1141 | Holy Spirit without evidence of tongues? | Acts | CDBJ | 19265
DLD, what if it is an utter impossibility for a person to be water baptized? Lets say that I am in an orbit around the Earth and through reading a Bible, that a fellow astronaut has, that I truly believe in Jesus Christ, that He died for all my sins. I tell God in a little prayer that I believe in His Son Jesus. That from now on I will turn from my past way and receive Jesus as my Lord and Savior. The problem is that there isn't enough water hardly to drink, much less be baptized. It so happens that the ship burns up the next day while trying to get back to Earth. Now where do I go, heaven or hell? If you would like there are many other examples that one could site, like being in the World trade center on a coffee break reading a Bible at eight in the morning and believing in Christ. Through out the book of John, God promises eternal life, to those who will trust His Son. He does not mention that they should be water baptized before during or after. I know that the other verses are in the Bible, but have you ever heard of a parenthetical phrase. There is a good example in Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. The baptizing didn't have anything to do with it. I told my son, when he was young, that if he ate good healthy foods that some day, when he got on the scales, he would weigh 200 lbs. Now if you don't know what a parenthetical phrase is, you would try to convince my son that getting on the scales, along with the food would make him weigh 200 Lb. He would be 200 lbs. even if he didn't get on the scales. The big problem is that the consequences of adding something that you can do, water baptism, to the work that God did through His son, can have disastrous effect on ones future. In effect if I were to take this position, I would be telling Jesus that His work on the cross wasn't enough, I would like to add a little something that I can do, so that I deserve a little credit. Friend I tell you this in love, be very careful about doing anything other then trusting in Jesus; God is not impressed with anything we do, He is only impressed with what His Son did! If you want eternal life, the Bible says to trust in Jesus and this has to be 100 percent for salvation. I have been baptized in water, but not for the reason that you say the Bible is expressing. If you don't believe this you better study John 20:30,31 because I am not able to reveal it to you. In Him, CDBJ

1143 | Does speaking in tongues come naturally? | Acts | CDBJ | 92355
Dear Ken hepting, I perceive that you are very knowledgeable of Scripture; as a result, do you think it is remotely possible that what Paul was speaking about in First Cor. 13:1-8 could cover the way one might answered a fellow believer, with emphasis on verses four and five? 1 Cor. 13:1-8 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. 4Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. Just curious, CDBJ |

Friend I think you are missing the whole point and I will say no more other then the following. To your response on the previous post. For starters had God wanted to use another word for the nominative, feminine, singular, in verse four, for the noun AGAPE, I am sure it would have been no problem for Him to do so; but He didn’t! What I was trying to point out to you, in a casual fashion, is that you have verbally insulted and belittled a brother on the forum with your snide answer to a question and have upset some on the forum. 1 Peter 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Your’s in Love, CDBJ |

1145 | Salvation Poll | Acts | CDBJ | 235893
A poll which only confuses the issue isn’t needed, i.e. human viewpoint. The main crux is, thus says the Word of the Lord. It is often found within the text of Holy writ what is known as a parenthetical phrase or clause. These are not necessary words or phrases as they don’t actually contribute to the truth conveyed by the main subject of the sentence. If we were talking about math, namely fractions, it would be the same as boiling everything down to its most common denominator for a single truth. The simplest fact of salvation is as follows. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved. The proof of this is found in actually by observance of the thief on the cross and Christ’s response to him. At the beginning he was in league with the other thief but then he had a change of mind as to the person of the Lord Jesus Christ as he called Him Lord or (KORIOS) in the Koine Greek of the Scripture. Luke 23:42-43 (NASB) 42 And he was saying, "Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!" 43 And He said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise." (And he was saying,)as in the previous verse is broken down like this. It's in the indicative mood, imperfect tense, active voice of the verb (ELEGEN) from the root word (LEGO). The indicative mood means reality or certainty, the imperfect tense informs us of something we don’t find in the English translation, i.e. he literally kept on saying, Jesus remember me when You come in Your kingdom, Jesus remember me when You come in Your kingdom, Jesus remember me when You come in Your kingdom, The active voice means that the thief produced the action of the verb. The next question many might ask is this, when did the thief repent? This is, “one of,” the most misunderstood verbs in the Bible. Repent comes to us from the Koine Greek verb (METANOEO) it’s a compound word that means to have a change of thinking or a change of mind and it has absolutely nothing to do with being sorry for sin! God isn’t impressed with how we feel about sin all He considers is what His Son did for those sins. Nothing we can do will ever impress God; the only thing that He is impressed with is the work that Jesus Christ His unique Son finished on the cross for those sins!!! Anything anyone adds to “faith alone” in Jesus Christ “alone” and what He did on the cross is barking up the wrong tree and they better get their eyes off of themselves and get them fixed on the person of God’s Precious Son before it’s too late. God’s policy is strictly by GRACE through FAITH and that is in His Son and nothing at all from us, Jesus did it all, all to Him I owe. This is not open for discussions take it or leave it! I will not respond, CDBJ |

