261 | Holy Spirit, holy spirit, or both? | 1 Corinthians | Ray | 48849
Hi Jeff12, Are you two speaking of the same Person? What do you think we have to know about it? From the heart,Ray |

262 | NKJ, NASB, and varied manuscripts. | 1 Cor 2:10 | Ray | 146920
The post of reference for this question is EdB's #146900. We have been discussing 1 Cor 2:10 with the expectation of it having four words of Deity in it. He has suggested, and I think with merit, this reading of the verse. "For to us God revealed them through His Spirit; for the *spirit searches all things, even the depths of God." We welcome comments. From the heart, Ray |

263 | Things of faith; are they understood? | 1 Cor 2:12 | Ray | 106977
Luke 2:51 says, "And He went down with them, and came to Nazareth; and He continued in subjection to them; and His mother treasured all these things in her heart." This verse in 1 Corinthians talks of "the things freely given to us by God." I have looked at the comparison of Luke 2:4-12 and 1 Corinthians 2:48-51 in a personal study. What can we learn together about the "things" of God from comparing these passages? From the heart, Ray |

264 | Receiving and accepting spiritual things | 1 Cor 2:14 | Ray | 60233
The NKJ in lieu of "accept" the things of the Spirit of God, reads, "But the natural man does not RECEIVE the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." By using the word receive, it suggests to me, referring back to verse 12, where it talks about receiving not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit [spirit] from God. For verses 12 and 14 I have penciled in my personal copy "spirit" for both verses. I do this because I believe that they are talking about the gift rather than the Giver. This goes along with my belief that we are to be filled with the "holy spirit"; but we are indwelt by God Himself at conversion. The Spirit Himself came upon Jesus but Jesus also was filled with the holy spirit. From the heart, Ray |

265 | Why five words? part 2 | 1 Cor 4:16 | Ray | 1937
1 Cor 4:16 "I exhort you therefore, be imitators of me....v.18"Now some have become arrogant, as though I were not coming to you. But I will come to you soon, if the Lord wills, and I shall find out, not the words of those who are arrogant, but their power. For the kingdom of God does not consist in word, but in power. What are the five words of power between this verse and 1 Cor 6:16? |
||||||
266 | Five words of power. Part three | 1 Cor 4:16 | Ray | 49997
Five key words. Which verses have the key word? What is the key word? Any interest at all here? Does anyone know what I had been talking about? From the heart, Ray |

267 | Can one have the Spirit of God? | 1 Cor 7:40 | Ray | 108474
I personally like to distinguish between the gift and the Giver; the spirit and the Spirit. Looking at 1 Cor 7:40, would you be willing to think of Paul as having the "spirit [sic] of God"? From the heart, Ray |
||||||
268 | Do you believe in "Me, the only God?" | 1 Cor 8:5 | Ray | 131085
Hi pcdarcan, You wrote that "the Bible does say that there are "other gods", however there is only 'one true God' and from that true God's perspective, there is not another true "God" (or 'there is not another me, God')." As a capitalizer of Deity, I would capitalize "Me". Would you find anything wrong with capitalizing that pronoun, if only in your mind? For afterall, the "me, God" is talking about Jehovah in Isaiah 45:5. From the heart, Ray |
||||||
269 | No other God besides Me? | 1 Cor 8:5 | Ray | 134889
Are there any other verses besides Isaiah 45:21 that reads, "there is no other God besides Me". Or as the KJ reads, "there is no God else besides me". From the heart, Ray |

270 | Given what to drink?Made to drink of? | 1 Cor 12:13 | Ray | 132916
Reference #132878 Hi Tim, What version were you quoting for 1 Corinthians 12:13? I am wondering about "and we were all given the one Spirit to drink". What are we to drink? King James, "and have been all made to drink into one Spirit". NKJ, "and have all been made to drink into [NU omits into] one Spirit." NASB, "and we were made to drink of one Spirit." From the heart, Ray |
||||||
271 | Why five words? | 1 Cor 14:19 | Ray | 1859
Why the choice of the number five in I Corinthians 14:19? "I thank God, I speak in tongues more than you all; however, in the church I desire to speak five words with my mind, that I may instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue."
272 | Have we been resisting the holy spirit? | 1 Cor 14:22 | Ray | 51389
Have we been resisting the holy spirit? Hi leolipwee, I have noticed that you speak of the Holy Spirit as "it" occasionally. When I speak of "it" I speak of the holy spirit for it is then thought of as a gift, a promise, a power that we have from God. Do you see what I mean and do you agree? I believe that there is the third Person of the Trinity and there is the holy spirit that is the gift that we have been given and with which we can be filled. For instance Acts 1:8, "...but you shall receive power [baptized with the holy spirit, verse 5] when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be (My) witnesses..." I believe that the Spirit descended upon Jesus in Matthew 3:16 and Mark 1:10. But He is a Person who baptized in the holy spirit rather than in water. It is because of the witness of the Spirit that we know Jesus as God. We know Him as the Beloved Son. I believe that we are filled with the holy spirit [sic] in all of the occurances in the Scriptures. Go through the 8-11 times that the filling occurs and see if a Person is spoken of. So I believe that we are filled with the holy spirit, or at least should be as Christians, and capable of speaking boldly the word of the Lord. For it is not we who speak, but it is the Holy Spirit. See Mark 13:11 and Luke 12:12, "for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say." When I talk about the holy spirit it is a new way to "not look at God", in a sense. Just as I want people to look at the Man instead of the man, Jesus Christ; I want you to consider also looking at the holy spirit instead of the Holy Spirit in some portions of Scripture. I would make holy spirit lower case in all the occurances of being filled. Acts 2:4; 4:8; 4:31; 9:17; 13:9; Luke 1:15; 1:41; l:67. I would appreciate anyone's comments. Could it be that we have been resisting the holy spirit? Acts 7:51, "You men who are stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears are always resisting the *Holy *Spirit; you are doing just as your fathers did." From the heart, Ray |

