Bible Question: What is purgatory and is it mentioned in the Bible? If so what chapters and scriptures? |
Bible Answer: Dear Forever: The term 'purgatory' derives from a Latin root word meaning 'to purge' and is defined as being an intermediate state after death for expiatory purification. According to Roman Catholic doctrine, purgatory is a place or state of punishment wherein the souls of those who die in God's grace may make satisfaction for past sins and so become fit for heaven. The term 'purgatory' does not appear in Scripture. But Hebrews 9:27 does. --Hank |
