AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Samuel 16:19 So Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, "Send me David your son, who is with the flock." |
Bible Question: When Saul meets David at the time that David kills Goliath (1 Sam. 17) why doesn't he already know him (1 Sam. 16:19-23) and if David was living with Saul (1 Sam. 16:19-23) then why was he living with Jesse in the very next few verses (1 Sam. 17:1ff)? |
Bible Answer: As for the first question, the most likely answer is that Saul simply forgot who David was and/or his father's name. (Just because Saul referred to David as "youth" and "young man" doesn't necessarily mean that he didn't know who he was) Saul was, after all, a king, and as such I'm sure dealt with countless people every day. As for the second question; It is answered in 1 Sam 17:15 - "but David went back and forth from Saul to tend his father's flock at Bethlehem." |
