Bible Question: Hello all. First off, I wanted to thank the members who answered my question about maturbation. Hank, I did indeed search the word and found many posts. I have now given up the act in order to further perfect my life. Although, I have another question that I need an answer to badly. Okay, I feel that maybe I am just trying to lead a Christian life JUST IN CASE there is a real God and just in case Jesus did die for us. I want to overcome this and ultimately believe in Him fully and have no doubts, but I don't know how. Is this normal? Also, if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. |
Bible Answer: Hi, ripken8os! There are indeed people who believe that if they feign believing in God it is just as valid as a true believer. Hebrews 11 is an excellent start for anyone who wants to find out about Faith: Only faith can guarantee the blessings that we hope for, or prove the existence of realities that are unseen. (Hebrews 11:1) I suggest that you read the complete chapter! In the Gospel of John, Jesus simplified it: Do not let your hearts be troubled. You trust in God, trust also in me. (John 14:1) We are all called by our Heavenly Father, but not all listen. When we listen we are compelled to search out Christ, as we learn from His Word the Holy Spirit instructs and guide us; as we allow the Holy Spirit to govern our will Faith is established!: But it is in that way faith comes, from hearing, and that means hearing the word of Christ. (Romans 10:17) Now, in Biblical tems hearing does not simply mean listening or hearing people talk/preach about Christ... it means living the Word of God: But you must do what the Word tells you and not just listen to it and deceive yourselves. (James 1:22) Jesus was more exacting, He said it this way: 'Why do you call me, "Lord, Lord" and not do what I say? (John 6:42) Begin your journey by acquiring a Bible, if you do not yet own one. Read the Gosples (John, Matthew, Luke and Mark--this is my own personal reading order) and Hebrews... then work your way through the rest of the Bible--reading twice as much in the New Testament as you do the Old Testament. You can use the Psalms as special prayer to begin or close your Bible study session. Get involved with your congregation--seeking those who are willing to assist you in your learning process. Be truthfull--God is not fooled by our empty hearts and devotions: Don't delude yourself: God is not to be fooled; whatever someone sows, that is what he will reap. If his sowing is in the field of self-indulgence, then his harvest from it will be corruption; if his sowing is in the Spirit, then his harvest from the Spirit will be eternal life. (Galatians 6:7-8) Jesus said it a little different, but way more austerely: I know about your activities; how you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were one or the other, but since you are neither hot nor cold, but only lukewarm, I will spit you out of my mouth. (Revelation 3:15-16) Believing "just in case" is as empty as saying: "I believe!"--yet not subjecting ourselves to the Lord's Will! Faith is given to us by the Father, in Jesus, through the Holy Spirit... but we must be active participants: that is, we cannot just join a group/congregation and expect salvation to be gained automatically: Simon Peter, sevant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received a faith as precious as our own, given through the saving justice of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ. Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of our Lord. By his divine power, he has lavished on us all the things we need for life and for true devotion, through the knowledge of him who has called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these, the greatest and priceless promises have been lavished on us, that through them you should share the divine nature and escape the corruption rife in the world through disordered passion. With this in view, do your outmost to support your faith with goodness, goodness with understanding, understanding with self-control, self-control with perseverance, perseverance with devotion, devotion with kindness to the brothers, and kindess to the brothers with love. The possession and growth of these qualities will prevent your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ from being ineffectual or unproductive. But without them, a person is blind or short-sighted, forgetting how the sins of the past were washed away. (2 Peter 1:1-9) Believe in God! Start that precious journey with your Bible, today! God Bless! Angel |
