462 | The Appeal of the Crucified | Lam 1:12 | azurelaw | 201112
The Appeal of the Crucified – The Crucifixion, John Stainer ***** From the Throne of His Cross, The King of grief Cries out to a world of unbelief: “Oh! Men and women afar and nigh, Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? I laid My eternal power aside, I came from the Home of the Glorified, A babe in the lowly cave to lie. Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? I wept for the sorrows and pains of men, I healed them, and helped them, and loved them, But then, but then, they shouted against Me, ‘Crucify! Crucify! Crucify!’ Is it nothing to you? Behold Me and see: Pierced through and through with countless sorrows, And all is for you; For you I suffer, for you I die. Is it nothing to you all ye that pass by? Oh! Men and women your deeds of shame, Your sins without reason, and number, and name, I bear them all on the Cross on high. Is it nothing to you? Is it nothing to you that I bow My Head? And nothing to you that My Blood is shed? Oh! Perishing souls, to you I cry Is it nothing to you? O come unto Me, O come unto Me, O come unto Me, By the woes I have borne, by the dreadful scourge, And the crown of thorns, by these I implore you to hear My cry; Is it nothing to you? O come unto Me, O come unto Me, O come unto Me, This awful price, redemptions’ tremendous sacrifice, Is paid for you, is paid for you. Oh! For why will ye die? Why, why, will ye die? O come unto Me, O come unto Me, O come unto Me,” Respectfully submitted in sober remembrance of our Lord and Saviour’s Atonement. Shalom Azure |

Dear John, Thanks for your concern. I intended to send him another post for further help yesterday but was just too busy to do so. I will do it today. Shalom Azure |

464 | vision or physical or both | Ezek 3:14 | azurelaw | 200684
Dear Brother Doc, Thanks for your input. However, further help is needed. I have no problem with the power of the Spirit to transport anyone as in the case of Philip you cited. For the case of Ezekiel, he should be amidst of the exiles beside the river Chebar already (see 1:1) before the vision came upon him. So, do you mean that Ezekiel had been taken away to somewhere else (not recorded in the scripture) per v14 and back again to the riverside of Chebar (v15)? If that's the case, it might be much clearer to say "the Spirit lifted me up and took me away to the side of river Chebar" (I definitely have no intention to twist scriptures). Meanwhile v15 "Then I came..." is more in the sense of an active voice. So, to me, v14 and v15 appeared to be describing two individual instances - one both spiritual and physical and the other physical. (Well, this might not be a proper classificaiton, hope you understand what I mean). Perhaps I have missed something. Thanks again for enlightening this confused mind :-) Shalom Azure |

Dear Brother Doc, Thanks for your confirmation. I would have to admit that my question is not the focus of the entire chapter. As to your note about theophany (again, you taught me a new term, thanks) in your previous post with those scriptures, I completely agree with you. The Lord is Holy. Mal 3:2 "But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner's fire and like fullers' soap. Shalom Azure P.S. Perhaps you could share something about your conversion with us ONLY IF YOU WILL. |

466 | The Task of the Interpreter | Ezek 13:22 | azurelaw | 228759
Dear Brother Doc, Thank you for the quote. When I read it, I was wondering or guessing Dr. D. A. Carson could have the same thought when he wrote his introduction for his book "Exegetical Fallacies" where he warns readers to pay utmost effort, care and diligence in studying the Word, but also encourages us to work hard for improvement instead of drawing back for the avoidance of making mistake. Ignorance though sometimes could be an excuse for people to content in their comfort zone, yet, it is never regarded as a virtue. Shalom Azure |

468 | meaning of glory | Ezek 20:6 | azurelaw | 201676
Dear Brother Brad, One more question. In Exodus 3:8, 6:8, 12:25, 13:5, the description for the land of Canaan was: - a good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey - the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob - the land which the LORD will give you - a land flowing with milk and honey Here in Ezek above, it was added with "which is the glory of all lands". Was it God's purpose to make a contrast to their current shameful situation as being captives in Babylon? Again, thanks for your help in advance. Shalom Azure |

469 | origin of the devil | Ezek 28:13 | azurelaw | 184322
Dear brother Jeff and Steve (Humblebygrace), I happened to see my name's been mentioned with your kind words and compliment which I don't deserve when I am reading this interesting subject "origin of the devil" along the thread. I miss all you guys on the SFB even when I am quite busy for these few weeks with certain personal things (e.g. we have just had our celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year, my new ministry at church, reading books which takes me time to digest and ponder). Most of the time, I think I prefer reading your posts and posting my own questions instead of giving any commentary as I lack the ability (I am still learning) and speed (you guys are posting fast and doing a wonderful job, ha..ha..) even when I spot some doubtful posts. Though I was a grown-up at church, I had wasted many years without seriously studying God's Word. I always warn myself with this verse : Matt 19:30 But many who are first will be last; and the last, first. Though this is not your tradition, I would like to greet you all a very prosperous (in terms of treasure of God's kingdom) year of Pig. Shalom Azure |

