Bible Question:
We may dedicate (or baptize) babies, and maybe even very young children. However, if the parent(s) become a Christian and their child, let's say school age child, has not ... does the church FAIL to dedicate (or baptize) to the Lord? For me it would be important, because both the parent(s) and the church make the covenant to teach the child about Him as well as other things. This is other question we need to ask our leadership, too. Searcher |
Bible Answer: Searcher: Even with children who both parents being genuinely born again Christians, dedication of a child there is so much more. Reguardless of how a child was raised, each person must of their own free will surrender to Christ Jesus. The parents do their best, and when a child matures then they live their own values. When every person goes into being a mature adult and chooses what teaching their parents taught, that they will call their own. We all have the choice to surrender to or reject Christ. Nothing is more painful than to have a adult child living without Christ. What pain parents endure whenan adult child has rejected jesus Christ is unspeakable. There is no age limit we can dedicate our families and long as they are still children. Perhaps an oppertunity for family redidication would start a new awakening of what family really means would be a good conclusion to a series of sermons? As for baptising infants, this is especially so in the Roman Catholic church, infants are (sprinkled) baptised into salvation by the church. Which according to scripture is not possible. I personally have a huge problem with baptising infants, with the intention of securing their salvation. That is unbiblical, and it is not just a dedication that the parents believe is taking place. That kind of infant baptism is contrary to everything Scripture teaches. I am convienced more than ever, that the baptism of Christ was by immersion. Scripture records Jesus came out of the water, and that would be rather inaccurate to discribe sprinkling. That is just my thoughts on Baptism. Blessings. justme |
