Bible Question:
What is your view on "moment of silence"? Isn't it a subtle form of secular humanism? In a christian church for example, when there is memorial service for some well known person in the community, or a national disaster, etc, should not the pastor or leaders encourage "silent prayer" to God instead? Is there a scriptural reference for "moment of silence"? |
Bible Answer: Howie: I think I would rather have a "moment of silence" than the massive multi religious service that was held shortly after the 9 11 disaster. I had no use for the prayers of the heathen, that were mixed with those of the Christian faith. In public school when I was young (8 Years old, I am now 58) we all said hail to mary, ate fish on Fridays, and even though is was a public school, Baptist had little infulance comparied to the Catholic Church. That was wrong. I do not approve of a cult leader or others having such an infulance on developing children. What we have now is not good in the public schools, but wwhere I grew up in Californis it was not right then either. My advice is train you own children, whom we are respomsible for to God. Be involved with your childrens school and look at the books they read ,and when you find something that is wrong challenge the School and their board. any thoughts? justme |
