Hank:: Thank you for your responce. Sorry for the mistake, I used "text proof" because that is what I read in a post form St John. Your example), "a favorite proof text used by promoters of baptismal regeneration is Acts 2:38" What makes the verse you have cited, out of context, in relation to the context, of the chapter in which it has been used? I'm not fully grasping the way in which this "proof text" thing really works. If a verse is taken out of context, it is to me just out of context, but calling it a "proof text" makes it sound more egregious. In the instance you use the term, is it because the text being used, is to define some sort of doctrinal belief? If this is what you are talking about, then wouldn't it be better to call it a Doctrinal Text. (you say) Genesis 6:14 provides a dramatic example of how misleading proof texting can be. Suppose we remove the verse from its natural context and interpret it soley on the basis of the command it contains. How about instead of doing that, we take the original verse you cited. "a favorite proof text used by promoters of baptismal regeneration is Acts 2:38" Are you saying, if we remove the verse from its natural context, and interpret it solely on the basis of the command it contains, in an attempt to use it in promoting the doctrine of baptismal regeneration, it then falls into the category of "proof text" is that correct? I am assuming, you are using the term baptismal regeneration, for another more well known term, being born again? (Questions) 1- If said verse is left exactly where it has always been, does it then leave the "proof text" penalty box? 2- If so then now being left in it's original context, what changes about it's meaning, understanding when it retains it's position, within the context of the whole chapter, that it can no longer be used, by a promoter of the doctrine of baptismal regeneration? 3- Is this verse ever put forward, to promote any other doctrinal belief? 4- Having then left the verse in question, in it's original contextual position, how is this verse now to be interpreted, in the context of the chapter in which it appears? I have heard it said, the Jews do not read "Isaiah 53" in the Synagogues. Does that constitute a "proof text" to them, or is it just something they Do Not want to see, acknowledge because if they did, they would then have to deal, with just what it did say? I agree whole heartedly with your following statements. If we do not handle the word of God righteously, by arguing over the doctrinal differences that divide us, rather than "honestly contending" to find the truth in God's word, regardless wether it fits our doctrine or not, then "WE" become the ones deceived. (you say) We can "prove" or "disprove" about any doctrinal position we wish if we handle God's word recklessly and abuse it to further our own suppositional errors. In his second letter to Timothy, Paul charged him to "be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth" (2 Tim. 2:15). And indeed those who do not accurately handle the word of truth have every reason to be ashamed. God Bless Brother Nevvvvine |

Hi Azure:: Just for clarification, would this following statement fall into the catigory of speculation, when there isn't any difinative proof one way, or the other? Note the beginning of the statement (some think). Some think the music the prophet called for is that sort the Greeks call "harmony," which is the gravest and saddest, and settles the affections: In Peace Nevvvvine |

3 | Accept , Reject ? | NT general | Nevvvvine | 211577
Hi justme: you say: This may seem trifle, but we don't "accept" Christ. We must surrender to Christ. To surrender to the calling of the Holy Spirit who convicts us of our sinfullness and our need to surrender to the Love, Mercy, Grace of Gods love and pardon by His one and only Son Jesus Christ. Most misunderstood is the fact Jesus accepts us just as we are. answer: I agree whole heartedly, Jesus does accept us just as we are, but that, still does not mean, we can't reject him as many do. True we do surrender to the calling of the Holy Spirit, His convicting us of our sins, and the revealing of Jesus to us as savior. But the accepting of Jesus, or the surrendering to the Holy Spirit, are 2 sides of the same coin. The Value of that coin is determined by our decision. We either inherit the Kingdom, or eternal damnation. For even an Enemy on a battlefield has to exert his will to surrender, because surrender is not a process that can take place without a decision being made. We do have to decide to surrender, accepting the conditions of that surrender. example: There was a rich young ruler that called Jesus Good, so he knew what he was saying was life, but when this good Jesus said, sell all give to the poor, this young man rejected the offer to become perfect. So in essance I am saying, I agree with what you have said, we do have a "free will", we can accept, reject, surrender, or refuse to surrender. Blessings In Christ Nevvvvine |

