Bible Question: In what chapter did JESUS decend to hell to preach the gospital to the less fortunite, who never heard the WORD? |
Bible Answer: Greetings and welcome to the forum. I’m note quite sure if this is what you are looking for but you are a we bit off track thinking that one has a second chance after the die to respond to the gospel message. There is a verse that backs this up in the gospel of John. John 3:18 (NKJV) 18 He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Your next question might be, but what if they haven’t heard of Jesus. The book of John tells us that this is the responsibility of the Holy Spirit. John 16:8-10 (NKJV) 8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; John 3:36 (NKJV) 36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him." Now the verses that you might be referring to is found in the following. 1 Peter 3:18-20 (NKJV) 18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 19 by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, 20 who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. The spirits here are those referred to in Genesis called in the Hebrew the "Nephilim" (or "giants") which were half human and half angelic. This is explained in Jude. Jude 1:6-7 (NKJV) 6 And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; 7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. These were the spirits that tried to stop the promise of God which was that He would send the seed of the woman who would be the Messiah. Messiah would crush Satan’s head and provide our so great salvation which was the gift from God to all those that would trust in the work He would do. Romans 6:23 (NKJV) 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. I hope I haven’t confused you and that you enjoy the forum, CDBJ |
