381 | Why does the Bible say days and nights? | Mark 8:31 | JCrichton | 122964
Hi, Bob! I think that that is yet another mystery that will never be unfolded by human understanding: Matthew 28:1-7 clearly places Jesus' resurrection on the first day of the week (Sunday). John 19:31-42 clearly places Jesus death and burial on the day right before Sabbath (Saturday). ...we may theorize and present as many conjectures as we please... it won't change a thing: Christ died and was buried on Friday and Rose to Life on Sunday... Perhaps that missing day in our calculations could be explained by Matthew's account: From the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out in a loud voice, 'Eli, eli, lama sabachthani?' that is, 'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?' ...But Jesus, again crying out in a loud voice, yielded up his spirit. And suddenly, the veil of the Sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom, the earth quaked, the rocks were split, the tombs opened and the bodies of many holy poeple rose from the dead, and these, after his resurrection, came out of the tombs, entered the holy city and appeared to a number of people. (Matthew 27:45-53) Again, I am not saying that this is the first day of his death/burial... just citing it as an example of what could have meant to be the first day. Another explanation... it could be that from God's perspective any portion of a day is a complete day-night cycle. Again, we may never have full revelation in the flesh... this does not mean that we should question God's Word because we cannot fully comprehend every single passage of the Bible. God Bless! Angel |

382 | Jesus called Good teacher | Mark 10:18 | JCrichton | 131095
Hi, Noveta! I understand what you are saying... it seems a contradiction in terms: Jesus being God is Good... We must remember that Jesus did not come to claim his Divinity on earth (my kingdom is not of this world--John 18:36); rather, He came to serve (both to die on the Cross in our stead and to instruct us of the errors of the world and of the new Covenant that began in Him); He gave Himself the title of Son of man, though His birth titles clearly demonstrate that He was waaaay more (Isaiah 9:6--God and Father; Isaiah 7:14--God with us). It is even more confusing when in John 13 He seems to be retracting His words as He tells the disciples that: "You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I am. (John 13:13) So how can Jesus be the Lord and still not "good teacher?" If we view this in light of other Scripture we can begin to understand the seeming contradiction: For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. (Luke 22:27) After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma tax came to Peter and asked, "Doesn't your teacher pay the temple tax?" "Yes, he does," he replied. When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. "What do you think, Simon?" he asked. "From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes--from their own sons or from others?" "From others," Peter answered. "Then the sons are exempt," Jesus said to him. "But so that we may not offend them, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours." (Matthew 17:24-27) Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented. (Matthew 3:13-15) These three examples demonstrate that there was something deeper taking place: Luke 22:27: Jesus clearly reveals His Authority and His Supremacy over the disciples, yet He maintains His station as "servant." Matthew 17:24-27: Jesus demonstrates the irony of being charged a Temple tax--but He does not send the collector emptied-handed! Matthew 3:13-15: Here, John the Baptist is aware of Jesus' Origins, bows to His Authority and reject the idea of he having any dominance over Christ... Jesus reminds John that He came as the Lamb of God, hence He must abide by Scripture! As the Son of man (Lamb of God) Jesus could not officiate His full Divinity (Philippians 2:5-8), though there are moments when He allows the knowledge of His Divinity to seep through! There could also be a hidden revelation in this passage as Jesus states that only God alone is good... this is very silimar to passages where the Pharisees and masters of the law themselves state that Jesus is equating Himself to God or that He makes Himself God; other similarities are found in Jesus rebuking the spirits not to reveal that He is the Son of God/Messiah and when He tells the disciples not to reveal, just yet, certain things that they witnessed. Sadly, some use Scripture such as this to attempt to deny Jesus' Divinity! God Bless! Angel |