Hi EdB, You’ve been around here a long time, It appears like everybody on the forum is getting bent out of shape this last month, I haven’t seen it this bad in the 11 or so years that I’ve been on the forum; what gives? What’s the big deal on theology, all it is, is a catch all and it’s a compound word from the Greek “Theos” - God and lology - study of and it more or less lumps it all together. Doctrines on the other hand are the individual topics found in Scripture grouping verses covering the numerous individual topics as one group including everything on that subject. Example, which I know for sure you know, but for the benefit of others. Eschatology, Pneumatology, Soteriology, Harmatology, Thanatology etc. etc. odd infinite item and the list goes on and on! It seems lately like people feel as though they are all being picked on or something; are you noticing this same vibe; it’s either that or some are carrying an awful big chip on their shoulder? Have fun in the Word, CDBJ |

Hi Again EdB, On the subject of "written theology"; years ago I use to get audio tapes from a fellow that lived in Arizona and his name was Larry Wright and he was a fabulous teacher with the most relaxed manner about him, he’s at home with the Lord now. Anyway he was talking, or should I say witnessing, to a fellow one day about the Bible and Christ and the guy said, with a frown on his face, “I don’t believe the Bible because it was “written by man”. Now Larry was the type that would come out with thing that people would say later; “wow I wish I had thought of that”, you know the type, very quick witted. Any way, he came right back and blurted out, “Well who did you expect to write it; “A DUCK?” That one has stuck with me for years. Well thanks for the comeback and Happy Valentines Day to you and all, CDBJ |

1149 | It's up to the believer to be filled, HS | Acts | CDBJ | 236132
Greetings, Every believer at the point of trusting in Jesus Christ for their salvation receives 39 irrevocable absolutes and 1 revocable absolute. Compiled by Lewis Sperry Chafer, Dallas Theological Seminary revised by R.B. Thieme jr. Dallas Theological Seminary We are filled with the Spirit at the point of salvation but when believers commit that first act of sin after salvation the total filling and control of the Spirit is quenched and the believer is instructed to fill this deficiency. The only thing that grieves or quenches the Spirit is when the believer sins; the only way to recover from that condition is the exercise of 1 John 1:9 (NKJV) 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. No believer is ever totally free of their Old Sin Nature until they are removed from their present physical body by death or the rapture. All believers at any one point in time are either carnal or spiritual, it is an absolute, which means it is either 100 percent one way or the other, and there is no 25percent carnal and 75 percent spiritual or 50/50 as it were. What this means is that ones old sin nature is in control 100 percent of the time or the Holy Spirit is 100 percent in control. Anything that the believer does in the way of works for rewards, will be awarded at the Judgment seat of Christ shortly after the resurrection of the believers body when Christ returns for His bride the church. The efforts of working for Christ in any form must come from the influence or guiding of the Holy Spirit not from the dictates of ones old sin nature commonly referred to as the flesh. The Koine Greek word (SARX) is used interchangeably for the flesh, the old sin nature and the word carnal. The all represent the believer being dictated to by their old sin nature and is the energy of the flesh in action. If there is any unconfessed sin in the believers life the efforts performed are from the old sin nature and they will be burned up like wood, hay and straw. The works performed while in fellowship or under the control of the Holy Spirit will be counted at the judgment seat of Christ as gold, silver and precious stones and these don’t burn. 1 Corinthians 3:8-15 (NKJV) Paul is speaking here: 8 Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor. 9 For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, you are God's building. 10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. This is not a judgment for sins, that was all accomplished at the cross on the person of Jesus Christ, God’s appointed one, He took our sins on Himself and the Father judged them in His Son; salvation is a done deal and Jesus paid the full price! Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV) 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. Ephesians 5:18 (NKJV) 18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, The word dissipation is translated from the Koine Greek word (ASOTIA) and it infers that the one filled with wine is under its control and acting like the unsaved. ASOTIA is a compound word the first part (A) is what’s known as the alpha privative or a negative in the Greek, it is coupled with (SOZO) which is where we get the word saved, i.e. those under the influence of to much wine are dictated to by the wine and acting as an unsaved person. The word (but) in, (but be filled) is the Koine (ALLA) and is a contrastive conjunction which say, don’t be controlled buy the wine (but) be filled with and controlled by the Holy Spirit! CDBJ |

