Bible Question: questions for kids about jonhan and the whale |
Bible Answer: Dear sajackson, First, the Bible does not say it was a whale that swallowed Jonah. It was a BIG FISH. One important thing we need to set a good example for children is that we should not speculate or imagine too much on the scripture outside of its context. The main theme of the book of Jonah is not about Jonah and the big fish as most bible story books for children portray it like a fairy tale. It is about God's mercy and His saving grace in contrast to human's self-righteousness or unloving human heart (i.e. Jonah). See how the book ends with God's words in the last chapter. You first have to understand what is the message in the book of Jonah before you can rightly develop questions for kids biblically. Study the book for yourself first.
