541 | When did God change "mode" of baptism? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 77187
Taleb - Without wanting to enter into the fracas about baptism I would like some clarification from you. It is my understanding that baptism was used in the Old Testament when one outside of Israel wanted to follow Jehovah; is this correct? If so, did the physical action of baptism make one an Israelite? In other words, if you took a white cloth and dipped it in red dye, what kind of cloth is it white or red? What was the purpose of baptism - has it changed? Thanks for considering my questions. mommapbs |

542 | Apostles | Rom 10:15 | Mommapbs | 77148
I found this site for you to consider: www.bibleblast.net/wh_apostle.htm Now I know in certain denominations that there are those who claim to hold the "office" of apostle, but I struggle with the lack of Scriptural support for this moniker. However, I do not believe that the "gifts" have ceased! As for one who has seen the Lord, yes, I do know such a man, but he does not consider himself to be an Apostle of the Biblical order. An apostle is defined as one who has been sent on a mission, perhaps you, my friend, could qualify? Blessings, mommapbs |

Hi Sweet! You sure have asked a lot of questions! How about filling out your user information profile? It is my firm belief that we, as created beings have an eternal destiny. Where we will spend it has been the subject of much debate that I prefer not to enter into! I believe that the world or "kosmos" in the references that you have cited refers to the collection of individuals apart from Kingdom of God. The "world" had a beginning; and although its influence will cease, the world (those who reject the Son) will spend eternity in utter darkness. Mt 8:12; John 12:46 mommapbs |

FytRobert: Because God is eternal, we cannot adequately grasp what has always been and will be. But suffice it to say that before the beginning, God-the Trinity was in perfect communion. The Bible is silent about the point in the continuum of eternity past that God created the angelic order, yet I believe that these beings preceded mankind and the physical universe. Indeed, the Creation is just part of a much larger story, one that has been written to put an end to evil for all eternity! Very simplistically, eternity past is Act 1; the creation of the angelic order is Act 2; the creation of man takes place in Act 3; and Act 4 is eternity yet to be. Right now, we are moving very close to the "Last Scene in Act 3- the Judgment of God!" John Eldredge, a counselor and author, presents the message of the gospel of the kingdom as a great adventure. It is indeed the "greatest (love) story ever told." In every story, there is a beginning and an ending; in between, we meet the cast of characters: a hero, a villain, and of course the damsel in distress. God, the Author, was already there at the beginning; creation was not. God is the good King. Yet what was created questioned His goodness and therefore His rule. Satan is the villain; he is the being who brought sin into God's perfect Universe by his rebellion. Evil cannot co-exist with God, so a plan for the restoration of God's Kingdom continues to unfold with the Creation and the anticipated Fall of man. Jesus is the hero, who leaves His home in Heaven to enter our world, on a Divine mission: to rescue the beautiful maiden. Mankind is that damsel in distress! And whether we recognize it or not, we are the ones who need to be saved. We do not need to be saved from the villain, for he has already been defeated, but rather, we need to be saved from the wrath of God against sin. All have sinned . . . the penalty for sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 3:23,Romans 6:23 Today we are living our individual "little stories" within the pages of what John Eldredge calls "The Sacred Romance." This "romance" is the ongoing pursuit and wooing of the damsel's heart by the Hero. “The love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”Romans 5:5,6,8 Act 3, the one in which humanity is cast, is drawing to a conclusion. The Old Testament prophets as well as Jesus gave us "cues" (clues and signs!) to keep us following the story line of this great adventure He has written. The Last Act - the Judgment of God - will come and the story of those who have chosen to be written out of the script will end. But just as God was there in eternity before the beginning of time, God will usher in eternity for the future . . . God declares that He will make all things new, not all new things! (Rev. 21:5) In this great restoration, there will be a new stage and a perfect script for His Beloved; indeed they will “live happily ever after!” “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 I know that there are those on the Forum who will reject my interpretation of theology, but this presentation made sense to me! It enables me to understand how mankind "fits" into the BIG picture that God has prepared for those who love Him! 1 Cor 2:9 mommapbs |

550 | Can you be a Pastor if you are divorced? | 1 Tim 3:5 | Mommapbs | 76874
Greetings Met. I suspect that this verse gives us an answer to your question. Have you done a search on divorce in God's Word? God hates divorce! (Mal 2:16) See what it says, then check out the quick search feature on divorce. While I am aware of several Pastors who have been divorced and then choose to re-marry, I do wonder about the effectiveness of their ministry in light of this portion of God's Word. We are told to be reconciled to one another! See 1 Cor 7:14 Blessings, mommapbs PS: How marvelous is the Grace and Mercy of our Lord, who continues to love and forgive our unfaithfulness! |

