Bible Question:
Ephesians 6:10-18 NASB Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. ... Question: I'm in 100 percent agreement in putting on the full armor of God, however, I would like to know if I am correct in thinking the armour, once put on should never been taken off. Ie, when going to bed at night we do not take the armour off then put it on again in the morning. The forces of wickedness can also operate while one is sleeping. |
Bible Answer: Since you do not literally put on armor, there is no need to take anything off at night. Any good soldier is always prepared for battle. Gideon's army was picked by how alert they stayed while doing a simple task of drinking water. No, I don't sleep with my Bible under my pillow, yes it is next to my bed, not so I can jump up and slash the devil with it, but because it is closest place for me to sit it when I'm done reading. We are encouraged to hide the Word of God in our heart. The Bible encourages us to be prepared, that Satan is roaming around, yet we are also told that the Lord has overcome Satan. A prayer that I learned as a child still brings peace to me today, "now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep". Knowing my soul is in His hands I have nothing to fear, awake or sleeping. When struggles and fears come, one is prepared to deal with them by having the armor of the Lord fully on. Brad |
