Bible Question:
Please read Judges 6:36-40 I know that this is OT, but as Christians today, can we be as bold as Gideon and ask God for signs? Or does the Holy Spirit take the place of the "signs" given back then, since we are to use the Holy Spirit to guide us? |
Bible Answer: Not the usual way to find God's will "Gideon was not here seeking to learn God's will, because that had already been clearly revealed to him (vv. 14,16). He put out the fleece for two reasons: (1) to strengthen the weakness of his own faith; and (2) to give him evidence that would convince the people that he was really God's instrument. This is not to be taken as the usual method for discovering God's will. See Prov. 3:5-6; Jas. 1:5-8" (Note at Judges 6:37, New Scofield Reference Bible, Oxford, 1967). NASB Judges 6:37 behold, I will put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor. If there is dew on the fleece only, and it is dry on all the ground, then I will know that You will deliver Israel through me, as You have spoken." |
