Bible Question: What is the difference between a christian and a Jehovahs witness. |
Bible Answer: The difference between a Christian and a Jehovah's Witness is our belief system. I'll give you three examples and will be quoting from two different bibles. The King James Bible, which most christians are familiar with, and the New World Translation, which is the Jehovah's Witnesses Bible. Since all things started with Christ, so will I. John 1:1 (KJV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. This verse is believed by many as saying that Jesus Christ, the Word, IS God. The (NWT) quotes this verse as such: John 1:1 (NWT) In the beginning the Word was and the Word was with God, and the Word is a god. Now notice, 'a god'. Jesus Christ isn't The God, but he's a god. A big difference. One of my biggest questions has always been, “If Jesus is the Word of God, and is a god, does that make him a true god of a false god?” If he is a true god, then Jehovah was mistaken because in Isaiah 43:10 he says, Isa. 43:10 (NWT) 'You are my witnesses', declares the Lord, 'and my servant whom I have chosen, In order that you may know and believe me, and understand that I am He. Before me there was no God and there will be none after me. Howerver; if Jesus is a false god, and he is the Word of God....they have a name for people who say things that are not true. Another example of the differences of belief can be seen in Colossians 1:16-17 Colossians 1:16-17 (KJV) For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him and for him 17) And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. In short order, Christ created ALL THINGS; EVERYTHING; across the board, and it is because of him that all things holds together. Colossians 1:16-17 (NWT) because by means of him all [other] things were created in the heavens and upon the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, no matter whether they are thrones or lordship or governments or authorities All [other] things have been created through him and for him, 17 Also, he is before all [other] things and by means of him all [other] things were made to exist. Now please note that in this verse, Christ didn't create all things, he created all other things. The important thing to notice is that the word other has brackets around it. Why?? Because in 1961 The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society lost a court case on this verse. According to the ruling of that case, any word added to the bible that is not in the original text must have brackets around it. The word 'other' is not in the original document. The word 'other' added four different times to this verse changes the meaning of this verse. Christ did not create all 'other' things, he created EVERYTHING. At least most Christians believe that. I'm one of them. So you see, there many difference between our belief systems. Most Christians believe that the Jehovah Witnesses are a cult, and the Jehovah Witnesses believe that when Christians pray, we pray to the devil. Try asking a Jehovah Witness if you can pray for them. |