Hi keliy: Just read the thread, here are my thoughts if I may. The Lot being cast, was always to give to God the preeminance, in the decision making process, that there would not arise any preferance "for, or against, or by any man". All those taking part in the process of casting the lot, would agree to the final outcome, as being Gods Will. We in the christian world have done the same. Matt. 6:9,10 9) After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10) Thy kingdom come, "THY WILL BE DONE" in earth, as it is in heaven. The differance between us, and them. Eph. 5:20 20) "Giving thanks always for all things" unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Blessings In Christ Nevvvvine |

The following statement, was made to me, in referance to MY User Profile. It was not origionaly made by KELIY. "I just read your profile, and I totally agree with your statement that most adherents to a specific denomination believe." "We have the truth, and all others are deceived" Is there one person in this Forum that can honestly disagree with my statement? I base this observation on the fact we have so many different denominations. Each one having there own set of Doctrines, and the Commintaries to prove there Doctrinal Positions. (Ergo, "We have the Truth") Did not Jesus himself teach, Mark 3:25 25) And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. So when we attempt to correct one another, are we doing it out of a love for the bretheren, for the sake of the truth to be found in the word of God, or is it that "our" Doctrinal beliefs differ from the one posting. We should always examine our motives, then reread our post, letting the Holy Spirit Censor those things that do not edify, before we attempt to correct. Mark 7:16 16) If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. 2 Tim. 3:16 16) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: Jer. 5:21 21) Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not: Matt. 15:16 16) And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding? Matt. 12:34 34) O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? (For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.) Luke 6:45 45) A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: (for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.) Mark 7:15,20-23 15) There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: (but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.) 20) And he said, (That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.) 21) For from within, (out of the heart of men), (proceed evil thoughts), adulteries, fornications, murders, 22) Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, (pride, foolishness:) 23) All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. Col. 4:6 6) (Let your speech be always with grace), (seasoned with salt), that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. Gal. 5:15 15) (But if ye bite and devour one another), (take heed that ye be not consumed one of another). James 3 1) My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. 2) For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. 3) Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. 4) Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. 5) Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! 6) And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. 7) For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8) But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9) Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 10) Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. 11) Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? 12) Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. 13) Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. 14) But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. 15) This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 16) For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. 17) But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 18) And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. 9 | How does God judge and who? | Obad 1:16 | Nevvvvine | 211184
Hi BOB, and JOHN:: It seems there is an answer to both of your positions. Bob you say: When he was tempted in every way that we are, he could not use one ounce of his deity to resist it or he would have an advantage over us in facing temptation. So his perfect life puts us to shame since we should have been able to resist as well. answer: Your infference, is mixed with apples, and oranges You use scripture that was to a person (Abram) before there was LAW, and then to a people under the law "were not". The Holy Spirit is the Unifying factor, between Jesus, and us. Giving to (both) from the POWER of God himself, the ability to overcome temptation, because we are in Jesus, Matt. 3:16 16) And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: Act 1:8 8) But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” John you say: Hi Bob, can you show us please just where in scripture is says that "we should have been able to resist" temptation, as you say? answer: We as unsaved (unregenerated) human beings, have no power in our lives to resist anything! So what you said to Bob is correct as far as that goes. Although there is scripture for us who "Do" believe. Gal. 5:16 16) This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. In Love Nevvvvine |

Hi again Bob: It would help in the future to post the name of who you are answering, to avoid confusion. Men in themselves do not have the ability to resist temptation, this only becomes true after salvation. God bless Nevvvvine |

12 | Did Jonah die in the belly of the fish? | Jon 2:2 | Nevvvvine | 211931
Hi all: Isn't it strange, when we think of it, Jonah was the only Prophet of God, sent to a Gentile People! Jonah 1 1) Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2) Arise, go to (Nineveh), that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. I added brackets It doesn't say whether Jonah died, or not. We can assume any kind of scenario we want, but at the end of the day, it all comes down to speculation doesn't it? Have a good day Nevvvvine |

13 | Did Jonah die in the belly of the fish? | Jon 2:2 | Nevvvvine | 211932
Hi Val: Just for clarification, as soon as Jonah was cast into the sea, it was calmed. When Jonah got to Ninevah, the people had already repented, and he got ("MAD") not depressed. Jonah wanted God to destroy them, because of all he had gone through, he was sooooooo mad he sat down until God did distroy them, and ended up with sun stroke. In Gods Love Nevvvvine |

