Bible Question: Since Jesus didn't die for our sins til the New Testament, How did the people of the Old Testament go to heaven? Since all have sinned... Example was it possible that Adam and Eve to go to heaven? |
Bible Answer: Hi Lily75 and welcome to the Bible forum. The fact that Jesus died for our sin doesn’t guarantee anyone their salvation. 1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. Jesus satisfies the righteousness demands that God requires for sin alright but “it isn’t” credited to our account until we “rely on and fully trust in” God’s appointed one, i.e. the Messiah. There are millions of “so called Christians” that are depending on their useless, assumed, good works to get them to heaven instead of the “finished work” that Jesus performed on the cross and they will be very shocked when they find themselves in a place in Hell because they didn’t put all of their faith in Christ. Ephes. 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast. Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; The following promise is given to those that are totally trusting in Jesus God unique Son. Ephes. 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 1 John 5:10-13 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. Those of the Old Testament were saved the same exact way we are saved today, after the New Testament, we just have the privilege of knowing the Messiah’s name; Jesus. They looked forward to the coming Messiah and we look back. I hope you enjoy the forum, CDBJ |
