Subject: Scripture search for employment. |
Bible Note: Dear LiveLong.LiveStrong, Welcome to the forum! There are no Scriptures that gives job-search advice that I'm aware of, and I do not wish to dampen your enthusiasm for prayer. And I hope you don’t take this wrong or take offense at this admonition. From time-to-time here at the SBF, we sometimes have special prayer requests, and there is nothing inherently wrong with that. And there are many websites set up for making such prayer requests, But Study Bible Forum, however, is set up for the express purpose of Bible study. Notwithstanding, what you have done is take Scripture out of context to support prayer requests. This practice is common to those who follow the “Word of Faith” or WOF crowd, and it is a false teaching. For instance: Mark 11:24 speaks of prayer for the things which concern the revealed will of God, and Scripture gives us many such examples. Many of which can be read at the beginning of Paul’s epistles, i.e. the revelation and advancement of the Gospel of salvation, glory for His name, the salvation of sinners, edification of the saints, comfort in affliction, strength in our faith and that of our brethren, deliverance from evil, spiritual help for holy living and sanctification to that end, faith in our hope in the life to come, etc, etc. When we pray we should follow the example of Christ and the Apostles. The prayers which we see in scripture (and the Scriptures themselves) never encourage us to pray for our worldly desires. I’m not saying of course that anyone here doesn’t want someone to find a job or that they shouldn’t pray for God’s divine intervention. But may I suggest that perhaps a better suggestion would be to say a prayer for wisdom, then find a newspaper and start looking through the help wanted adds? By the way, that posted question you responded to was from back in 11/3/07 and that user never posted anything else, so I doubt you will hear anything back. Shalom John |