1153 | True repentance | Acts 2:38 | CDBJ | 62506
That was a great post on repentance. I lot of people think that to repent means to be sorry. I would like to add a verse to your post. 2 Cor. 7:10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. The word for repented here is as follows. ametameletos, from Greek 1 (a) (as a negative particle) and a presumed derivative of Greek 3338 (metamellomai); irrevocable without repentance, not to be repented of. Notice what the sorrow of the world brings death. It is wordly because it is sorrow without Jesus being involved. Metanoeo carries a directional connotation, from something to something. For the repentance to be effective it must be a change of mind about the person of Jesus Christ. It is interesting to note the repentance and faith are two sides of the same coin, you can’t have one with out the other if it is going to work. |

1154 | To be saved must we be baptised? | Acts 2:38 | CDBJ | 77037
Greetings Timothy Paul, Romans 10:9 can be even more concentrated to bring out the truth about salvation. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Notice in the next verse the absence of water baptism, good works, confession with the mouth and anything else people would like to get hung up on. 1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. Plain, pure, and unencumbered by something we do, that’s grace! There are some on this forum that are trying to encourage the same thing that Paul was trying to discourage in Galatians. Galatians 1:6-7 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. Anytime the focus is diverted from Jesus and what he did to something we can do to supposedly help the plan of salvation causes believers to fall from their steadfastness in Christ, be careful. 1155 | To be saved must we be baptised? | Acts 2:38 | CDBJ | 78162
Hi Tim, I came across a section on the Internet the other day that makes a lot of sense by Charles T. Buntin. In all the vastness of our world, in all of the diversity of religious beliefs, there are only two essential types of belief, works and Grace. There seem to be many differences between the world’s religions, but they are all essentially the same they all center around human works. All involve human beings accomplishing a task or set of tasks to achieve a goal and receive a reward. The tasks may be different, the goal may have differing names, and the reward may be called many things (Heaven Paradise, Nirvana), but the principle underlying all of them is the same Quid Pro Quo, which is Latin for this for that. In the world’s religions, salvation (righteousness, oneness with the Infinite, perfect nothingness, or whatever is the term in a particular religion) is earned by what one does. Unfortunately, within this group of religions based on human effort are many species of religion that go by the name of Christianity. Paradigm 1:Works (Followed by most religions, including much of so-called Christianity.) World Religions Pseudo Christian Version We work our way to God, salvation, Nirvana, Paradise In salvation, we are returned to where Adam was before the Fall. God (or whatever represents deity) judges our progress as we go along Even after salvation, We still have God as our Judge Attainment of Godhood, salvation, Paradise, Nirvana depends upon us Our will and our efforts determine whether or not we go to heaven Paradigm 2: Salvation by GRACE 1) Salvation is 100 percent a work of God we are unable, because of our bondage to sin and rebellion, to do anything meriting God’s favor. (2) God reaches down to save people He conceived the plan, He sent His Son to accomplish the plan He does 100 percent of the work. (3) When we experience what the Bible calls the New Birth (Jn 3:3-8), we are then SAVED, we pass from death to life (Eph 2:1-6, Jn 5:24, 6:40, 6:47). (4) As a part of the gift of Salvation, we become adopted children of God (Gal 3:26-4:7). (5) When we sin, God deals with us as a Father to a child (Heb 12:4-8). (6) God’s Grace and actions are the determining factors in our salvation, even to include His working in our lives to develop a lifestyle consistent with salvation. (Eph 2:8-10, Phil. 2:12-13) You might ask, If this is all a work of God, where do I fit in the process? The answer is you must believe, you must exercise faith in Christ for salvation. (Rom 10:9-13, Acts 16:30-31). This exercise is not a work, however, because is involves no ability on our part and no effort on our part. That is the hard thing to understand about faith it is not an action, it is a surrender, a throwing up of the hands and saying, I can do nothing in myself. Tim, I think one of the big problems is that we get into discussions with people that have studied the Bible and have verses that they use to back up their pet humanistic assumptions but if they aren’t truly saved yet by GRACE they can’t really know what the truth is and no matter how hard we try they will never understand us until God reveals the truth to them. Since God resist arrogance they probably never will come to the knowledge of the truth because they are still depending on their doing something no matter how much they use the name of Jesus and falsely claim they are trusting in him. Matthew 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. Until the Father reveals truth to them we are like beating our heads on a brick wall. People cannot comprehend the function of God’s grace until He does the work in them; it is the same as trying to talk to a dead man, they can’t hear it. 1 Cor. 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1156 | To be saved must we be baptised? | Acts 2:38 | CDBJ | 78177
There are going to be a lot of surprised people when Jesus responds to the many wonderful works that were all done in conjunction with his name. Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. John 14:7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. John 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. John 14:20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. There are those that have accused me of being narrow minded because I can’t see thing their way but the problem is their way leads to death. Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. CDBJ |

