441 | Does not tithing disqualify leadership? | Mal 3:10 | skccab | 203454
Hi Thomas, That's a very good question. The scripture I gave earlier simply states that the sons of Israel would pay their first fruits and it would go to the Levites and the Levites would take one tenth of their tenth and it would go to Aaron. Now this was only of the grain and vine harvest (doesn't seem to include animals), so I don't know if the priests paid tithes or not. If you're studying on it, let me know what you find out. Shalom Cheri |

Hi Elohim7, Just to add to what Hank said (which was a great explanation). When you watch some programs or read some articles you might see BCE - this stands for Before the Common Era (which is also BC). This used to confuse me, so thought I'd mention it. Blessings Cheri |

443 | during the 3 days? | Matthew | skccab | 195350
Shabbat Shalom y'all, Jesusman, I think maybe the original poster of the question may have had Col. 2:14-15 on his mind. The WOF'ers (especially K. Copeland, K. Hagin and B. Hinn) teach this verse as Yeshua having gone into the depths of hell and wresting (spelling) the keys from satan and the making an open show of "them" and triumphing over "them" in it with the "them" being the beings in hell. Then according to this teaching, Yeshua preaches the gospel to those in the upper region known as Paradise, to Abraham, Isaac, etc. (Some teachings are the opposite, Yeshua preaches then goes into the depths to do battle.) Just thought you might like to know that this teaching is prevalent among the WOF'ers. (I know this cos I used to listen to them many many many years ago :-) ). I would be interested in your views on that verse. Cheri |

444 | during the 3 days? | Matthew | skccab | 195360
Hey Jesusman, I always thought that that statement kind of went along with what we read in Hebrews about the heavenly utensils being cleansed. That He shouldn't be touched prior to this being done in the heavenlies. |

I knew that Scofield was dispensational but didn't know that Ryrie was. Thanks for the insight. But I've reached the place where I won't use a bible that has anything more than cross-references, for that reason. Too many differing opinions!! Cheri |

Shalom SomeOtherName, Would you mind dropping me a note via email (in my profile) with those addresses? I've only been able to find 1 Messianic Jewish forum. I love SBF, but would be interested in the others as well. Much appreciated. Cheri |

447 | Can a woman divorce man: Ongoing porn? | Matthew | skccab | 212608
Hi Bandaid, Might I suggest that you can download the free software called e-Sword and then afterward as one of the modules, you can download Nave's Topical Bible (also free). This is a wonderful tool for bringing up passages in the Bible within any given topic found in the Bible. For that matter, you could try the "Search" feature here on SBF, just type in the topical words and dig in for quite a study. :o) But I'm afraid you're going to find that Keliy is right - there are no verses that give grounds for the woman to divorce, at least not where the term woman/wife/female/girl is specifically used (speaking within the framework of such versions as KJV, NKJV, NASB - possibly some of the paraphrases might be different in that area). Shalom Cheri |

448 | Can a woman divorce man: Ongoing porn? | Matthew | skccab | 212609
Hello again Bandaid, I think Doc answered this question far better than I possibly can. And you pretty much answered it yourself when you stated that the person being prayed for has to somewhere along the line open him/herself up for change. Look at the example of Lot's family - God Himself sent His own ANGELS into Lot's home to save them. It was quite evident that they were supernatural beings and still some of Lot's family (the men who were/or were to be married to his daughters) refused to believe, change and be physically saved from the destruction to come. Prayer and fasting is a good thing to do, but God will not override one's freewill to die in one's own sin - see Romans 1:18-32. Cheri |

Shalom Bandaid, I have answered to the best of my ability on the fasting and prayer question and I gave you an answer on the divorce question. I just had one more insight on the divorce issue - If you are familiar with the many do's and don't's as portrayed in the Torah, they are mostly in the male gender - but human common sense let's us know that they are speaking to the female gender as well!! Just a few examples - Exodus 23:3 "You shall not show partiality to a poor man in his dispute." Does that mean people can show partiality to a poor woman just because the term woman is not used? Of course not!! One we are all familiar with, Exodus 20:17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his femaile servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's." As we read this we realize it is not just to the men, it's for the women, too. Or is it OK for a woman to covet her neighbor's husband or anything else that belongs to her neighbor? I don't think so. Or Exodus 21:16 says "He who kidnaps a man...shall surely be put to death." Is God saying that it is OK for a man to kidnap a woman? or for a woman to kidnap a man? Of course not! It goes on and on, 'if a man...' but God must surely have meant 'if a human being or a person' in the majority of His civil laws. Just because we don't have the specific words "woman" or "female" doesn't mean the His commandments, whether for the person's benefit or not, doesn't apply to the female gender. Women are very special to God, too!! This is just a general answer to your question about divorce - only you know what really applies. Just keep in mind that God gave us brains to think for ourselves, His word to let us know what He smiles at and frowns at, His Son to cleanse us of our honest mistakes (even our not-so-honest mistakes) and His Spirit to help us know how to unjangle the many messes we seem to create for ourselves (especially before we knew Him). His Spirit will lead you in the way you are to go. Sorry I couldn't help more. :o) Cheri |