551 | Why are movies like Harry Potter bad? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 76853
Part II The influence of the Harry Potter books is just like one of these absent bricks. Without God’s standards, it is very easy to fall into a trap of "good appearances." God tells us to overcome evil with good; and according to God’s standards, wizardry is not "good!" according to God! As God given "absolutes" are in the process of being removed from our society (in the name of "separation of church and state"), the empty spaces are replaced with the shifting sands of tolerance and humanism. We are being hurled closer to an age where "everyone does what is right in his or her own eyes." “Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight.” Isaiah 5:21 Could there be order in this kind of chaos? God is not the author of confusion, but someone is! Harry Potter aside, in choices and questions set before us, and for our children, to whom shall we go for guidance? How will we determine what is "good?" "God has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8 Also, please use the link to Christiansinterative.com at the top of this page and see the article "Twelve Reasons No To See Harry Potter Movies." I hope this helps you sort things out! 552 | Why are movies like Harry Potter bad? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 76851
The Horror of Harry Potter Most people will agree that there opposing forces in the world. Because there is an ongoing struggle between good and evil, we are always confronted with the opportunity to choose between the two. Regardless of our decision, we inherently know the difference between right and wrong. The position or direction we take depends upon our foundation of values; our values determine the way we make choices and perceive the world. Most value formation takes place in childhood, so it imperative that the source of these values be examined. What source will we use to determine what is "good?" The Judeo-Christian model ascribes goodness to God alone. By using God’s Word as THE absolute standard, we have the ability to discern what is "good" or God - honoring. "Do good to your servant according to your word, O LORD. Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I believe in your commands. Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word. You are good, and what you do is good; teach me your decrees." Psalm 119:65-68. 1) The Mosaic Law strictly forbids divination (consulting mediums or spirits, casting spells, sorcery, and witchcraft). "Let no one be found among you who . . .practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, casts spells, or who is a medium or a spiritist or who consults the dead." Deuteronomy 18:9-13 2) Using the Ten Commandments alone, any of these practices violates the first commandment: "You shall have no other gods before me." (Exodus 20:3). Whenever we give authority to anything or anyone in place of God, it is idolatry. 3) "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God . . ." (Exodus 20: 4-5). * * * God’s decree is: "Seek good and not evil." (Amos 5:14) In our quest for "good" we must be careful. For example, the Harry Potter books use occult resources to overcome the "evil" circumstances confronting the main character. Although one cannot ascribe "goodness" to the abuses Harry experiences – for they are indeed evil - Harry’s response (the use of sorcery) is not "good" either! Our society has become complacent; our moral code has relaxed. We no longer evaluate right and wrong as absolutes; today we are more apt to use situational ethics ("the ends justify the means"). When we are confronted with decision-making situations, our choices are no longer “black and white” but rather, shades of gray! God warns us not to abandon HIS standard of what is good or right. The means (sorcery, casting spells, etc) that Harry uses in these stories is in conflict with God's standard. "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness . . ." (Isaiah 5:20) What are we teaching children through these stories? God’s word tells us that there is indeed a spirit being who embodies evil; he has many names: the devil, Satan, Lucifer, the father of lies, etc. “How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn!" Isaiah 14:12 Just as the Serpent was subtle in his deception with Eve in the garden, our enemy, the devil masquerades as an "angel of light" today, misleading many in their search for what is good! A friend of mine gave me a wonderful illustration of how the devil works to deceive us: Suppose you wanted to destroy a building but it is full of people. Certainly you couldn’t come with a wrecking ball that would be too obvious! Since time is of no consequence to the devil's plans, he can undermine the foundation of the building by removing bricks one by one. Using this strategy, the people living in the building will go about their lives oblivious to the absence of a brick or two. Over time, they will not even notice the presence of the "destroyer" as he systematically chips away at the structure’s foundation. But in the end, the objective will be achieved just as if a wrecking ball was used - the building will collapse! Part II to follow |

553 | and the spoiler came out of the camp | 1 Sam 13:17 | Mommapbs | 76778
Greetings Dorthea. When the Israelites went in to conquer a land, they destroyed the people there but took the "spoils" or the possessions of those who had been killed. Those who destroy to gain the bounty of others could appropriately called "spoilers." The NASB translation used the word "raiders" instead of "spoiler." In looking up the info on this word, it is consistent with destroyer. Hope this helps, mommapbs |

554 | Unequally Yoked? | 2 Cor 6:14 | Mommapbs | 76727
Greetings Sarah H. The very next verse answers your question. 2 Cor 6:15 says, "Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?" Oneness in Christ is not dependent upon doctrinal differences. But this is not to say that doctrinal differences may be difficult to overcome . . . check out the Forum, I can't imagine being married to some of the respondants here! We would be arguing theology every waking moment, and there are much better things to do in a marriage than argue, don't you agree? Can two walk together unless they be agreed? (Amos 3:3) If this is a personal consideration for you, I suggest that you seek objective spiritual counselling. This means to find a Pastor or a trained Christian therapist that is independent of both partner's denominations. They can offer you insight into how to deal with your theological differences and help you to determine if these differences would be roadblocks to a successful relationship. Blessings, mommapbs |

556 | cut off | Ex 12:15 | Mommapbs | 76618
Greetings Elder. I read your question last PM and have thought long on this. After reveiwing other instances of these words in Scripture, I see two things. First of all, the grave and serious response of God to sin and secondly, the penalty for sin that was laid upon Jesus. (Dan 9:26; 2 Cor 5:21) I hope that this brings a sense of praise and thnaksgiving to you as you recall God's marvelous gift of Grace today, for "Therefore there is now no condemnation (no cutting off!) for those who are in Christ Jesus." - Romans 8:1 Blessings, mommapbs |

557 | How has God spoke to you? | Deut 5:24 | Mommapbs | 76617
Greetings garyo! While my experience with God's voice is not unique, I believe it is important to encourage all believers to be actively listening for God. Many believers would argue that God ONLY speaks to us through His Word . . . but God is God; His ways are not our ways; if we reject the sensory or "supernatural" as a means by which God CAN speak, we deny the very nature of God and deprive ourselves of "hearing" Him as He wants us to "hear!" Indeed, He speaks to us in MANY ways . . . once He even used a donkey! Go to Christiansinteractive.com and search for mommapbs. Select "All Hemmed in by the Master Weaver" and you will read how God has spoken to me. Blessings on your project, may it serve to encourage! mommapbs |