273 | What were, are, they filled with? | 2 Corinthians | Ray | 83643
I don't know if Ezekiel is still posting on the forum, so I will ask this of everybody. He has written of the coming of the spirit, the filling of the Holy spirit [sic], received the holy spirit, and filled with the spirit. Others have spoken of the filling of the Holy Spirit, receiving the Holy Spirit, filled with the Spirit. How do we understand the spirit or Spirit? What do people feel that they are filled with when they speak in tongues? Who or what gives them "utterance"? Acts 2:4 Who or what gives them the ability to speak out? Could we see spirit AND Spirit in Acts 2:4? From the heart, Ray |

274 | In simplicity and sincerity of God? | 2 Cor 1:12 | Ray | 57936
There are three godly things spoken of in 2 Corinthians. 1:12, "godly sincerity; 7:11, "godly sorrow"; and 11:2 "godly jealousy". I would like to hear what people think about these things. Would you be open to making the phrases "Godly"? This is a question of capitalization. From the heart, Ray |

275 | Lord God, Lord Jesus, Lord Spirit? Amen | 2 Cor 3:18 | Ray | 58065
Here is a literal translation from an "Interlinear Greek-English New Testament", Jay P. Green, Editor. 2 Corinthians 3:18, "But we all with unveiled face beholding in a mirror the glory of (the) Lord are being changed (into) the same image from glory to glory, as from (the) Lord Spirit." Could I hear from a person knowledgeable in Greek concerning this verse about the Lord Spirit? From the heart, Ray |

276 | Stone or stone? Him or it? | 2 Cor 4:1 | Ray | 138894
1 Peter 2:6 quotes Isaiah 28:16, "Therefore thus say the Lord God, 'Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in [it] will not be disturbed.'" The marginal note in the NASB has for the word disturbed [Lit. in a hurry]. The NKJ for the last sentence reads, "...Whoever believes will not act hastily." Question: The Greek for 1 Peter 2:6 has the word "kataischuno", Strong's #2617, from 2596 and 153; to put to shame, to disgrace. Are disbelievers ashamed of "it" or "Him"? Are they disobedient to the "word" or to the "Word"? From the heart, Ray |

277 | Considering the "senses" | 2 Cor 4:18 | Ray | 148227
In praying to God in the early morning hours of this morning, I thanked Him for my five senses; sight, touch, hearing, smell, and taste. I also thought of other common senses known to man; sense of worth, sense of accomplishment, sense of humor. What sense and Scripture come to your mind when considering these things? From the heart, Ray |

278 | John 1:18-1 Cor 15:23,24 comparison | 2 Cor 5:8 | Ray | 123962
Hi janpangilinan, I would be interested in looking at John 1:18 and 1 Cor 15:24 with you. Have you discussed those verses together anywhere on the forum? From the heart, Ray |

279 | Holy Spirit, or holy spirit; a spirit of | 2 Cor 6:6 | Ray | 103214
For the listing found in 2 Corinthians 6:3-7, what would be the reasoning for including Deity, the Holy Spirit? Does it not make more sense if left in lower case, holy spirit? From the heart, Ray |

280 | Are consistent renderings possible? | 2 Cor 11:31 | Ray | 104100
I have a question for Morant61 or any Greek student out there. I am considering 2 Cor 11:31 and Romans 9:5 where the Greek is translated "He who is" or "who is". 1) What are some other Scriptures with this rendering that we can look at to compare? 2) Can we be consistent in our renderings? 3) Can a consistent rendering help us to decide which manuscript to follow in a particular case? For instance, 2 Cor 11:31, NASB, does not include the word "Christ". 2 Cor 11:31, NASB, "The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, He who is blessed forever, knows that I am not lying." 2 Cor 11:31, NKJ, "The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is blessed forever, knows that I am not lying." Romans 9:5, NASB, "...who is over all,..." Romans 9:5, NKJ, "...who is over all,..." From the heart, Ray |
