34061 | Questions on Luke 8:16-25 | Luke 8:18 | wist ye not | 5473
Are there any comments on this daily devotional? WEDNESDAY, May 16 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Luke 8:16-25. Therefore consider carefully how you listen. In this passage from Luke, Jesus tells his disciples to "put the light on the stand, so that those who come in can see the light." The light that Jesus speaks of is the word of God. He wants to make sure that everyone can see it by igniting the light inside each of His disciples. Jesus knows that He will not always be on earth to tell His disciples what to do. He wants them to listen carefully to what he says. Jesus knows that they must hear not only for themselves, but for others. Jesus wants us to be like his disciples and place our light on a stand for everyone to see. He wants us to share the word of God with everyone. He wants us to listen carefully to His teachings so we can share the word of God the way God intended us to share it. How can you place your light on a stand? In what ways can you better listen and understand God's word? How can you help light someone else's fire? When you talk with others, consider what you are saying. Will it help their light shine brighter? 34062 | Have you built your ark yet? | Gen 6:14 | Hank | 5460
From this verse, Genesis 6:14, and this verse alone, isn't it perfectly clear that God expects each one of us to build an ark? Some doctrines have been based on little more than a random verse, so why shouldn't we stock up on gopher wood and start building? --Hank

A friend of mine mentioned a phrase that she thought came from the Bible. I have not been able to find it to day, thought I'd see if you know if it is indeed a phrase from the Bible. The phrase is....wise as a serpent and gentle as a dove. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

34069 | Why Daniel 9:24-27? | Daniel | Mike Hammer | 5383
Most conservative protestant churchs use parts of Daniel 9:24-27 to support their belief that at some unknown time the saints will be raptured and then a seven year period will set in and the anitchrist will arise. As these text are prophecies about the first coming of Christ, what rule of Bible interpertation allows them to be used to identify the antichrist? And please don't say it is a "dual" prophecy. Because if that is the case then all 350 prophecies in the Bible that reference Christ would there also reference the antichrist, and we know no one wants to go there.

34075 | Do the Old and New Testaments Agree? | Bible general Archive 1 | Questioner | 5328
The Old Testament makes certain statements that are changed in the New Testament. God FORBADE us to eat of the meat of swine citing that it was damned. Yet the New Testament says God changed his mind and now we can eat everything as it is all good. I have never known GOD to retract any law he gave to us so I have a problem understanding this among other things. Please explain so that I too can understand. |

34076 | How was the identity known by Peter? | Deut 29:29 | Hoover | 5311
In Matthew 17 on the Transfiguration on the Mount, how did Peter KNOW that it was Moses and Elijah that appeared with Jesus?? Think of when they lived, the time difference. It's not like Peter had ever seen them before. So HOW did he KNOW??
34077 | Were Eve's desires sinful? | Gen 3:6 | Lionstrong | 5305
These thoughts stem from our discussion of the temptation of Christ, Heb 4:15. Eve's desires were not sinful. At this point she (like Christ) wasn't a sinner. Satan tricked her into fulfilling legitimate desires illegitimately. I've heard preachers site 1 John 2:16 (For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.) This verse is misapplied to Eve. She was tricked into sinnig, but were her desires the sin? What sin broght the curse on mankind? "Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?" "Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat from it'; Cursed..." What, then, was her sin? "(From)...the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die." Yes, the sin began in her heart, but was her sin her desires or was it saying yes to an illegitimate way of fulfilling legitimate desires? Your thoughts and comments welcome. Lionstrong |

34079 | What is meant by this passage? | James 4:5 | bleavell | 5284
This question is for the translators. With the lack of any comma in the phrase, it can easily be misinterpreted to suggest that God made the Holy Spirit, thus the Holy Spirit is not God. I understand that James' Greek was very cumbersome and not at all smooth. Can you provide a simpler explanation of what James was saying in this passage? Why not put a comma after Spirit and before which? What does he jealously desire the Spirit to do?
34080 | How much does salvation cost us? | Matt 13:46 | Lionstrong | 5282
How much does salvation cost us? Nothing and everthing. Mark 10:45 "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." Only the sacrifice of the sinless, Son of God could ransom us from our enslavement to sin, from our debt to the righteous law of God. Any attempt to pay the debt we owe only cheapens the the blood of Christ and insults the total sufficiency of His finished work on the cross. Salvation costs us nothing. Christ's ransom fully satisfied the justice of God. Phil 3:8 More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, I disagree that "Christianity is not a religion; it is a relationship." Our religion IS a relationship, God reconciled to man through Christ. And as we realize the value of this great pearl, we give up all as rubbish and suffer its loss to gain more of the value of this new relationship. Lionstrong |
