621 | Alter Calls? | Rom 10:9 | skccab | 209693
Shalom dear one, You didn't offend me in the least. I am simply one who has been "hurt" by some of the folks here, myself. So I can tell you that they do not intend to do that, hurting is not what they are about. Teaching, edifying, building up and all that is good is what they are about. You will find that some of the strongest, wisest, and most loving people around are right here on SBF, and you will be so blessed to be a part of this godly family. So, like I said before, stick around and grow with us, and don't worry about what has gone on before. Brand new day - tomorrow is. :-) Cheri |

622 | Alter Calls? | Rom 10:9 | skccab | 209702
Good afternoon sister (It is afternoon for you isn't it?) Ego and pride are definitely what get in the way of so many blessings. And ususally they lead us in the wrong direction anyway. So we just nail them to the cross before we begin posting here and we'll just be blessed and blessed and be a blessing! (It took me a while to figure that one out :-) ). Cheri |

Shalom GPreston, Might I ask what the difference is between the Jew of the TaNaKH and the Jew of the Apostolic Scriptures? :-) Cheri |

625 | is marijuana against the bible | Rom 12:1 | skccab | 210173
Shalom Jay, You stated, "God clearly states that Pharmakeia (the use of drugs) is a sin in Galatians 5:19-20a;" Are you saying that you NEVER use medicinal drugs or are you meaning "street drugs" only? Don't you think it was God who gave man the wisdom and knowledge to find out how to make medicines to make life more comfortable, to even save lives? I do. And I think He gave humans the intelligence to know how to perform surgeries that save lives; and of course, surgeries require the use of drugs. Just wondering...:o) Cheri |

626 | is marijuana against the bible | Rom 12:1 | skccab | 210183
Shalom Adam, I'm glad I waited to respond to you, had wanted to pray and consider what you had written. The word was used for things other than medicinal drugs - yea!! Perhaps that is why I have never felt conviction against using medicine, so I guess I'll continue to do so. Thank you for the work and effort you put into your explanation for me. I do appreciate that. Cheri |

Shalom Adam, So you must be a 3rd shifter? I was too on the weekends for years, just have given them up for awhile. Why don't you fill in your user profile so we can all get to know you a bit better? :-) Cheri |

628 | is marijuana against the bible | Rom 12:1 | skccab | 210200
Shalom Adam, Thank you for letting us know a little bit about you, but is there a particular reason why you're using 2 different user-names? That gets very confusing.... It would be best if you choose just one to use. (Also, I think using 2 user names is against Lockman's policies.) :-) Cheri |

630 | Tithing, Giving, Itemizing | Rom 13:1 | skccab | 199793
Shalom Steve, Be it known that I am of the opinion that we are not "bound" to tithe 10percent, but I do choose to do so. And if I give my 10pc then get some of it back at the end of the year, then I didn't tithe 10pc. And at the new year the cycle begins again. This is just really confusing for me. (In this area, I'm definitely a new born!!) This isn't an answer I need for 2007, but next year is what I've got on my mind. :-) I'll be interested to see what pops up in this discussion, Steve, also. I'm off to classes right now, catch you later. Thanks to all who can contribute some help! Cheri |

631 | Tithing, Giving, Itemizing | Rom 13:1 | skccab | 199813
Shalom y'all, Thanks Steve and John for your input. Some things to chew on. Yes, John, I intend to tithe 10pc of the refund, and also use it for the gift I'm planning on giving. And I have only just this year (2008) begun to tithe earnings. I don't think, though, that I'll claim them in 2008. Just because the law says we can doesn't mean it's "right," only that it's legal in our land (though, PLEASE don't get me wrong, I'm NOT saying it's wrong!!). That's why I asked the question to begin with. You two helped answer that question, now it's just down to personal choices. Also, I have a whole year to study this out fruther, and get it figured out (and besides, I'm female - and females, even believers, may retain the perogative of changing our minds!). :-) Cheri |

