Bible Question:
Dear Forum members, Does any body know what Christians are allowed to present in prisons? Are they allowed to preach the gospel, is there a restriction not to proselityze openly or something? I have a reason for this but I can't get into it here... God Bless Tam |
Bible Answer: My father and brother were involved in Prison Ministry for many years. And like John says it does depend on which state or Federal status to which you're referring. In their case, they could preach about Christianity in general but they had to avoid denominational issues but they did give out Bibles. When prisoners graduated to a special trustee status, sometimes they were allowed to carry on a private conversation with the "ministers" and get more information. Quite often they would become christians and get out of prison and become a member of my dad's and brother's congregation. Or they might go home and place membership there. The bottom line: One must read carefully the guidelines of the Prison and follow them as closely as possible. God bless you in this new miistry. We'll be praying for your efforts.
