Bible Question: who is the pharisees |
Bible Answer: Greetings LSmith, Their were two groups of religous leaders in Jesus' time - The Pharisee's and the Saducee's. The Pharisee's were noted most for their exact observance of the Jewish religion, their acurate exposition of the law, and the handing down of the extrabiblical customs and traditions. The Pharisee's believed in strict adherence to the law. They held a moderate position with regard to the interplay of fate and free will. They believed in the coming resurrection and in angels. The beliefs of the Pharisee's prevailed among the common people. They also believed in immortality. The Saducee's on the other hand were the ones who held the political power. They were usually wealthy arisacats. They accepted only the written "Torah" and rejected the oral interpretation of the Torah accepted by the Pharisee's. The obeyed only the literal interpretation of the written law. They rejected the doctrine of the future resurrection, did not believe in angels and spirits and denied immotality. They also did not believe in fate but believed that everything happened because of man's free will. Hope this helps to clarify. prayon |