1157 | To be saved must we be baptised? | Acts 2:38 | CDBJ | 78180
Friend, don’t be fooled by the book of James the works come after salvation not before. If ones nature has changed so will his life and the works will be automatic; works are a result not a means. Grace does all the work and it works it’s way out of the believer. Ephes. 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we (believers) should walk in them. A pig is a pig because of his nature; you can work and clean him up all you want and even put a nice little bow on it but it will return to the mud every chance it gets because it didn’t get a new nature it’s still a pig at heart. 2 Cor. 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. A man isn’t a new creature because of his works, he is a new creature because of his position in Christ. God the Father places individuals in Christ by grace through faith in his Son: Not by any form of works, should some dare to boast about or anything they have done like baptism, good work, walking an aisle, the list is a mile long. Anything that a person cares to do other then trust in the finish work of Jesus is not grace but works. There is nothing that we can do that will impress God! The only thing the God is impressed with is what his precious Son did for us. Those that try to do anything to add to the saving work of Jesus will not come under his protection of saving grace because if they did it wouldn’t be grace it would be earned. It is not 99 percent Jesus and 1 percent us. It must be 100 percent trust in Jesus and believers zero or they won’t be counted as a believer! If people don’t understand this they better get on their knees and do a lot of praying for wisdom before it’s too late. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved!!! CDBJ |

1159 | Water baptism unnecessary for conversion | Acts 2:38 | CDBJ | 113770
You said, “Yes, you receive the Spirit and are saved during baptism in water”. My Bible says, “That there is a specific order for salvation, first the gospel, with no mention of water, then believing in that gospel, no mention of water, then we are sealed with the Spirit, still no mention of water. Why, according to what my Bible says that means I could be saved anyplace in this universe just so long as I had the ability to think and make a decision to believe the gospel about Jesus! Even in the middle of a desert while dying of thrust with no water around. I guess the gospel is good news, as long as I don’t add stuff to it and make it a different gospel. This is how My Bible reads, Ephes. 1:12-13 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, I would suppose that your translation reads as follows from what you are telling me. Ephes. 1:12-13 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first were water baptized in Christ. 13In that ye also trusted, after that ye were water baptized for your salvation: in that water also after that ye were dunked, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, I don’t think so!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Galatians 1:6-9 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. The real baptisms are dry, of which there are only two, the wet baptism is only a ritual, don’t pervert the gospel by making water baptism a part of God’s salvation plan. Anything that man can do besides thinking and believing in the finished work of God for salvation abrogates the plan of God for that person! God only will receive praise for mans salvation package. Man is only asked by God to think. Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. Friend, if you are truly saved and with that kind of biblical distortion on water baptism, you are saved in spite of water baptism not because of it! Have a nice day, CDBJ |