14 | Did Jonah die in the belly of the fish? | Jon 2:2 | Nevvvvine | 211950
Hi again All: Jonah 1:12-17 Still keeping things clear First we see in vs.12 (so shall the sea be calm unto you): Then in vs.15 (and the sea ceased from her raging). Lastly we see in vs.17 (Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah). The sea was calmed Instantainiously, and there was a whale ready for the task, to which he was ordained by God. Jonah was in no danger of drowning. Jonah 3:3-10 In vs. 3 it says the city was a 3 day journey, then in vs.4 we see on the first day he spoke to people, it seems they went ahead of him spreading the word, further on in vs.6 so before Jonah got there the King heard of it and proclamed a fast, vs.7 even for the animals. vs.10 God repents of the evil. Jonah 4:1-11 In vs.1 Maby I'm not reading correctly but "ANGRY" does mean the same as "MAD" doesn't it ?Next vs.2 Jonah declairs why he is angry, because God is kind, gracious, merciful, and yes he does ask to die. vs.4 God just tells him you have a right to be angry "mad" my word. vs.5 Then we see Jonahs anger put into action, he sits down defiantly wating for God to move. In vrs. 6,7 God makes a gourd to demonstrate a point to Jonah. "I" do as I please, "I AM" God! vs. 8 God causes Jonah to faint because of the sun, and a vehement heat. Again in vs.9 God tells Jonah your right to be angry, Jonah answers God with a smart mouth, still angry. So in vs.10,11 God explains to Jonah, "WHY" He has done what he has. Your right it is a short book, now that you have read it again do you see what I was saying? Regardless what most Scholars may believe, doesn't their belief still come down to speculation also? The point isn't whether or not they finally came to a full repentance after 100 yrs. The story is about the time stated, and they did repent at that time, thats why Jonah was Mad, and wanted them destroyed. Look at all he had gone through, knowing all along that God would do exactly, as He did. Jonah is in essance saying, look God, I didn't want to come here in the first place, knowing you would forgive them, I felt it was a wast of time on my part, It isn't fair, putting me through all the things you have, I want them to be Destroyed, and I will wait right here until you do! As far as dying, I believe Jonah really thought he was going to die. Therefore he was pleading with God to save his soul from the PIT. I am sure while he was in the belly of the whale, he did go down to the bottoms of the mountains. To the depths of the seas. God Bless Nevvvvine |

Hi bandaid: better late than never This scripture came to mind, while reading the thread Eph.6:10-12 10) Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11) Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. The way I see it, Mankind is surrounded by the forces of satan, a War is being waged on a momentary basis for the Minds, Bodies, Souls of Mankind. It has been stated, that we cannot be possed because we have the Holy Spirit, but we have also been set free, because we are dead to the Flesh, alive to the Spirit, We have been given weapons, that are mighty, to the tearing down of strongholds, ie,(schizophrenia) God Bless Nevvvvine |

19 | The Author's Role | Acts 16:11 | Nevvvvine | 211438
Hi John: Paul was not a disciple of Christ, as Luke was, Paul was a Pharisee, then on his way to Damascus, he was knocked off his horse, and Effectivly DRAFTED into the Service of God. But as you say , it does not give us a reason as to why they went in different directions. Acts 22:3-8 3)I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day. 4)And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women. 5)As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished. 6)And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me. 7)And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 8)And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest. In Gods Love Nevvvvine |

Hi John:: Exxxxcuuuuuuse me!!! In reading your post, it appeared as though you were saying, Luke, and Paul were both disciples, in the sence they had both walked together with Christ, during His ministry on Earth. To use your own words: "How diligent we must be when giving out His Word, or information about His Word," Which is exactly the reason I posted to you. The person asking the question did not appear, from the question itself, or the way it was asked, that they were very learned in the Bible (a novice). Would you not say? All I was attempting to do, was to clarify for the poster, also to bring to your attention, there could be an assumption made that would be false. My only motive was to correct. On the grounds of my personal experience, of some people I have met, believing that all of the Apostles, including PAUL, HAD walked with Christ. If you took my honest correction, as a personal attack, or an affront to your biblical knowledge, or your intellectual ability in reading a dictionary I truly apologize. But there was nothing in my post to you that could be taken as either, it was only one sentence, and then my agreement with you! Again Sorry Nevvvvine |