383 | With any wealth can we enter heaven? | Mark 10:25 | JCrichton | 133314
Hi, tpadgett29! I do not believe that Jesus condemned the wealthy... rather, it is the love of money (materialism) that hinders our ability to serve Him: hence: it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for the wealthy to be saved! This of course those not automatically guarantee that the middle class and the destitute have an automatic "non-transferable-one-way-to-heaven" ticket! Nowadays, lust for material things can be found even on the very young (selfishness and consumption is the rule). Many people, including Christians, are living well beyond their means... when people place such extreme value on material things they are choosing to serve more than one God--one guess as to who they ultimately drop at the cash register! So be assured that it is not the amount of money that will keep us from Christ, it is our fellowship with materialism!: For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (1 Timothy 6:10) God Bless! Angel |

384 | how's this relate to communication? | Mark 11:2 | JCrichton | 149502
Hi, ckj! Ray gave you an excellent adaptation on the selected Scripture... I would simply add that you should also look into other Scriptural passages that speak on how Christians are commanded to behave towards each other (and the world): Galatians 5:14-16; Ephisians 4:2-4; 32; Colossenses 3:16; Hebrews 3:13; James 1:19-20; 4:11-17; 5:12; These passages speak on our mode of conduct--the old adage "stick and stones..." was well-meaning but fell quite short of the truth... we can kill with a word (no not taking it out of Dune)... we can lie, cheat, corrupt, salvage or edify... it is all up to the words we choose to communicate to others and the veracity of our word (after all word is bond)... If you are slow to anger, quick to listen, and quick still to acknowledge others, as you share the truth, you will be communicating in an excellent plane... a Christian plane of existence! God Bless! 385 | need explaination to parable in Mark 12 | Mark 12:9 | JCrichton | 134971
Hi, sub! In the Old Testament we learn that God has separated a portion (remnant) of Israel onto Himself and that Israel whom He once called "my people" will be called "not my people" and that those who were once called "not my people" will be called "my people..." Jesus is speaking on that particular occurance! Israel is foretold through the prophets that the Son of God will come to them, and, true to Scripture, they rejected Jesus, aprehended Him, and put Him to death! The Apostles began their preaching in Israel (the people of Israel), ended up being persecuted and ran out of their Jewish communities; hence, they began to preach to the gentiles from whom they made "the new people of God." Compare with John 1:1-14 and Romans 9:1 through 11:32. God Bless! Angel |

386 | Jesus predicting the future? | Mark 13:32 | JCrichton | 116600
Hi, Biffbt! In order to define what Jesus knew or did not know we must understand Jesus' purpose. John the Evangelist introduced Him as the WORD (who was at the beginning, who was with God, and who was God)... John the Baptist introduces Him as the Lamb of God (a symbolic sacrificial animal since the Law required sacrificial offerings). Was Jesus God? John the Evangelist says so! Was Jesus man? John the Baptist attest to His future sacrifice for humanity; God cannot die so Jesus most definitely had to be a man! That is part of the mystery! The Jehovah Witnesses want to interpret the Bible as Jesus having the same limitations as mortal man... Some of the passages in the Bible dictate just such assumption! But there are oh so many more that tells us He is God! Did Jesus come to reveal total knowledge? No! His main purpose was to rescue us from death! As the Anointed, Joshua, He could reveal only some things. He Himself attests to this in the book of John when He tells the disciples that there will be another that would come from God, the Paraclete; He, the Paraclete, will reveal and teach everything: He will tell us the things of the Anointed and He will remind us of the Lords Words... Here are some examples of how you can trace Christ's Omniscience: * In the Old Testament Yahweh claimed to know and to be able to search man's heart and soul, ditto with Christ; even the disciples confess: now we know that you know everything! * Jesus tells Peter to drop the fishing net into the water and there would be fish. * Jesus checks the Samaritan woman who professes not to be married... * Jesus tells one of the disciples that He saw him when he was under the tree (apparently the disciple was all alone, with no one in the vicinity)... * Jesus knows that Lazarus will die if He does not heal him but He allows the death of His friend to happen in order to demonstrate that He is the Resurrection! * Jesus tells Peter to get a particular fish which will provide for the tax fees of both Him and Peter. * Jesus tells the disciples to get a particular donkey (with its young) and the animals are found as He told them! * Jesus tells the disciples to secure the upper room for His Supper--it is done! * Jesus responds to the Pharisees, Sadducees and the Masters of the Law in a manner that completely obliterates all of their argument; the writers of the Gospels usually comment that "He knew what was in their hearts" or "He knew what they were thinking..." * Jesus foretells the disciples that they would be despised and mistreated on account of His name; that some would even be put to death, as with Peter... it happened! * Jesus prophesized about the destruction of the Temple--on 70 AD it was destroyed! * Jesus told Peter that not even the gates of hell could destroy the Church... after decades of distortions and anti-Christian movies, a movie made on the Passion of Christ which was prophesized a flop that would not even have a "break even" success made over 200 million dollars in its inauguration week: Christ, the Church, is very much alive! God Bless! Angel |

