Welcome to the forum, I was going to start of by saying Hi Water, but I starter laughing and decided to change it. I think the answer to your question resides in a verse found in I Cor. 1 Cor. 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. What this is telling us is that until a person is actually born of the Spirit, the things contained in God’s Word won’t make any sense to them. Jesus said this same thing in the book of John. John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. The word see, in the English comes to us from the Koine Greek word EIDO; and it means perception or understanding. The best thing that anyone can do to help someone understand Scripture is to expound on the person of Jesus and what he has done for them so that they will put all of their faith and trust in Him and as a result God will cause them to be born again. John 3:7-8 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. The key to understanding the whole Bible resides in the person of Jesus, the Son of God. John 20:30-31 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. Hi Michelle, I have been out of town for a while and now I am back on my own PC and it is a little easer. In your post you mentioned, “As along we repent for our sins we will have that chance of eternal life. But just believing will not give you that. A serial killer can believe in Jesus Christ, but in order to have internal life, he has to repent for his sins and turn his life around for the good!” What is you connotation of repent, what do you mean when you say repent and what is the have a CHANCE that you speak of? Suppose some one has committed 52,497 sins in their life and they are only 17 years old. Now that person hears the gospel message about Jesus and wants to repent, what do they have to do to be saved or have eternal life? CDBJ |

Well I must say God's ways sure are above my ways, but everything I have said is biblical. God isn't impressed with anything that I do, He is only impressed with what His Son did for me. What could I ever do to improve on God's plan? NOTHING, I just believe it and rest in the finished work of Christ and as a result God my Father has assured me of eternal life with Him. CDBJ |

Hi Hank, It’s funny to me that you should mention that little song that so many children have heard. That was the very song that ran through my head when I first accepted Christ as my personal Savior back in 1965. I had never heard the gospel message as a youth but I had heard that song, back when I was just a pup. When I started reading the New Testament that song just keep running through my mind. Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so. Isn’t the Lord just precious! John 6:39-40 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. 40And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. Our God is an awesome God, CDBJ |

Hi Michelle, The word hope, as used in the New Testament comes to us from the Koine Greek word ELPIS. Col. 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Titus 3:7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. The word for ELPIS translated hope in the English, doesn’t mean, I hope so, it actually means an earnest expectation that we look forward to; It’s a finished thing that is sure! The reason that it is a sure thing is because Jesus did ALL the work that it takes to have eternal life, and it doesn’t depend on anything that we can do except put all of our trust in Him! Please realize what this is saying. 1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. Notice, we are permitted to know right here and now. Check out the following. Who are the ones that this verse was written to? Answer. Those that believe in the Son of God. They are the ones that know that they have eternal life because God has revealed it to them. On the other hand, if one doesn’t know for sure that they have eternal life, it is because they don’t fully believe in the Son yet and God hasn’t revealed it to them! If one doesn’t know that they have eternal life, right here and now it’s because they don’t really believe what God is telling them. When the amount of faith and trust, in Jesus is reached for salvation, God will come and dwell in you and He will automatically place you in the protection of His Son and you will become a new creature in Christ. The word faith or believe in the Greek means a total commitment and reliance upon, not just an acknowledgment of something. It’s like believing that a chair, is in fact a chair. The problem is just believing it a chair won’t do you any good until you sit in and depend on it to hold you up! When one puts ALL of their faith in Jesus for salvation God will give you His Spirit at that point and you will know that you have eternal life, right there and then. Matthew 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. Ephes. 1:12-13 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, The word gospel actually means the GOOD NEWS and the good news is that God has done a great work for you in the person of His Son and you can know right now that you have eternal life because it depends on what Jesus did, not something that you are trying to do and can’t! When one truly believed in Jesus for their salvation God the Father places them in the person of His Son. From then or when God looks at you he sees Jesus and His perfect righteousness and not our sins. 2 Cor. 5:21 For he hath made him, JESUS, to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. When a person is in Christ they are declared perfect in God’s eyes. Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 12:5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Why don’t you tell God the Father that you are going to believe in His Son right now then read the book of John and let God reveal His truth and give you the peace of mind about your eternal life? Have a great day IN Christ, CDBJ |

Hi MichelleH, me again, I have got some fantastic new for you if you are willing to believe what God says in his Word, the Bible. Read the book of John in the New Testament and focus on what God promises! Here are a few examples that you can claim. John 3:16-18 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Do you know that none of us will ever be good enough to make it to heaven? As far as God is concerned there is no good that we can do. Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: Romans 3:12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. We are all sinners is God’s eyes and have earned the wages of death or separation from him for all eternity. But God did something for us that we couldn’t do for ourselves! Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; God has a plan for us and it all revolves around his special Son Jesus. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Michelle, did you catch in this last verse that God has a gift for you? It’s eternal life and it’s a gift; that means we can’t work for it because if we try to work for it we would get wages and that means death. Gifts are free and so is eternal life, but it only free to those who will accept it. Someone else had to pay for your eternal life and that is where Jesus comes in. Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Grace, as mentioned in the Bible, means we can’t earn it and we sure don’t deserve it. God dose all the work through his Son Jesus on our behalf on the cross, he was your substitute and died personally for you! The only thing that God wants you to do is put all of your faith and trust and expectation for eternal life in his Son. God say, if you will do this, then he will give you eternal life as a gift and Jesus will come into you and dwell with you of ever. Ephes. 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Now is that a great deal or what??? Here is my most favorite verses in the whole Bible and you can claim them too. 1 John 5:10-13 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. If you have Jesus in you, eternal life is a free gift and you can know it right here and now. Why don’t you tell God in your own word, right now, that you are going to put your trust in his Son, Jesus and claim this promise for your own? Jesus said, John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. Have a great day and I expect to see you in the future life, CDBJ |

You are constantly trying to move everything into the feminine gender, do you suppose it could apply to these verses as well? Proverbs 6:12-19 A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth. 13He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers; 14Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord. 15Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy. 16These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. |

Hi Hank, Some perverted skeptic was trying to explain away the crossing of the Red Sea by the Israelites. The claimed that, according to what scientific geologists have discovered, that the Red Sea where the Israelites crossed was only a foot to a foot and a half deep at most! I said you mean the water was only 18” deep at most; they said that right. I said well then, that miracle was more fantastic then I originally thought. They said, and how is that! I said to think that God could drowned all of those Egyptians and their horses in only 18” of water is incredible! CDBJ |

What Scriptures are you basing this on since this is a Bible study forum and not a geological debate. Don’t you suppose God can use any means that He sees fit to accomplish His will and purpose? I think that what you are saying actually makes it that much more awesome and all the more reason to fear God and believe that what He say, He will do. The word brimstone comes to us from the Hebrew word GOPHRYTH, which carries the following meaning. Probably feminine of Hebrew 1613 (gopher); properly cypress-resin; by analogy sulphur (as equally inflammable) :- brimstone. Think how awful the lake of fire is going to be for those that don’t put all of the faith and trust in God’s Son for eternal life! Rev. 20:11-15 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. In answer to your last statement, “I think God gave us a brain not just a scripture to use in questions such as these.” The Scripture has somewhat to say on the brain issue also. 1 Cor. 1:17-21 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. 18For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 20Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. Have a nice day, CDBJ |
