Bible Question (short): able destroy both soul and body in hell? |
Question (full): Hello Tess, Please explain this verse: Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (NKJV) 28 And be not afraid of those killing the body, and are not able to kill the soul, but fear rather Him who is able both soul and body to destroy in gehenna.(Young's Literal Translation) I think that most Christians think of hell (or hades) together with the "Lake of Fire" (gehenna) as a place of torment for the immortal soul. If there is no immortal soul, then Jesus' statement here seems meaningless, doesn't it? I do not know if this is a natural or physical "fire" that torments the soul, but the word "fire" is used to describe the source of the torment. I noted in your profile that you do not want to argue. I do not wish to offend you by this question. Pastor Glenn |
