NASB | 1 Samuel 4:3 When the people came into the camp, the elders of Israel said, "Why has the LORD defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us take to ourselves from Shiloh the ark of the covenant of the LORD, that it may come among us and deliver us from the power of our enemies." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Samuel 4:3 When the people (soldiers) came into the camp, the elders of Israel said, "Why has the LORD defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD here from Shiloh, so that He may come among us and save us from the hand of our enemies." |
Bible Question: The outcome of this advice was disastrous for Israel as we read in vv. 10-11 that Israel was once again defeated and the Ark of the LORD was captured. What was wrong with their thinking and what might illustrate that this misunderstanding of God still persists? |
Bible Answer: Eli the chief priest had two sons that sinned and Eli turned a blind eye to their sin. Read the first 3 chapter of 1 Samuel and you will understand. Also note what God said and what man decided to do on their own. You will see the answer. |