387 | why did jesus think God had forsaken him | Mark 15:30 | JCrichton | 117057
Hi, ministermay! There was one instance in the universe when Christ was separated from God... He sweated tears of blood, He was deeply moved, He was tormented by the cup that He alone had to partake... many people misunderstand all these previous signs... Christ knew that He had to absorbe onto His flesh our wicknesses and wickedness... had it been simple a matter of symbolism then why would He go through all the motions, including the crucifixion (He said it more than once: "don't you think that if I asked the Father would not send, instantly, a myriad of angels... [paraphrased])... In Apocalypse (Revelation) we are told of the Heavenly Jerusalem where nothing impure would be allow to enter into it; Moses was cautioned about the ground about the burning bush; the Hebrew people were cautioned about not ascending onto the mountain when God would give Moses an audience; God even commanded that Moses and those serving did not expose themselves (their garments were open as all robes are)... God would not be exposed to sin--only in the Person of Jesus (who is God incarnate), the sinless God-man, would sin ever reach to God without being complete destruction for the sinners (us!)... But know that time has no meaning to God, so this could have taken place at the instant that Christ, the man, expired... yet that miniscule separation (which could well have been a fraction of a nano-second) made Christ feel such anguish that He would call out to the Father! God Bless! Angel |

388 | Does "all the world" include Cyberspace? | Mark 16:15 | JCrichton | 121554
Hi, Aixen7z4! Colossians 1:16 clearly states that God created all that is visible and invisible. It could be argued that that which is invisible is not only the spiritual realm but also the future yet unfolded. Cyberspace is an extension of our communication channels which is of this world and part of this world... hence cyberspace is not an unknown universe devoid of God or of the need of God's fellowship! God Bless! Angel |

389 | Would you? | Mark 16:15 | JCrichton | 121603
Hi, Aixen7z4! I don't quite follow you... has anyone attempted to censure your posts on this Forum? As far as I understand the rules preaching the Gospel is not forbidden. No one can indoctrinate into their personal congregation. No one can present anti-Christian arguments. No one can introduce any of the topics rejected by the Forum. But everyone is free to present the Scriptures. Everyone is free to respond to queries. Everyone is free to ask Biblical questions. We cannot change the format of this Forum. We can only work within the posted regulations. Personally I am affected by some of the language, screen names, and possitions of some of the members/visitors that frequent this Forum. But I ignore what I consider to be frivoluos, I challenge what seems to be anti-Christian rhetoric, and I question the posts I do not understand. Sometimes I may cause someone to think and to get hot and to become uncomfortable enough that they might feel persuaded to read the Bible more deeply or to truly search the Scriptures--my job is done! Sometimes there might be a person who is truly searching and has been mislead by the anti-God culture or some extremist views of the Scriptures... I give them the Bible as complete and as candid as I can without attempting to influence their denomenational identity. Here in this forum as well as on others I preach the Gospel--I do not try to make it into a sermon... I love the Scriptures and I attempt to instill that feeling onto others! God Bless! Angel |

