Bible Question: If you are a Christian and are deliberately sinning and have no intention of giving up the sin; can you confess and ask for forgiveness and expect to be forgiven and ok? |
Bible Answer: Dear Helen, As I write this -- to the third time you have asked this question -- we will continually be praying that the Holy Spirit will also continue to stir your conscience and draw you to the point where you can enjoy the blessing of a clear conscience concerning this sin. Repeating the question must mean that He is, indeed, continuing to deal with you. Unfortunately, the Scripture gives the same answers no matter how many times you ask them. Sin is a serious problem. It is contrary to God's explicit will (Numbers 14:18); it is a violation of God's law (1 John 3:4); it is rebellion against God's rule (Isaiah 30:1); it is an imprisonment away from God (Proverbs 5:22); it separates the sinner from God (Isaiah 59:2); it warrants God's wrath (Romans 4:15; 6:23). I could go on and on. One of the essential evidences of salvation is obedience, Christ even says that it is the way our love of Him is shown (John 14:21). Indeed, the Scriptures even tell us that those who make a practice of sin are not even saved (1 John 3:9)! Believers hear Christ's voice and follow Him (John 10:27); lost people love their sin (Romans 1:19ff). Consequently, you are in grave danger. If you are unsaved, then you are a heartbeat away from dying in your sin to face judgment before a Holy God (John 8:21). If you are saved, then you are will face discipline by the Father (Hebrews 12:6). Choosing to embrace your sin has enormous and dire consequences. The Holy Spirit has brought you to this point in which your conscience is stirred. That is clear. You may not have much time; indeed, you have less time than the last two times you asked this question. Quickly! Call out for mercy to the only One who can help you (Psalm 102). In Him, Doc |