Dear Jonp, Thanks for the greetings and your encouragement. First let me welcome you to the forum. I am glad that you have been to Hong Kong before. Hope you enjoyed your stay in this dynamic city. However, this is a place full of temptations as well. In this so-call affluent and modern city, people seldom consider their need of God. We, HK christians, have to work extremely hard on the mission. May God bless you and keep you always. Shalom Azure |

472 | Comments re: doing a 40 day Daniel Fast | Daniel | azurelaw | 217365
Dear Brother Doc, Just to borrow a quote (I like it very much) somewhere in your old post concerning fasting: "Do you fast? Give me proof of it by your works. If you see a poor man, take pity on him. If you see a friend being honored, do not envy him. Do not let only your mouth fast, but also the eye and the ear and the feet and the hands and all the members of our bodies. Let the hands fast, by being free of avarice. Let the feet fast, by ceasing to run after sin. Let the eyes fast, by disciplining them not to glare at that which is sinful. Let the ear fast, by not listening to evil talk. Let the mouth fast from foul words and unjust criticism. For what good is it if we abstain from birds and fishes, but bite and devour our brothers? May He who came to the world to save sinners strengthen us to complete the fast with humility, have mercy on us and save us." --John Chrysostom Shalom Azure |

475 | so what's the big deal about pride? | Dan 4:37 | azurelaw | 199494
Amen, Brother John. Thank you for sharing. Reading your note triggers my memory to the book "The Experience That Counts" by Jonanthan Edwards that makes me mindful of Satan's trick (2 Cor 11:14)... "Spiritual humiliation is the essence of Christian self-denial...he must deny his natural self-righteousness and self-centredness...is the hardest to do... "...the proud man tends to think very highly of his humility, whereas the truly humble man thinks of himself as very proud! This is because the proud man and the humble man have different views of themselves. We measure a man's humiliation by our view of his proper dignity and greatness. If a king knelt down to remove the shoe of another king, we would consider this an act of self-abasement, and so would the king who did it. By contrast, if a slave knelt down to remove the shoe of his king, nobody would think that a great act of self-abasement, or a sign of great humility. The slave himself would not think so, unless he were ridiculously conceited... "The proud man is like the conceited slave. He thinks it a great sign of humility to confess his unworthiness before God...If he had a proper view of himself, he would rather feel astonished and ashamed that he was not more humbled before God. "The truly humble man never feels that he has sufficiently asbased himself before God. He feels that however low he bends, he could bend lower. He always feels that he is above his proper position before God. He looks at his position, and looks at where he should be, and he appears at a great distance from it. He calls the distance 'pride'. It is his pride that appears to him to be great, not his humility. It does not seem to him to be a great sign of his humility that he should lie in the dust at the feet of God. He thinks that is exactly where he belongs." - Jonathan Edwards Always love sharing with you. Shalom Azure |

477 | "a" or "the"? | Dan 7:13 | azurelaw | 219121
Dear CDBJ and Tim, Hmmm...bad for me...I've already found it hard to grasp the grammatcal rule of English, now...it involves both Greek and Hebrew :-( Please bear with me - this little Chinese woman. Well, my point for asking the question, when the phrase use the indefinite article "a", does it attribute to the implication that there is more than one "Son of Man" for (as far as I could understand) it usually mean the ONLY/SPECIFIC one when "the" (definite article) is used. So, in this case, what does Daniel's message convey in the sense of the Only Son of Man? Thanks again for your help. Shalom Azure |

478 | Phony Repentance | Hosea | azurelaw | 210323
Our repentance must be authentic because phony confession will produce phony results. If you say that you repented before and God didn’t heal you, I would say that yours was a phony, external confession only. We find an example of a phony confession in Hosea 6:1-3, where God’s people say, "Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds. After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence. Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth." What do you notice about this confession? There is no mention of the sin these people had committed against God. They thought God’s grace is cheap and easy to obtain. But this is phony repentance, and it will not bring about true healing. Let me assure you, if you have not met with God and received your healing, you must conclude that your confession was phony and, therefore, there was no result. God refuses to heal, to change, and to transform us on the basis of externalism and superficiality. God himself says this in Hosea 6:4, "What can I do with you, Ephraim? What can I do with you, Judah? Your love is like the morning mist, like the early dew that disappears." In other words, theirs was not a heartfelt, enduring love for God. It was something they did in the morning but by noon it is gone. Thus, their repentance was fleeting and false, and such repentance will never bring true healing. We cannot fool God. --- P.G. Matthew |

Dear keliy, Welcome to the forum. Glad to see you do not act only as are silent reader, but also post on the forum and thank you very much for the sharing. The sad and foolish part is ... we always forget or are not satisfied with the fact that we are just a lump of clay. We either want to confront the potter's work or to take the potter's place. Amen to that "...every transgression we must repent, with a heart-felt promise to return completely to Him. Not for our benefit, but entirely for His glory." Hope you stay around and continue to share with us :-) Shalom Azure |
