Bible Question: In Luke 12:33, Jesus said to sell what we have and give alms. Does anyone know the meaning of this? |
Bible Answer: Hello flyman172 2Cor.8:9-15 9--- For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. Jesus gave up all for us. His example to us as to what it takes for someone to be perfect. But we can not be perfect. That is why Jesus had to come to save us. Matt.19:20,21 20--- The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? 21--- Jesus said unto him, (If thou wilt be perfect,) go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. Some people might call his remarks sarcasm, while others would be saying that Jesus was proving to us. He was the only person EVER to be perfect in ALL aspects of his life. Acts 5 1--- But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2--- And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. 3--- But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4--- Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. 5--- And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. 6--- And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him. 7And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. 8--- And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much. 9--- Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. 10--- Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. This story about Ananias and Sapphira is showing us. "WE" are not told by Jesus to GIVE UP ALL of our posessions! Everything God has given to you you are having the power over. It is the Heart in our giving that he cares the most about. Ananias and Sapphira had a wrong heart. They wanted to get praised by other people for giving so much. We only need to be willin to give everything we have if He GOD asks for it. If God does ask for everything you have you are most assuridly going to know. It will be in your heart. You will not question weather you should give all or not you will just do it. This is more important to God than all of your posessions. Proverbs 21:3 To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice. John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Now going back to 2 Cor. 8:9-15 These verses are concerning giving to brothers. But you can see how the giving was being done by the church people. 10--- And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago. 11--- Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have. 12--- For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not. 13--- For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened: 14--- But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality: 15--- As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack. Everything we are being told to us by Jesus is easy to be intreated. Do not complicate things for yourself. Loving you in Jesus KcabmI4 |