451 | Torn veil of Mat 15.38 the literal veil? | Matthew | skccab | 212674
Greetings graftedin, BTW, I love your screen name. The 'grafted in' symbol is also my favorite!! There are a few more instances recorded in the Gospels that, to my knowledge, are not corraborated in non-Biblical sources such as the slaughter of the innocents in Mt. 2:16 (perhaps there were too few babies killed in the historians' minds to be noteworthy?). And to my knowledge there was no such custom, as stated in Mt. 27:15, at Passover of releasing a prisoner (could the offer between Barabbas and Yeshua/Jesus have been the first and then became a custom, so old at the writing of the gospel that Matthew overlooked the fact that it actually was the first time it had happened?). Just because Mt. 27:51 and Mk. 15:38 is not noted in extra-Biblical sources does not mean it didn't happen. I think we're mighty fortunate to have the information that we do have as so many people would have had the whole Bible destroyed many times over if they'd had their way about it!! :o) Cheri |

452 | Torn veil of Mat 15.38 the literal veil? | Matthew | skccab | 212676
Graftedin I think you're standing among good company. I think everyone on this Forum takes that particular verse quite literally. Here I'm gonna really mess up a good saying but you'll get the gist anyway - "When the sense of the sentence makes sense, then it makes no sense to try to make some other sense of it." ???? (I hope I didn't destroy that statement tooo bad!!) :o) Cheri |

MJH, I'm glad you came around with your information cos I was thinking that perhaps the mention of the rent veil might have been recorded in the Talmud, and I don't own any of the volumes (I wish I did have them, there is much in them that help understand the full implications of NT events). And I thank you for reminding me of the rending of the clothing, I had forgotten about that!! :o) Cheri |

Good day to you, Searcher, I'm not of the "must be" groups, guess that's why I didn't recognize the name (I'm of the "why wouldn't you want to be?" groups). Thank you for the explanation, and extra info. :o) Cheri |

456 | what was meant by righteousnes grtr than | Matt 5:20 | skccab | 203170
Dear Narnia, Actually the Pharisees were following the oral law that was built upon the law of Moses. Much had been added to the do's and don't's of the original Law - so much so that it was near impossible to get it right. And the Parisees were also out to get praised by men for their piousness and righteousness, they weren't interested in pleasing God. That's why Messiah said to do what they said to do, but not the way in which they did those same things. :-) Cheri Cheri |

457 | what was meant by righteousnes grtr than | Matt 5:20 | skccab | 203172
Hiya Doc, Absolutely! There were quite a lot of the Pharisees that believed on the Lord as He walked this earth, and even more after His resurrection. I was speaking of the ones that He was wagging His finger at. I like your/Barclay's "list" and agree that we could add the word "Christian" to the it, except for the bruised-Christian would have to be one that has his eyes on heaven bumping into things, trying to be so spiritual that he/she's no earthly good :-). And there are a lot of really lovely Christians as well. Cheri |

Good morning Vonderful, Welcome to the Forum, glad to have someone up and moving at this early hour!! I'm enjoying reading your posts, but could you not use the caps key? It makes for difficult reading for old eyes. (Although logically, I'd think it would make reading the posts easier, go figure.) :-) Blessings Cheri |

Hi Vonderful, You sent this to me (I am not the one asking about NT reference to wars), you wanted to send it to John Discipleship. John D will see this, but not get the notification of a response to his original question (I got the notification because you clicked on my response.) It's a little confusing, but you'll get the hang of it soon :-). Blessings Cheri |

460 | Hatred..Am I truly a Christian?? | Matt 5:44 | skccab | 202849
Shalom Jim, We are commanded to LOVE. In this, there is no option. We are also told we must forgive or we will not receive forgiveness. Neither is there any option here. And the moment of forgiveness and salvation is NOW, not later, for we are only promised this moment. Wasting this moment we have could be prove to be very costly. Lev. 19:18 and Mat. 5:43 You shall love your neighbor as yourself - And Hillel (before Jesus time) added that all the rest (of the commandments) is just commentary. 1Jn 2:10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. 1Jn 2:11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes. 1Jn 3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. 1Jn 3:11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. 1Jn 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. 1Jn 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. 1Jn 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 1Jn 3:17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? 1Jn 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. 1Jn 3:19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. 1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 1Jn 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 1Jn 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 1Jn 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1Jn 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 1Jn 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 1Jn 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 1Jn 4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? 1Jn 4:21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. Jim, what do you do with these verses (and there are dozens more)? What do we do with the entire book of 1 John? Cheri |