390 | Does it mean I don't believe | Mark 16:17 | JCrichton | 156854
Hi, mical! Some people actually believe that the proof of miracles or other grand signs is what Jesus determined as demonstrative power of those who Believe... The problem with that idea is that Jesus Himself attest that even those who do such grandious signs as above are not necessarily abiding in Him and if they are not abidind in Him and Him in them they will not enter into the Kingdom of Heaven: 21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' (Matthew 7:21-23) ...and even those He Himself had sent out onto the neighboring towns, as they came back full of joy and contentment, Jesus warned that they should be glad not of their seeming accomplishments but that their names be written in Heaven (Luke 10:17-20)... Lastly, I also want to share Paul's revelation about the Church and the Holy Spirit: 27Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 28And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues. 29Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues[a]? Do all interpret? 31But eagerly desire[b] the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way. (1 Corinthians 12:27-31--the conclusion of this last verse :31 is found in reading 1 Corinthians 13:1-13) Christ did not call you to be a performer (miracles, discernment of spirits, strange languages...); Christ called you, and the rest of humanity, to abide in Him and be Saved!: 34"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." (John 13:34-35) So... your greatest sign is your Love for God as you love Jesus' Church! God Bless! Angel |

391 | Detailed account of His Birth | Luke | JCrichton | 106704
Hi, Mylene! As Makarios pointed out, Luke is the one book which has the greatest details leading to Jesus' birth: 1:5-38 - The birth announcements of John the Baptist and Jesus 1:39-56 - Mary visits Elizabeth (sets time frame of birth in relation to John B.) 1:57-80 - John's birth and Zechariah's prophecy 2:1-7 - Jesus' Birth 2:8-20 - Proclamation and Invitation to Shepherds The only point not cover by Luke is Jesus' ancestry (Matthew 1:1-17) which is a point that links Jesus to His forefathers (David and Abraham). God Bless! |

392 | No Wine vs Not Much Wine | Luke 1:15 | JCrichton | 125726
Hi, Doc! When reading the Old Testament we find that many of God's prophets were separated from amongst the people and even their nutritional intake was restricted. John the Baptist was one of these particular prophets who was not only separated from the people of Israel, but was forbiden to even eat grapes! Bishops, being in charge of the Church have a higher responsibility than deacons. Their standing both within the Church and the community must be exemplary. If they do not drink, ever, there could never be an occasion for both believers and non-believers to denounce them as drunkards and fools! God Bless! Angel |

393 | various beliefs | Luke 1:28 | JCrichton | 119738
Hi, mikec! Ever since the very first schism of the Church (1 Corinthians 1:12) there has existed differences in religious beliefs. Every congregation claims total Truth and right of passage... The best way to find answers to your question would be to address the source of your queries... i.e.: not being of oriental background I could hardly present to you anything other than a myopic view of the various peoples and cultures from that region of the earth! If you truly desire to know about the Catholic Church, check out the sites on Emmaus' post. I'll live you with this passage: Do not stifle the Spirit or despise the gift of prophecy with cotempt; test everything and hold on to what is good and shun every form of evil. (1 Thessalonians 5:19-22) God Bless! Angel |

394 | King of the jews | Luke 1:32 | JCrichton | 117998
Hi, onewaytriple7! There are various Bible passages that explain this. The most congruent are Luke 1:32-33 and Isaiah 9:7 (since Luke is basically quoting Isaiah). We must understand that there were two groups of people in Israel when Jesus walked the earth: the true devoted people of God (which could be said to be Yahweh's remnant) and the religious people of God (the remaining people of Israel). Those who listen to God and allowed the Holy Spirit to guide them to Jesus, as Mary's relative, Elizabeth, and her husband, Zechariah, the shepherds, Simeon, the old man at the Temple, Anna the old prophet, the eleven disciples, Lazarus and his sisters Martha and Mary, and so on...--these, and those who would follow them, understood or would eventually understand that Joshua (the Anointed) was that seed of David whose kingdom would have no end. Those who employed their worldly wisdom and intelligence to define Jesus and what He offered them... they certainly did not accept Him as anything but a threat to their way of life! This is why it was easy for the masses to yell to Pontious Pilot that they had no other king but Caesar. Understand that though the Roman empire controlled the Jews, the Jewish people were forced into submission; had they had a choice they would have opted for their complete independence, which would have included their own leadership (ie: king). God Bless! Angel |