632 | How to explain the purpose of the OT? | Rom 15:4 | skccab | 202147
Shalom Gary, Mat. 5:17-19 "Do not think I have come to destroy the Law..." Pay close attention to verse 19. Fulfill, Gr. "pleroo" means to fill with meaning, make abudnant, bring to fullest intent. Messiah tells us to 1) get rid of the idea that Torah is obsolete, and 2) be careful in our worship and lives to obey God. The principles and commands of God are found in the Torah. Torah means instruction. Jn. 1:1 Messiah is "the Word." The Whole Bible is "the Word." Messiah gave us the Torah. Torah teaches what Sin is AND what Righteousness is. Messiah saves. The Torah defines obedience. These are separate issues. The earliest believers followed Torah, Acts 21:20, 24:14, 25:3 Look at Nadab and Abihu in Lev. 10, they were killed on the spot for offering incense and fire that was NOT God-ordained. They tresspassed against God's holiness. Now - look at Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 4:32-5:11. They were killed directly by God also (in the NT). There was no death penalty for lying in the Law, but we already have 2 people paying the price for tresspassing against God's holiness. And the money that these two had promised to give to God had already become holy before Him, so they ROBBED God by keeping some ot it back. These 4 people were believers! Back to the sacrificial system: What that system was designed to do, it did it and it did it very well. But, if you look closely at the different sacrifices instituted by God in Torah you'll see that one BIG sin is ommitted - the Known Intentional Sin, the one we know is wrong but we choose to do it anyway! For the ancient Hebrews, there was no atonement for known intentional trespasses! (Aren't you glad that Jesus the Messiah took care of that?!!) Let me end by saying that if you believe that Heb. 13:8 is true, then a new look at the Old Testament is warranted. Either the God of the New Testament has changed from the God of the Old or He has not. He either "...is the same yesterday, and today, and forever" or He is not. We can't have it both ways. Cheri |

Shalom GPreston, Might I ask you what is the New Covenant that you are talking about, where is its description found? I'm not getting involved in the Revelation discussion, CDBJ is quite clear and capable in that area (he re-directed my thinking a bit)! I'm just curious about your view of the New Covenant. :-) Cheri |

634 | sharing our faith to unbelievers so hard | 1 Cor 1:18 | skccab | 199479
My dear brother, Jesusman, I have just finished reading thru this thread and I, too, would be sad to see you go away - you have contributed much, wisdom and grace - and, brother, no one can get too much of either of those attributes!! I used to get side-tracked in witnessing to others by those many types of questions. May I offer to you what someone told me? "Never let your conversation get off Yeshua, stay on Him and His words and His works." You are quite right, we are told to "go and teach." But we were never told to go and convince and convert. What we do is plant the seed. Just like planting a tomato plant seed. It grows, but we don't know how, but we peek at it every day expecting to see it grow - we don't have anything to do with it growing - we just plant the seed. It's the most wonderful thing in the world to be able to pray with a lost soul for their salvation, maybe I'm the odd one out but most of the time the person just walks away. But many years ago (I'm a 60's-70's Jesus-Freak hippie, remember those? :-) ) it was revealed to me, that those you actually do get to pray that blessed prayer with walked away many, many times before from others, when they got to me they were primed and ready, and just needed a little tender leading. Those that walk away, walk away with a belly full, they need time to digest things they've never heard before, and they will most likely walk away from several more witnesses before they "see the light." I know you already know this :-) I'm just bringing it to your remembrance, dear one. I do hope to see your posting here once again. I've been ill since last week and just returned here today - seeing that post was not a happy thing!! You're loved and appreciated here!! Shalom Cheri |

Shalom to you also Azure, Thank you for the encouragement! We must remember that we "say" volumes long before we ever open our mouths and that's where the main witness comes from anyway. Cheri |

Shalom once again Jesusman, I will put my 2cents worth in again. Every member of the body is important and needed. You are a part of this body of believers and without you this body is out of balance. We are all hurting. Abba brought you to this site and this family for a purpose. You know as well as I do that none of us just "happened" upon SBF - we are each here for a purpose. We want you to return, we need you to return. We miss you greatly. Cheri |

Keliy Thank you for your thoughts and efforts. It's much appreciated. The previous thread (Am I Ignorant) got me to thinking about the world to come (I'm not so much heaven-bound-minded as I am world-to-come-bound-minded.) :o) Baruch k'vod malchuto l'olam va'ed Blessed be Your glorious kingdom for ever Cheri |

Aaaah one of my favorite prayers, we sing it each shabbat at prayers. If you're interested in the Hebrew language, email me sometime, maybe we can learn together!! I've learned how to read Hebrew (with the vowel points) but my vocabulary is quite small. :o( BTW, to anyone, are you having problems receiving email notifications of responses to your posts? It's been a little over a week since I've received any emails from SBF!! Cheri |

Shalom dear Azure, Yes, I am doing much better, thank you. The fact that you speak and write such lovely English, I have to constantly remind myself that you also have an extremely daunting native language. Hats off to you, sweet sister!! I'm just in first stages of learning Hebrew, would love to find someone else to study it with. :o) Cheri |
