY to live. "Man does not live by bread alone, but on every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." The Word of God is THE standard! mommapbs PS: See also Mt 22:36-40. |

567 | Is the context the Pharisee-Matt 15:13 | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 76214
Greetings Searcher - this verse is posted right at my terminal. It is a constant reminder to me that in all that I do, I must seek the will of God first. I believe that in this verse Jesus was using the Pharisees as illustration of those who placed themselves in a postion of authority when in fact they had none (see also Mt 23:2). Jesus accuses them of disobedience because they have allowed "tradition" or the understanding of man to usurp the authority of God (Mt 15:3). Might we be guilty of the same at times? When we sow our PLANS(plants) into the garden of life that we have been given, what will we reap if they are not from God? Just some thoughts. . . I hope this verse will be significant for you too! Blessings, mommapbs As a contrast check out: Ps 1:3; Ps 92:13-15; Is 60:21 and Is 61:3 |

574 | Who married Noah's daughters? | Gen 9:19 | Mommapbs | 76138
Papyrus, if Noah had daughters, they are not mentioned specifically. We know that his three sons and their wives were saved from the deluge. According to this verse, the earth was populated from the SONS of Noah. Evidently, Noah's procreation had ceased. Where did you get the impression that Noah had daughters? Please try to give a Scriptural reference when you ask a question. Blessings, mommapbs |

575 | Who were the sons of God from Genesis 6 | Gen 6:4 | Mommapbs | 76135
Greetings Papyrus. "Gen 6:1-4 *sons of God.* The 'sons of God' may mean God's created, supernatural beings, who were no longer godly in character (6.3). Some commentators believe, however, that this expression refers to the 'godly line' of Seth and that 'daughters of humans' (v. 4 in the NRSV) refer to women from the line of Cain. Most likely the phrase refers to those descendants of Seth who trusted in the Lord but whose children intermarried with women descended from Cain. Those marriages were not with angels then, but between godly and ungodly human families. Angels neither marry nor are given in marriage (Mt 22:30), so that this verse hardly applies to them. ... *Nephilim* are strong, violent, tyrannous men of great wickedness. It may well be that the explanation of these verses has been lost to us." (NRSV Harper Study Bible, Harold Lindsell, Ph.D., D.D., Grand Rapids, Michigan: Zondervan, 1991) Scripture does not tell us who Noah's sons married, all we know is that God chose to save them as well as Noah's wife and sons. Frankly, after being through the Flood, I would like to think that they knew enough to "fear God and keep His commandments!" Ecc 12:13. mommapbs PS: You can use the "quick search" feature to find answers that have been previously given on MANY subjects. |

576 | Searching for the truth | Heb 2:4 | Mommapbs | 76000
Hi FytRobert! There are those who "use" the manifestation of the gifts of the Spirit as a "litmus test" of sorts. But from this verse we see that the gifts of the Holy Spirit (as listed in 1 Cor 12) are given according the will of God. Is His will be that we parade them in front of others for affirmation? The purpose of the gifts is to edify the BODY, not the individual.(1 Cor 12:7) What you are reporting should be troubling, for what is the motive behind the request for the manifestation of the gifts of tounges to be evident? We are told to desire the greater gifts,(1 Cor 12:31) . . . where does "speaking in tongues" fall on this list of gifts? What are the "greater gifts?" Blessings, mommapbs |

577 | On whom do you rely?In whom do you trust | 2 Kin 17:27 | Mommapbs | 75904
Greetings Ray. When I read this, I see a lack of recognition by the king of Assyria. To him, in a polythestic culture, it would not seem stange that this land could have its own specific god. I wouldn't get to carried away over the lack of capitalization here! Are you suggesting that Americans do likewise? Possibly we all fall into a similar form of idolatry, for anytime we put something or some one in place of God, we are serving that as a god. Blessings, mommapbs PS: Perhaps we had better re-think the phrase "In God we trust" - it is absolute or subjective? |

578 | searching for the truth | Eph 1:13 | Mommapbs | 75870
Greetings FytRobert. Although there will be differing views on this subject, God's Word assures us that we receive the Holy Spirit when we believe. I believe that at the moment of conversion, we are not only sealed by the Holy Spirit, but we are given specific gifts as well. I do not believe that we are to judge the presence of the Holy Spirit in others by a manifestaion of His gifts. The Holy Spirit testifies with our spirit that we are children of God.(Romans 8:16) WHO does He testifiy to? He tesitifes to us, giving us the assurance of our salvation and He also testifies to The Judge! (Our debt has been paid, there is no longer any condemnation for those who are in Christ! Romans 8:1) In 1 Cor 12:31; 14:1, Paul tells us that we should "desire the greater gifts." For WHAT purpose are the gifts given, for the instrument or the Giver? I believe we must be careful not to get off course here. Be thankful for what you have been given and esteeem the giftedness of others as well. Do not presume that because one's gift is more obvious, that it is more important. All the gifts are necessary and are given to serve God's purposes. When we desire the greater gifts, I suspect that this means that we are to desire to see "the greater gifts" at work in the "body" (the fellowship of believers), not in self or a specific individual. Please bear in mind that not everyone on the Forum shares this view of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. I urge you to get into the Word and let the Holy Spirit instruct and direct you. Blessings, mommapbs |

580 | old testament - heaven and hell | Job 19:26 | Mommapbs | 75860
I suspect the reality of entering God's presence upon physical death was a reality in the Old Testament. There was no debate or question about "heaven or hell;" it was a certainty. King David, upon hearing of the death of his infant son declares in 2 Sam 12:23, "I will go to him, but he will not return to me." Recall also that Elijah's call heavenward was witnessed by Elisha. (2 Kings 2:11) We would be wise to understand the reality of life as well - it is eternal . . . but WHERE will it be spent? Perhaps if we endeavored to truly grasp the horrific consequences of eternal life separated from God, we would be more passionate about the souls of those who don't know Him! Just some thoughts, I hope this helps. mommapbs |