395 | giving birth without sex? | Luke 1:35 | JCrichton | 129411
Hi, Mobisa! You are so right! There was only one time in the history of Creation in which God modified the natural course of the miracle that is human conception... the purpose of this was to fulfill Scripture's prophecies about the Messiah that would be born of a virgen (young woman that had no sexual intercourse with a man)... Remember, there are many people who wish to exalt themselves to a place of importance... even when, by their actions, they deny God or blaspheme against the Holy Spirit. God Bless! Angel |

396 | Birth of Jesus stable or cave? 3/30 magi | Luke 2:7 | JCrichton | 137749
Hi, Kiwibelle! My understanding is that caves were used as stables for Winter refuge of barn animals... The Bible is specific about the shepherds seeing finding the newly born babe in the manger (these shepherds were local); while the magi (which I suspect are thought of as three due to the offering to baby Jesus: gold, myrrh and frankincense) were foreigners, traveling great distances to witness the Birth of the King of the Jews! See: Luke 2:1-40 and Matthew 1:18 through 2:18--again, these particular Scriptural passages offer no conclusive statements as to the number of the magi, the exact location of the manger (barn-like building or cave) or the exact age of Jesus when the magi visited and when the Holy Family fled to Egypt. God Bless! Angel |

397 | Matthew first ch; there was a census | Luke 2:7 | JCrichton | 137875
Hi, mdenard! As with much of undocumented history, most offers are "educated" guesses... some offer plausible arguments... others simply resort to today's political maneuvering: place the opponent on negative light and let popular vote run its course! What is important is that God loved us so that He sent His Only Begotten Son to free is from sin's imminent destruction: spiritual death! (John 3:16; 1:9-14) God Bless! Angel |

398 | Is there peace on earth? | Luke 2:14 | JCrichton | 106563
Hi, Mommapbs! In Matthew 24 Jesus talks about the coming of times--there is no peace in the hands of humanity. But there is a peace on earth, it is Christ's own peace (John 14:27) and Paul reminds us of this in 1 Thessalonians 5:3. Remember how intelligent and wise the Masters of the Law, Pharisees, Sadducees, etc. thought they were? They remove the stumbling stone and were headed for long lasting peace... but Jesus had prophesied that the Temple would be totally destroyed (a military assult on the Temple would cause the greatest devastation and upheaval)--it happened in 70AD! They did not seek Jesus' everlasting peace so they missed the boat! God Bless! |

399 | With WHOM is God pleased? | Luke 2:14 | JCrichton | 106570
Hi, Mommapbs! I believe that there is only one answer: Jesus! There have been some in our history (people of Israel and Christians) who have pleased God (beginning with Abel). But none have given up more or been more obedient than Jesus (Philippians 2:6-11). Jesus placed Himself just bellow the angels to rescue us and bring us back to the Father! God Bless! |

400 | Does it say this in the Bible? | Luke 2:14 | JCrichton | 141049
Hi, W12pawsplus! There is no specific Scripture that tells us that the angels sing to the Lord or that there are choirs of angels... We do have many Psalms that call for us to praise God and His Name and His Dwelling Place... Psalms that speak on the various musical instruments to use... King David himself appointed several choirs to worship God through song... if the earth, sea and all life and inanimate objects are called to praise the Lord, it is quite conceivable that angels do sing praises to the Lord! God Bless! Angel |
