Bible Question:
Can anyone give some insight into why these types of incidents were permitted? I think also of Lot so willing to toss his daughters to the wolves. We are told often that there was respect for women and human rights in the old testament, and yet I do not see it in such scriptures. Which brings me to a second question, if allowed. How are we to differentiate between what we are told were cultural commandments (e.g. women wearing head coverings, not cutting hair, silence in the church, etc. - most of which are not largely practiced anymore - but why not?) versus true commandments of God? Thanks for helping me deal with these difficult issues. Joanne |
Bible Answer: Greetings Joanne, Those are interesting issues alright that you have suggested. But the big leading issue and one that was brought up by Jesus and found in Matthew needed to be settled with the disciples before Jesus could work with them or with us today. Matthew 16:13-16 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He began asking His disciples, saying, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" [14] And they said, "Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets." [15] He said to them, "But who do you say that I am? Once this issue is settled in ones life the other issues seem to fall right in place. So with that in mind, who do you personally say that Jesus is? Have a nice day, CDBJ |
