Bible Question: Where in the Bible can I find out about what distinguishes the Pharisee, Sadducees and Zealots from each other? |
Bible Answer: Distinctions: Pharisee- is one of the 3 sects or schools that the Jews were divided into, the other 2 were Essenes and the Sadducees. The Pharisees were separatists, they were extremely accurate in all matters appertaining to the law of Moses. Matt.9:14, 23:15, Luke 11:39, 18:12. There was much that was sound in their creed, yet their system of religion was a form and nothing more. Sadducees- denied the doctrine of the resurrection and the existence of angels. Zealots-refuse to pay tribute to the Romans, on the ground that this was a violation of the principle that God was the only king of Israel. They rebelled against the Romans, but were soon scattered, and became a lawless band of mere brigands. They were afterwards called Sicarii, from their use of the sica, i.e., the Roman dagger.
